Medibles for senior dog?

My mom called me up today crying worried that she might have to put down her dog Happy (a sweet old bird dog) I have a bunch of trim so I told I’d tried to get her setup with an oil based tincture she can put on her dogfood/treats anyone got some ideas for me.

I make infused peanut butter for our dogs , the oldest is a little chihuahua/pomeranian/jack Russell terrier and is about 11/12 yo bad hips, teeth and has seizures. The peanut butter with infused butter or oil does the trick. She goes from hobbling around to jumping barking and playing like a puppy.

i was going to say you could try a little bit of cannabutter on a piece of bread. i’m going to stay out of this for the most part though as these threads can bring about nothing but trouble when you have people who disagree with the topic. just be careful if you’re using butter/oil/etc. anything that will get the dog high “medicated”, especially because they’ve never experienced anything like it before. if you meant cbd oil or something i misunderstood you. but there is some truth to the “She goes from hobbling around to jumping barking and playing like a puppy.” statement.

I dont have any cbd plants or trim, I’m just needing to give my mom extraction instructions and like an oz or 2 of trim. Happy is such a sweetheart, but she’s got a lot of problems from se numerological tick that makes her spin in circles uncontrollabley to bad teeth from years of neglect from her previous owner, she’s around 12 or 13.

If I were in your position I would use buds because it’s easier to dose.

I’d also start at a low lose and work from there.

I’m 200 pounds and my dog is 20 pounds. So I’d give him 10% of what I take.

So I figure 50 mg is good for me so 5-10 mg would be a good place to start.

Assume 150 mg per gram if it it’s good flower. Smoke it to gauge low medium high potency.

I usually make a batch of 30 cookies where I’d use 8g for myself but for a dog I’d start with 1G for 30 cookies and go from there. Even a 1/2 gram maybe just to start slow.

I’d also do a peanut butter/oatmeal based cookie he would like…

If my dog were in pain I might do something similar. He’s such a happy little guy it warms my cold evil heart.

Best of luck

Very good points! Truthfully I couldn’t give an accurate dosing in mg due to I’m using trim from various strains (a buddy hooks me up with some of his ) and so I usually go with decarbing about 1/2 to full ounce of trim, 2 sticks of butter for the cannabutter. With about 1/4 to 1/8th stick of said cannabutter mixed into a full normal size jars worth of peanut butter (I believe the jar size is 16oz?) Usually give the little one about a 1/2 teaspoon of the infused peanut butter. The 2 bigger dogs get a little more.

I like to do my edibles this way because it’s more repeatable, both for me and a dog.

If it works for you then more power to you. But trim can vary wildly in potency (tight trim loose trim fan leaves no fan leaves)

I turn my trim into bubble so I’m unlikely to use it in other applications.

All the best

I was agreeing with you, the consistency is definitely something to factor in. When I can get a rough mg estimate I use it but generally i go a little light on the butter at first and if needed add more.

Dosage/titration is very difficult, I’d recommend starting with human grade 20:1 CBD:THC tincture added to food, but it’s out of our hands I’m afraid. Time is a bastard.
