My first Hydro Setup 🌿

Ok, I’m thinking of trying my hand at hydro. And when I say try, I mean like a one station setup so I don’t go broke should I suck at it.

What other stuff do I need to get this up and running? I hear ph is vital, as well as nutes, as , well, water doesn’t have any.

Any advice would be super appreciated! :v::peace_symbol::call_me_hand::herb:

I’ve had good luck with EnvyA-EnvyB. Its a two part mix. You don’t have to add anything to it except the microbes, and maybe sone honey during flower for the sugars.

Basically same thing I have to start with. Got mine at my local shop. Its been amazing to watch my lady grow. I just try to keep it simple right now. Good luck and ask questions!!

i agree with @dequilo . Hempys are super easy . Plants grow like crazy . No pumps etc. . Cant get any cheaper .

The hempy bucket looks killer.

How would the nutrient feeding work?

which ever method you decide on, you will need a means to check ph and ec, a means to adjust ph, nutes, and either a source of beneficial bacteria or a sterilizing agent. it would be prudent to check your citys water analysis too, these are usually available online. could save you some hassle and headache later on.

jack’s 20-20-20 veg 10-30-20 flower quarter strength all good

What the best medium mix? Cocoa & perlite?

Those two Jack’s products are awesome. Those are the only ones I use in my soil grows.

Seeing that people use CO2 on plant leaves with success, has any one tried pumping straight O2 into those DWC buckets? I bet the roots would go nuts!

O2 saturation is quite easily achieved with just an air pump. Pumping O2 seems overkill.

I started DWC. $3 blue lowes bucket. 4" netpot lid. Hydroton. Air pump, tubing and cheap active aqua air stone.

Any hydro you will need a means of pH and EC measurement. Thats a tool to listen to what the plants are telling you

I did Hempy buckets a couple of times and whenever I run them

the root mass still blows me away

the Vermiculite is a glass and it cuts the roots and gives you

a dense mat of the fine feeder roots that feed your plants

I did Hempys because they are sooo easy

the perlite and vermiculite buffers the media somewhat like soil/soil-less

it is a lot more forgiving than straight water

I should at this point, point out this are only what I saw in my grows

I have grown since 1974 outside and inside 2001

I grow in soil-less because it is easy and will tell you Hempys are just as easy

but the growth is off the hook

first time I did them my plants fell over they got so big I had to bungie cord

15 pound barbell weights to keep them up to finish

now when I do them I put an inch of #2 stone at the bottom of the bucket

Thing with this style of growing I found people make it hard it is not

truncheon are handy I have a Blue Lab off of ebay got it cheap

also a good Milwaukee meter which cost big bucks

used them both 10 times total

I found I could run the Peters at every watering rate of a 1/4 teaspoon

per gallon with out a problem

Good luck @nefrella I think you will like these buckets

but if you want to grow treez Krusty Freedom Buckets are the buckets

the Clown could grow the weed he was the first grower I saw back in the

day that was doing 4 pounds a single plant inside

all the best

pH and PPM and really picky in hydro.

I always feel those single dwc buckets are overpriced… it’s literally a Black Bucket + Net Pot Lid + Fish Tank Air Pump.

The biggest issue you may or may not have is water temperature. As long as you can keep it in an adequate range you should be good. But it your water gets too warm, you will start to kill the plants.

Hempy is a great simple alternative to dwc. (if you don’t want to do full dwc.)

@nefrella anytime it is how we get better at what we do

sharing what works for you with other helps them with a leg up

and having to not go down the wrong path

I do try to keep what I do in my grows simple as I am lazy

for hydro Hempy buckets are a great way to as they say to get your feet wet ::wink:

I found it to be as forgiving as soil/soil-less

growing in soil is not all that hard especially if you are feeding the plants

living is soil is a gift from god , takes work and a gentle hand

which is not I

so I grow with salt fertilizers but Jacks is one of the better

all the best

@JustSumTomatoes what soil/feeding schedule do u use? Do you feed immediately or wait for the soil to deplete nutrients and start feed “×” weeks…?

So, can I start my clones/seeds in soil, then just transplant the solo cop to the verm/perlite mix direct? Or do I have to "wash"the roots @dequilo
