Midcoast Living Organics 2x4 tent Scrog run

VERY cool. You have my attention now. Air cooled I see. I’d love to see more of your fixtures!

I’m a builder, a tinkerer by nature. I would love to build custom lights and try to sell them. It looks like you have a logo there, do you sell them? I have some experience with building web sites and online marketing, etc, so I was wondering if there might be a market for custom, boutique grow lights.

I think I mentioned, that I was looking into making a side business consulting on small scale, personal, organic cannabis grows, and this could go along with that. My gears are turning now. But yeah, can you throw me a link to more about your lights?

You did indeed and there’s a few folks here that run my lights. I’ve sold a few here and there. But not exactly viable to run as a full time career for me personally. Although I’m always happy to help anyone that needs a hand. That is an air cooled fixture. “Cob cool tube” works as well as intended. Can be adjusted to suit different size area. Not trying to sell any anymore but I’ll tell you how if you wanna know

Nice run, friend! Is that a 4x4? Do you remember your yield from that one?

Very cool. I’m very interested! I probably wouldn’t have the budget to move on it for 6 months, minimum, though.

I can see how it would be very difficult to compete with the big companies. It must be fun though. I always like to have a project going.

I got into microcontrollers a few years back, and it’s been a while since I’ve done much with them, but I have a idea to do some data logging with various sensors, then move into some automation.

Random picture time. This here is a bud from a Seedsman Purple Kush CBD Auto 1:1, and it’s my most favorite plant of the ones I’ve grown so far.

My first was brought up on Megacrop and Bud Explosion in a 3G fabric bag. Second one was living Organics in a 5G. Both were small plants, yielding about 1.5oz each. I think the Temps may have been a bit too low, early on in those grows, though other strains run concurrently had done well. Both have simply stunning terps.

Here’s my boy. He likes to butt in and chomp my alfalfa.

I know from experience that with the 4 cats in this House, the fur gets all over anyway. May as well let him have his fun.
Edit- posting pictures is a little odd on this forum, I’m struggling with it a little.

There’s a few folks here that are well ahead in the quest for data logging @Northern_Loki is a genius when it comes to that side of things.
I use sonoff stuff for my automation. Cheap. Effective.

As for projects I’ve always got something going on whether it’s Canna, motorbike, wood, metalworking related you can guarantee I’m making a mess and noise somewhere. If I can help with anything just shout up mate :+1:

Sonoffs are a great option and Cola is the go to person here. He has great insight into the capabilities. Raspberry PI’s, Arduinos, sensing motes all good stuff. Depends on how deep into the hack-aday you’d want to go.

I’d say the amount of effort, time, tracking, tuning, and tweaking by us citizen scientists (as a whole) are a major force in driving agricultural innovation, research, and insights. We don’t even realize it. It may not be us doing the research papers but I can guarantee that they are looking at what we are up to…

The electronics side of thing is another one of those rabbit holes that’'ll accelerate your insight and background in both agronomy and efficiency. Incrementally piecing things together is perfectly fine, it’s what we all do. It becomes a never ending what-if … Even if the initial intent is just for reducing the amount daily labor. Occasionally, a spark of insight will drive us all into looking at new paradigms.

Jump on the train, looking forward to seeing your insights and what you build.

Thanks for the info there, and I agree on the ability of the aggregate small scale experimenting and experience to forward our understanding of horticulture, and it’s exciting to be a part of it.
I’ve never heard of sonoffs, and I have a bit of research to do, it seems. I don’t have much time these days, but I would love to get a project going in this arena. Maybe I’ll make an update soon detailing some first steps.

It might be a little early, but I switched my lighting to 12/12. There are two smaller plants that I’m trying to get a little harvest from, which should work provided I finally get some females, fit in a couple gaps.

I don’t know how much they are going to stretch. I’ve got numerous branches weaved into the scrog, pruning here and there in order to try to keep one shoot per square.

I just hanged my mind and set the timer back to 18/6. I’ve been so indecisive on this, but I’m close to filling out the scrog, and the tops are all pretty even, and I’ve increased the frequency of training and pruning sessions, and I think I’ll continue to see some good vegetative growth, so I’m going to ride that for now.

I am seeing some light and dark brown spots on both plants, I’m thinking calcium deficiency, so I’ve done a few foliar feeds and have been adding CalMag to the soil as well. I’m familiar with CalMag deficiencies in general, from running under these quantum boards - it seems to be common.

It’s one week later, and there is noticeable growth. I’ve decided (again) to flip to 12/12, and I think I’ll likely follow through this time!

The brown spotting I had been seeing has been remedied. I’ve been adding 3-5ml of calmag with soil soaking, and have foliar sprayed the same concentration 3x in the past 10 days or so. No new brown spotting that I can see.

In my previous soil mix, I did not see any calcium deficiency, but this is a different mix and different plants and in general with these lights I have been seeing a heavy demand for calcium among all of the plants that I’ve grown.

Both plants are taking well to their training, but the Herer is a little more vigorous. I’ve been watering them alternating plain water with a kelp or fish hydrolysate mix, though I do add a little silica to almost every watering.

Increased under canopy airflow has helped to keep the fungus gnats down, and I top dressed with neem meal 2 days ago.

I’ve been turning the light up a bit as well, hitting 190w currently.

It’s been almost a week, here is an update!

Thankfully, and finally, I have a female Snake Oil (Greenpoint Seeds)! The roots are definitely bound up more than I would like, but I had to wait to sex it due to the lack of space. When they are bunched up like this, I pick them out at the corners, edges, and the bottom, so they are primed to explore out into the new soil.

I up potted it into a 3G fabric bag, which is about all that I could fit in the tent -
Thankfully it fit pretty well, and in a couple of months we will finally get a taste of this “flavor bomb”.

The big girls are starting to get vertical, and I’m continuing to fill in some of the holes around the perimeter. I’m pretty happy with how it’s gone so far.

Starting to see some pistils fill in! Can’t wait to see how they develop from here.

My previous pics never showed up. I love this forum except how it handled photos, it takes me 2-3 times to get them right!

Anyway, here is some progress after flipping to flower. I’m still tucking and there’s not as much growth as I would like.

I just top dressed with neem and crab/lobster shell meals. Every watering gets either aloe or silica, and every other watering usually has fish hydrolysate or kelp added.

Foliar spraying occasionally with CalMag or magnesium, kelp, and a couple sprays of MKP for nutrients and to keep the WPM at bay (oddly, the Cheese is susceptible).

Couple more photos showing the growth.

Flower closeup.

Check out the trichomes already popping up on the Cheese.

Can anyone help me understand what I’m doing wrong posting photos? Most contemporary forums have a robust system for uploading pics, but I have a lot of trouble here.

About half the time they don’t switch from ‘Uploading’ to the photo’s URL when uploading is complete. And I can only upload one at a time? I really like this forum software otherwise - I wish they could improve the photo upload handling!
