Nagel420 - Third Times A Charm!

Well at least you can tell I’m tougher than you despite the fact that you’ve never even seen what I look like :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

87 shows and counting! And all this says is I listen to a variety of music

If Bubba calling you tough makes you feel good while cuddling with him, thats your own thing, it has nothing to do with some damn good live music

I wouldn’t make it 8 or 7 minutes through one show. To YOU it says you listen to a variety of music. To the rest of us it says something very different :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

You’re the one hiding behind me for protection! Plus it’s better than the pet names bubba has for you, Taffy Boy.

And what has anything to do with some “damn good live music”? You only mentioned Phish so I’m completely lost where the good music comes into play?

this always made me laugh. not the biggest fan but plenty of friends who are, so i guess ill call myself neutral. but fuck if that video isnt funny.

Ok I wasted 6.04 minutes of my time on this one

Funny, I was at IT, and I don’t recall this tune  (I was at all their big festivals up to Coventry, from The Clifford Ball to the Went, It, Camp Oswego, The Lemonwheel and Big Cypress…)

It is kinda funny, your vid… Interesting side story… The Clifford Ball was my first show in 1996. I HATED Phish but went to the show because all my friends were going, and none were going to Bethel for Woodstock. By the end of the first set, I was converted. Thankfully it was a “Rocker” first set. They have so many styles, but the rock and the funk grooves get me… Opening with Chalkdust Torture, I was like “WHAT? Phish plays ROCK too!!!” And the rest is history…

Ok, that does it! gonna duct tape you to a chair and force you to listen to my catalog…

Little Phish Jam session this morning. hmm… Lets start with some Lizards… One of my favorites for sure, you can’t help but bounce during the chorus. And damnit, the piano from Page is ON POINT…

Next up, hmm… So many good tunes… I think we’ll stick to JUST the Clifford Ball… So, next is STASH! Always reminded me of the music in legend of zelda with the oil droplet rooms.

Here’s one of my top 3 favorites… The Squirming Coil. Another tune with beautiful piano in it… The piano solo especially…

And we’ll wrap up with the ACTUAL song that converted me… Chalkdust Torture, from the Clifford Ball… This is a rocker, and for me it was like HOLY SHIT, THEY PLAY ROCK!!!

i’ve got a list of songs from them that i can get down to, but if you speak with phish heads its not thier heady catalog. i honestly have trouble with any jam band-y music overall, like i need the song to end in a reasonable amount of time. not every song needs a guitar solo for like 20 minutes. but i can get down with whatever, ive learned not to hate shit as much as i get older. except twiddle. fuck twiddle.

Man… late 90’s “Free” had like 45 min run times with super long solos. I wish we could get a late 90’s free today…

The songs I listed above aren’t excessive in their solos / jams… I really get into the piano though, Page is THE man on the keys… Chalkdust probably has the longest solo thats a bit unrestrained, but they way they build up anticipation before they drop back into the groove still gets me…

Ok has anyone seen the greatfull dead ( oh yeah you guys where too young mommy wouldn’t let you go ) jerry doing dark star live solo 30 minutes of guitar fantasy lol
20 minutes solo is nothing anyone remember iron butterfly drum solo that went on forever
Don’t get me started I’ll flood the threat with old rock heroes , guitar legends like beck John McLaughlin Eric Clapton Johnny winter and not to mention Roy Buchanan and many more

Not a single song posted here did anything but reinforce my prior hatred :face_vomiting:

I’m not bothered by long songs if the song is at least half listenable in the firstplace so that rules out Phish for me. If I was a Gov’t Mule show and Warren wanted to stretch a song to 20 minutes I can’t imagine I’d be bummed.

Raises his hand!

Not only did I see their last shows at Giants Stadium, I was fortunate enough to have a photographer / diver friend visiting Cozumel get us a pair of passes for Dead & Co “Playing in the Sand”, Riviera Maya, MX shows on 2/15-2/18 back in 2018. Those tix were dream tix for me, just absolutely unaffordable otherwise (packages started at $5k). All inclusive show, including food and beer, on the beach. First and ONLY concert I got to enjoy part of while swimming in the ocean.

I gotta say though, when Mickey goes nuts on the drums, its time to smoke a doob and get some beer. Space can take forever!

And feel free to explain the virtues of the legends to these youngsters. Saw Clapton a few times, Jeff Beck and John McLaughlin as well. Wish I saw Johnny Winter… And don’t forget Steve Vai or Joe Satriani…

Here’s a fun tidbit. At my college (Ramapo College) we had a student musicians union. All sorts of band projects going on, and we got to use the schools “recording studio” lol.

Well… Who was the part time advisor? None other than THE man himself… Mr. Les Paul… He lived right around the corner from the college. Got to chat with him many times, the way his mind worked, how creative he was, truly a man of genius…

When he passed away they sold a lot of things out of his house, but I remember begging my parents to no avail to let me bring some stuff home that was gonna go in the dumpster. Old reel to reel multitrack recorders, HUGE mixing boards, all sorts of vintage gear that they just didn’t have the incentive to sell. No guitars obviously…

That was truly a treat… Just hearing about how this man would read thousands of pages of metalurgy reports to come up with new metal mixes to make guitar string with for different tones / effects… Hearing how he made his first multitrack recorder. Yeah, I still consider myself super fortunate to have met that man, much less have many conversations with him. His longtime bandmate, Lou Pallo, still plays with a guitarist friend of mine, Vince Genella (I swear he’s a virtuoso in disguise and just hasn’t been signed yet)…

Hey @Slick1 Your favorite band is about to start!

3rd night in Vegas… Halloween shows ALWAYS rock. Tomorrow they will don a “musical costume” and perform an album from some other band in its entirety…

And I finally recovered my account info for Sirius XM (bought a lifetime subscription in 2009, never streamed it before tonight). And they are broadcasting the whole show tonight     AND its already turning into a GREAT theme night with the first two tunes being animal related… Edit: THREE animal tunes… Ya know what this means? My FAVORITE song from them will be played and I wont be there!!! I’m calling Lizards for set 1 closer right now…

I don’t care if you like their music or not… The phans and atmosphere are a different world. The interaction between band and audience is better than any band I have seen. The crowd humming the melody line for Bathtub Gin, or back in the day they had “Language Lessons” where musical cues would tell the audience what to do (for example, a tease of the simpsons theme song prompted the crowd in unison to say homers DOH!).

I had many good shows, 87 so far! Gunning for 100

damnit, so nostalgic I gotta roll a joint for this…

1:16am Edit. Ok didnt close set 1 with Lizards… But they started set two with another animal song, so I’m guessing the entire show is animals themed. My lizards is still in store!!! time to roll another

The first set was insane though, THESE are the rare shows I miss. This setlist is OFF the HOOK for them…

The Dogs, Ocelot, Turtle in the Clouds, Run Like an Antelope, Camel Walk, Wombat, Guyute, Big Black Furry Creature from Mars, Shaggy Dog, Dog Faced Boy, The Sloth, Llama, I Am the Walrus
