Loner’s DIY Octo Grow

Thanks for the input guys. It looks like the battery in my PH pen is low and tbh is old as shit. I’m just gonna grab one. I’ll update the post with my findings. Last time I had this happen I thought I had it narrowed down to nitrogen tox but now I’m starting think maybe not.

Nice DYI my friend

Keep Rez low till roots hit the Rez feed every water
Slow low and steady with the feeding schedule
The only time you water from the top is when you first transplant
How’s the ph.

I see you have more water then soil ( medium )
What that a 2 gal bag ? And a 5 gallon bucket ?

Bigger bag bigger plants

Thanks for the knowledge Papa! I’m starting to realize I went with way to small of a bag on this first setup. I will for sure be adding a larger one on my next design. My roots are almost touching the bottom of the bucket now at beginning of week 5 of veg. I’ve been keeping the water pretty low like 1 gal in the bucket. I’ve only been feeding 1/4 strength. Does this look like a deficiency or toxicity to you? I’m tempted to just flip them, see what happens and move on. I’ve got some seed stock to choose from and more on the way. I just hate that if I scrap them it ruins my perpetual for a few weeks and I hate to buy herb

If anything I would guess underfeeding based on the lightness of that new growth and the fact that you’re feeding at 25%.

Maybe try upping your nutes a bit, you could also cut the calmag back a bit so you’re still at the same overall ppm. I use calimagic at half strength, I think full might be overkill with most base nutes.

Bring the water level up definitely
Lower the amount of cal mag
See how the react

Ok so I was able to get a battery for my PH meter and got it calibrated today. Both Buckets test around 7ph!!! Way too high!! I flushed the buckets again and added fresh nutes ph’d to 6.2 and brought the water level up to about 2 inches from bottom of pots. I’m going to keep an eye on the buckets and see which way the Ph drifts and base my future ph #s for fresh nutes on that.

Tested PH when I got home today. It rose to 7ish in 24 hours. Flushed buckets again and added fresh ph’d to 5.5… I’ll check ph periodically this evening and again in the morning.

What are your guys thoughts on PH drift. I know the plants use different nutes at different PH. In soil I’ve learned that a ph drift is good. I assume it’s the same with hydro. Just gotta make sure I don’t left it drift to quickly and shock the girls

I haven’t checked the ph on my octopots and they seem to be chugging along. That was one of the things I like about them. I’ve got tables right next to the octos and On those I let the ph drift from 5.5-6.5.

How high do you keep the water level in your buckets.

Ok… I’ve got mine about 1/3 full. My DIY setup uses 5 gal buckets and the Real OCTO POTS use a shallow Rez. I’m thinking my ph issues were caused by the Rez setting for too long which caused the ph to drift up.

Yes the octos are shallower I guess but I’ve honestly never checked the ph. My water comes out 7.1-2 so maybe that’s why. Do they still seem stalled out or did the ph adjust get them goin?

Well thanks for all the input guys. I found the root of the problem and it was in fact PH. Or really me not using my head and realizing that the ph is going to come into play a lot more in these octo pots.

So I’ve got things under control and the girls are back to looking healthy again. I’ve got the ph under control between 6.3 and 6.5 ( like they recommend on the octo site) slight drift but that’s to be expected. Both bags have dried out now and I can notice a definite water consumption from both plants.

My thinking on what caused the drastic PH issue is just like @ifish recommend to the big homey @Grohio in conversation regarding my dilemma.
Big thanks to both you fellas and all who put their 2 cents in the jar.

So even longer story short… plants doing good and back in track for flip at 6 weeks with a full screen. Here’s some nuddies!!!

The following are pics of my other projects I’ve got going. Same size tent but with 315cmh vertical hood. Same nutes…

I’m glad you got it figured. Mine in octos are drinking a lot. I’ll have to check the ph also. Lol it’s not like the multi meter isn’t three feet away. Anyways the other tent is looking sweet!!!

Thanks man! They had me worried for a min… yeah i figured i would post a couple other project pics to show the folks out here that I actually do know what I’m doing. Just got a little complacent on the PH got spoiled on the soil side of things

Have you been defoliating those octo plants.

Here and there… mainly just clipping ones I can’t tuck for now.
