My first Hydro Setup 🌿

The growth rate blew me away as well. I’m on my first hydro run as well.

They are looking good. I’m really to try those pots out. But I wanna do a side by side to compare with a DWC with the same strain.

Oh wow, thats frigging neat. Might have to give it a shot in the future. Any advantages over basic dwc?

Thats fancy.

I would guess its more fool proof. Less prone to issues from power outages. Less power consumption (no chillers, no air pumps)

I seriously doubt it yields as well as a properly ran DWC and I also seriously doubt the growth compares.

They look so much happier 12/17 vs 12/9

I’m a big hempy bucket proponent, but you’re 100% right.

It doesn’t match DWC in terms of yield or growth rate, not even close.

Significantly more than dirt, but significantly less than active hydro. .

But like you said, no moving parts, nothing prone to failure. Cheap/free, intuitive, easy, modular, reusable.

@vernal “Significantly more than dirt, but significantly less than active hydro. .”

that is the trade off it is so ez  but not the true yield of active Hydro

kinda you get what you pay for  eh?

all the best and be well

Pretty much. I also am a big fan of hempies, because they lend themselves well to running all different plants. I can stack short plants on buckets to raise height for even canopy. I can move plants around as I see fit. Good for guys like me that are always running different seed plants instead of the same clone over and over.

2 big disadvantages are the dependence on a neutral soilless media, and the inability to leave the house for more than a couple days without relying on someone to come water plants.

No system is perfect for all needs, though. Something always pushing, something always pulling. I do however think hempies are perfect for the needs of 95% of personal stash home growers. 1 bucket or 20. Anything bigger than a couple lights and a more automated system is probably your friend, though.

it is all about what works the best for you

but the Hempy buckets are a great way to get your feet wet

you might say

DWC is another cool way again you can be working with a single

plant so when it all goes to shit it is only one plants hopefully

the Buckets I have always wanted to do are Krusty Freedom Buckets

The Clown could grow mad weed

if we are ever legal and if I ever get to retire I would love to do some form of hydro

I would love to try NFT I saw someone growing in rain gutters

and PVC pipes and killing it

sorry @nefrella stoned at work

all the best

Yeah…DWC has a learning curve for sure. Its the only way I know how to grow though so I keep at it. RDWC is the game changer. No more pHing a dozen buckets. I have a pH doser that does it automatically. A large 18gal per plant reservoir makes it so I dont need to even go in my room besides to train plants and res changes.

My system of choice is flood and drain, i find it less problematic than hempy or dwc. 1 pump can feed all the plants and it only has to run for minutes and the roots are aired and less susceptible to rot. Airstones clog and every plant needs a couple of them and to maintain them. Flood and drain is so easy to automate, i traveled several times while keeping plants for days, last time it was 18 days and everything survived. These submersible pumps live for a decade or so they never die when used a few minutes per day. Very reliable and the plants love it, can withstand higher temps than in dwc or hempy. I recycle the same growrocks forever.

@SquirtleSquad there is and that was the nice thing about the

Hempy’s what you had to learn is how stupidly ez they are

I bought a meter, PH up, PH down :frowning:

use it all of twice it I believe and I still have is a Milwaukee MW801

unneeded started running Jack’s at 1/4 - 1/2 without a problem

I thought I wanted a 12 bucket setup ebb and flow with a reservoir

too much work for me even if it gave me a ton of weed

so I always look back to a 4 by 8 foot flood table and do drain to waste

so many ways to grow a weed

be safe and enjoy the day

EDIT for you  @zem posted slooooowww

Has anyone seen someone run DWC with a 90 off the resivor into your grow buckets?

My tent is in a weird spot. I would have to move to much stuff around.

@LilJonB get a street 90 as it may work better for you

it is a soft 90 more of a sweeping curve then a corner

all the best

That’s a great idea. I wouldn’t have room inside for a resivor. Plus it will keep my water cooler in the summer time keeping the resivor out of the hot tent.

Ive thought about flood and drain, just dont have the room for it unfortunately.

Well, i could make room, but im enjoying the hempies. lol

@LilJonB, be careful to keep all the pipework level if you are running a res outside of the grow space. Otherwise gravity feeding will become a problem.
