Since you are outdoor there’s a lot of good people here for that…holler at @Solowolf he has a wealth of knowledge amongst others. See what you might be able to absorb from him
The reason why I failed, because of my chinese language barrier, and being a dump idiot for not absorbing the information in a right way.
I was told to start with 2 seeds every two weeks and see what’s up. But I was so confident that I started with 4 seeds. I thought the more nuted the dirt needs the better. On YouTube you can see people are mixing different sorts of things in the soil. So I thought why shouldn’t I buy soil with all those nutes in it already. It took me to loose 5 seeds to understand that seedling can’t stand nitrogens, while I had them in my premix.
Other 3 seeds taught me that I can’t water the seedling too much. Everybody says don’t water too much. But how much water is enough water?
Thanks to @GMan who said that the seedling must think that it’s spring outside. And the plant wants to be dry sometimes.
The other three seeds were lost just because they didn’t sprout in germination process. I literally flooded them with kitchen napkins. Then seriousseeds uploaded a pdf file where it says about the safest method of germination.
So all my loses gave me something😉
Sorry if my answers are out of topic. As I am at work, I can’t get fully concentrated on this thing now. You keep going, I’ll answer later.
Good!! Every failure should give you something out of it. It is only a failure if you fail to learn from it. Well I sure wish you all the best at it.
Check out these self watering containers
I thought you would be interested easy way to water and stay away from the plants longer
Nice video, but does the plant always needs to be moist? I thought it needs to be dry sometimes. No?
I use Octopots it a wicking system similar to these buckets works well it’s a perfect mix of soil and hydro
It is preferred for the plant to have drier percentage of soil for periods, but not essential. So long as the plants roots are able to get oxygen in the soil the plant will be good, it’s getting this balance between wet and dry so the roots don’t get drowned in water for long periods.
It depends on climate when growing outside. Northern and Southern hemispheres are drier with less humidity, than a tropical equatorial region where you are, that has the problem of to much water in an outside grow.
Your problem is keeping water off your plants and out of the pot.
Can you find some clear plastic to make like a small covering to stop the pot getting soaked continually by the rain. Even a clear plastic umbrella tied to a stick in the ground would be helpful you need air movement as well because of the very high humidity, so a clear plastic tent that is sealed would not be useful I think.
Basic cheap meter from Rapitest. In my lysdexia brain, Rapitest always gets interpreted as “rapeiest”, as in, Ted Bundy was the “rapeiest” guy ever.
You’re doing fine. Don’t let anyone tell you they didn’tkill some plants early on in their learning.
It’s a weed. It will grow and flower without any nutrients in regular ground.
you’re just trying to focus on the basics and not over think it too much. All of the other tricks and tips will slowly come to you as you go along. Find a good “grow weed” “how to” web page or three and just browse them and get familiar with each stage.
It ain’t tough. Treat it like most any other plant. It’s a tiny little seedling at first, so , you can’t overwhelm it with anything; water, nutes, light, heat… too much of anything will damage it likely. Slowly, as it grows and the root mass starts to increase, then it will have much more control over itself to deal with stressful times. You can make mistakes and recover, much easier as the plant gets bigger.
Once it gets it’s “feet” (roots) in about a month, it’ll start to really want to grow a lot. It’s frustrating that first month. peace
That’s freaking hilarious.
Day 19
Today I noticed that she is little taller than before and stem is lightly thicker than before. New leaves are growing a lot faster now. Today we have a sunny day. So I hope it will take all the light it needs.
Will keep posting.
It should start moving a little faster now. What strain is it that you’re growing?
And, how big is that pot that you’re using. Looking really good now.peace
Hi G,
Probably 3-3.5 gallon. The strain is called something strawberry… I don’t remember the full name. I think strawberry A keil. But I am not sure… Serious seeds sent two extra of this strain accompanied with 6 AK - 47.
Can’t wait till the pot gets extra dry… Wanna feed it one more time with the same deluted nute… I know it is still seedling, but it took the nuted water once really well. Maybe it can take it another time too?
But I don’t mind watering it with plain water once again for the safety!
It looks like it could use another dilluted dose. Since it went into a pretty good size pot it’ll be a little slow getting large. the roots want to fill the space or at least find the bottom first. But once it starts it’ll blow you away how fast it can go from tiny to a really vigorous exploding plant. That’s just the way it grows.
You probably want to keep the pot a little moist since it’s so big, or get a pot saucer to water from the bottom, and that will encourage the roots to go to the bottom faster to seek water.
If the nutes were diluted you should be fine with feeding once a week. If it ever gets super dark green and the tips of the leaves get brown, then you’re approaching nitrogen toxicity or just the upper levels. It’s okay to see just that but not more. But, in the early stages, you don’t need to find boundaries by pushing the limits on your first grow. You want a pretty good looking plant with some nice flowers on it to dry after its all said and done! peace
Day 20
I dug the soil 1.5 inch, and it had no moisture. So I added nuted water till the water came out from the bottom.
Now sitting and hoping that it want burn it down. Damn I shouldn’t have done it lol.
We will see what happens.
I have learned here you should water according to the size of the plant, not the pot …
I thought about that too. I’ve actually watered it just under the roots with nuted water for the first time. But right now I don’t know how wide the roots went, so I decided to water the whole pot. Damn, is that too bad now?
I would water slightly in circle around but not near the stem so the roots expand horizontally looking for humidity, too much water for those tiny roots may not be a good option …
It’s been going a while now and looks to be building the 4th node now, so it should be fine. If it seems unusually heavy, just get it into a nice sunny spot to hasten the drying.
I don’t think it’ll hurt. I been thinking it looks on the dry side. It looks fairly stable and healthy so it should show a nice little grow spurt after a couple of days.
If it does anything weird just post. What are your outdoor temps in the day/night?
