Trying a couple lowers from pheno #2 this morning. I went ahead and trimmed down #4 and jarred it yesterday. I’ll do #2 today probably and #1 tomorrow. So about 9 days dry. Seems these nuggier types dry a day faster in my setup than longer colas. Makes sense but doesn’t make it easy on scheduling. Why am I bitching though. What schedule do I really maintain. Time to go try this weed #2 looks and smells great. I’ll take more later. Just grabbed these to test for dryness. When things are perfectly dry it’s hard not to sample them so here we are.
Yo toes when youre drying do you stick a dehumidifier in the tent to keep rh low or what?
I know we went over this a few times haha
Those buds look fire!
Thanks! So far I would say it is potent, tasty weed! More coming later
I do have a dehumidifier in there. I use a 4x2x7 on its side. So it’s 4ft high, 7ft long and 2ft wide. Since I’m perpetual at the moment I don’t normally hang more than 3-4 plants at a time. I have the dehu at one end and a 6inch clip fan at the other end. The fan is about 1/4 of the way up from the bottom and angled down so I’m moving air under the plants. The dehu puts air out of its top. I like to think it creates a nice flow of air and no plants are ever being touched directly by a breeze. Sometimes I do notice the plant closest to the clip fan dries out a day faster than the others but it’s really not by that much. I keep rh at 55% firm. I’ve messed with going up or down but I’ve seen mold at 57% and things dry too fast at 52-53%, so 55 works for me.
How do you manage temps with the dehumidifier in there?
Im trying to plan my dry now before i get there. Usually the dehumidifier puts me in the high 70s temp wise
I leave that to the gods. Hah not a great answer, I know. I have it in a cool corner of my space and the dehu doesn’t have to run too often but temps do vary anywhere from 72-77. 70/55 is my ideal so I just haven’t seen it worth the effort to bring the temps down any more. My friend has an ac that ducts into his dry room and he does like 64-65/55% and while I do think he dries some fine herb, I don’t find it to do all that much for quality when we are both pulling things down after 9-12 days. Summer was rough for me though. I may try to figure something out to cool the whole space a bit better next year. Probably ac in the lung room and maybe a door and frame type deal to keep it all down there so it doesn’t pump to the rest of the house and waste monies. Still up in the air on that though.
Yea man thats where im at with it. After a rough ass dry in the summer with shit hitting over 80F im thinkin we have to figure something out. I would ditch the dehumidifier and go portable ac but im not too sure where ill duct the hot air. Also idk if they produce a drip like a window unit so thats another thing to figure out
He has a portable AC unit and has sort of duct taped 4 inch tubing onto it and it goes to his dry room. It does drip so he has to check it/empty it almost daily even though he has a hose connected to it. His is a few years old though so maybe a more current one would do a better job. His stuff was absolutely better than mine during the summer though. I didn’t grow anything near the same varieties though. They also have those ac units with outside units and inside units. I think rhai uses them. They seem worthwhile.
Not sure what im lookin at bro?
What does your friend do with the hot exhaust the ac produces?
Does he vent that outdoors somehow? I would love to rig up a portal ac but the exhaust part i cant figure out
My job has a fridgaire portable ac unit and it has no drip or hose system at all. I cant figure out where the moisture goes lmao. Its literally plugged into an outlet and there is an exhaust duct out the back and it blows ice cold air. I am so curious on where the moisture goes haha
He vents the hot air into his chimney. Hah that’s literally just a bare room. Not a helpful picture. I’ll get a shot of his AC when I’m there next
I got a used portable ac unit for free last summer when my job replaced theirs and i literally gave it away like dumbass. Arghhh
Thats from @GCBudz?
Im pretty sure you sent a few my way and after seeing these wolf caps grow out i believe 1 is a chem 91 leaner and the buds are .
Makes me want to get into those s1s
Yes yes. I only popped the one to get a taste. So far it smells good though. Very upright. It got new shoes the other day and I’ll toss it into flower when someone comes down in 2 weeks. So far it’s been fairly easy to keep happy. Ah. I think that chem heavy wolf cap you have should be super nice. I’m sure cap junky adds some good to it too. I’ve seen a lot of people grow those. Can’t wait to see yours at chip chop
These wolf caps are amazing i cant wait to chop the top 30% and make dry sift with all the lowers
Silly question but for dry sift do the buds have to be dried first? Or is fresh frozen dry sift a thing?
Dry sift or dry ice?
Dry Sift? Pretty much needs to be dry unless you can work in a walk-in.
Dry ice can definitely use fresh frozen. It’s pretty much the same process with the exception of letting it sit for an extra minute or so to ensure everything’s frozen. If you use fresh frozen for dry ice hash, the hash will be wet and will need to sit out at room temp for 24-48 hours or back in the freezer for 5-7 days to dry out.
I think (thoughts subject to change) that I prefer using stuff that is just dry or a day away from being dry. It seems to separate from plant matter easier but it’s a working theory.
Haha ignorance is bliss man. Dry ice sift is what i mean
Hmmm is the dry still as important as smokable buds? Will the hash suffer from a quick dried bud?
That’s a good question. I actually have no clue. I’d imagine a quick dry will hurt quality of everything, but I could be totally wrong. I think a quick dry has potential to damage trichomes and so with a physical extraction you’d get less heads overall. But that’s just a guess really. Only way to it is to do it
I’ve harvested and then had to go away and was forced to dry to to 30%
Still made fine hash. It was bubble though.
Back when i was studying the different traditional ways of making hash i was specifically interested in the harvesting and drying/curing of hash making material.
Commonalities: quick dry, some folks laid in the field and dried under open sun, some folks put in bundels of several plants and dried under a roof but open to the out side. After the trichs are collected and hash is made, the hash is then left to cure for up to a year before consumption. Some folks reportedly buried it in the ground to cure.
I do a slow cure so my flower smokers don’t complain.
Huh. I didn’t think it had been 6 days since I showed you the triple sunshine sunshine daydream gang. I will take more tomorrow.
As far as smoke goes on dried #1,2,4 -
#1 - you already know. Will update.
#2 - very ‘loud’. Very tasty and smooth. Also gorgeous. Tastes potent. Is potent. I’ll have to sit with the flavor but it is a bit sweeter than #1. Has some nice funk to it. Hard to criticize. Best I can do is that it’s lowers got a little leafy/knobby/harder to trim but they are still really nice.
#4 - very sweet, piney/honey/gas/sugar. Pretty much put me to sleep the first few times I tried it. I’ll have to get back around to this one. Heh
Round three of pheno #1
Round one of pheno #3. Starting to get a bit of a purple-y tint? 2 weeks on both these. I’ll figure out her feed next round. Smells. Hard to get a shot of a side nug because they do the knobby wrap around and make it hard to capture with the telephone
Thank you @Budderton for dropping the Knowledge. (And foreigner) I haven’t gotten around to curing any home made hash because it rarely lasts that long but I need to make a point to put some away for a while. You’ve encouraged me, my friend. You notice a definite difference in cured/uncured hash? (Assuming it was made the same way)
Yes my hash is a totally different animal after a year cure.
I’d smoke it constantly if I could keep it around.
