Yep, plus or minus a few days. The F2s I’ve seen so far are looking very much like the mom, which was right up there with some of the most flavourful herb I’ve smoked. Intense flavour, but a 3 outta 5 in the buzz department.(but I smoke hash from before sunrise to after sunset )
I hope you enjoy the Affies and best of luck with the Lemon Slush seed start! Tag me if you get some going, so I can watch along.
Looking very good
Any difficulties with growing so many different strains at once?
@NoCal
It’s something I’ve learned over time but the short answer is yes. I have a certain way I grow and I throw out seed and keep the varieties that accept that method. You have to be willing to accept that a plant may be off but you can’t necessarily change everything to fit one plant. Learning to prune and structure plants is important. You’ll notice all my plants minus the short one are roughly the same height and shape.
I also spend roughly a month obsessively researching the strains, their background, look for grow photos, and all the info I can to make sure the plants will fit my style and that they can be grown similarly and will flower similarly. 15 years of experience growing all kinds of different strains also helps, I just know what to expect usually.
But like anything I started with one or two and now I do as many as I want.
It’s looking nice in here
Idk what it is with your pics there’s a rare clarity and tonal quality to them?
I was going to dslr camera but these days it could be a IPhone lol, what’s your secret?
Very nice!
Thanks! I’m actually taking more bud shots today should be some good ones
As far as my “secrets” more than happy to share. I use a DSLR with either a 1:1 macro lens or higher strength 2.5-5:1 lens. You need a tripod for sure with a remote for the shutter.
The secret to the focus on the pictures is a technique called focus stacking. On the bud shots those are actually 20-50 combined photos and trichome shots are usually 100-200 for the good ones. Then all those photos are used to create one higher quality picture with full frame focus.
Any questions let me know. One thing I found out getting into photography is people are very guarded about their techniques. Hard to find information beyond just the basics. Happy to share anything I’ve figured out.
Love your sharing attitude and nice pics!
I actually did a bit of a google rabbit hole dive based on the lens you posted early in the thread, figuring out what it would take to get a setup because those macros are way better than my $20 USB microscope (LOL, shocking right )
I did some optical science and lens design for a while, but never dove into photography so to speak. The lenses are very sophisticated for the price. The results are great as well. I did stacking of images in astronomy to improve signal-to-noise ratio, but not focus stacked. What software do you use?
Here’s one of my astrophotos
Nice looking run you got there!
I’m using photoshop and Lightroom, I’m self taught so it’s just easiest to find how to’s for Adobe.
I didn’t want to spend alot getting into this at first so here are a couple buying tips that saved me money
Camera
In the last 10 years there hasn’t been alot of development in camera technology for DSLR’s, mostly just convenience features like higher res displays touch screens Bluetooth/Wi-Fi etc. if you’re willing to sacrifice these features you can save alot. I bought a flagship model from several years ago and as far as the camera capabilities go it is on par with many of todays models. EBay is littered with good camera deals. I have all of my equipment through there and I never buy anything on eBay really.
Lens
You can do most all cannabis photography with a 1:1 lens. There are tons out there. I use a Tokina but there’s lots of options. I wouldn’t waste money on auto focus or anything like that. Vibration reduction would be nice but that adds alot to the price. You just want a good manual focus ring nice and smooth and a working distance at 1:1 off at least a few inches. Otherwise photographing actual plants will be difficult. With my 5x lens I have a working distance of 2” very hard to photograph live plants. If you go to higher magnification there are less purchasing options. 5x is the strongest lens out of the box I think you can buy the two brands are Canon and Laowa. I have a Nikon so Laowa was my only option.
Your looking $500-600 to get into this with a macro lens if you buy used equipment
Hope that helps some
Did you shoot this with a camera? Astronomy photos would be cool but those are like the most expensive cameras out there. I’m on weed and birds lol
Gotcha, totally get that! I’ve bought all kinds of stuff on eBay, usually older high-end equipment that needs repair. I’m an electronics guy so I’ve built a lab from damaged equipment I repair and recalibrate. I’ll keep my eyes peeled but it looked to me about $500-$1K to get into as you said.
Definately appreciate the recommendations for lens, and considerations working with plant photography. Those practical pieces of guidance are very helpful.
The astronomy side was a camera, yeah. A specialized camera, SBIG-ST10XME with discrete filters for each color - the camera itself is broadband and you build a color image yourself with individually imaged red, green and blue. And the lens, well, that was an extraordinary Takahashi FS-152 telescope (6" F8 apochromat refractor). I had access to amazing equipment when I was in graduate school. I did most of my image processing (calibration, registration and stacking) with a MATLAB program I made myself. That image represents more than 7 hours of telescope shutter-open time, a ton of several-minute exposures combined to create a lower-noise shot. This was more than 10 years ago, so the cameras have improved significantly since then. I think the camera I used was built in 2008-9.
I had a lot of fun with it, it was nice to setup the equipment to its potential and I got some incredible shots
Cheers man, sorry to have sidetracked your thread!
No worries I love talking photography, always wanted to try the Astronomy stuff but that’s outside my budget for sure lol. I bought a Nikon D7100 as a kit on eBay with two kit lenses and some accessories for 275. The tokina lens was like $200 in great condition. I bought my other gear like tripod and focus rail from neewer they had good sturdy gear for a fair price. Going to get a light from them too to get rid of these shadows. Feel free to stop in anytime
Day 26 for the 2x2 they’ll go into flower Monday. The LAPK is super vigorous and just keeps getting bigger. Bracing for a big stretch. The star pupil is growing straight up. Staying tight but getting tall. The Grape Juice Cocktail is a compact branch bush. They all got some more tops should be 4 nice keepers in here, should be 4-8 tops per plant.

Fighting that urge to cut the Elephant Stomper and Communion. Getting there but not quite. Showing a lot of Amber on the ES but it’s still pushing lots of new foxtails so letting it go a few more days see if they ripen up any.
Normal photos nice ones coming here shortly

Some thick ladies
Some thick ladies indeed!! Flower tent is looking fantastic @Naptown916. Looks like your set up for a very bountiful harvest. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Affie.
@budderton Smells delicious, very sweet floral. Going to be great in a jar you can already tell. Still getting bigger too I expect it’ll be a pretty hefty yield. My wife says she can see red blue hues in the buds and that’s with no low temps impresses so far on all fronts.
Right on. Some of the F2s from both the A9 and A11 lines have shown pink pistils when grown outside so the potential for color is definitely there. They look like they won’t have a problem filling up the jars and hopefully the effects end up being something like.
OK here are some good photos from today, all with a 1:1 lens, I tried getting some of the Affie but the Communion is in the way and it was hard to get a good shot. The two angles I tried came out like dookie but I’ll be able to get good ones once the Communion is down. Going to finally buy a photography light so that should help with these shadows.

Nice looking plants from my friend, is that a flora flex setup ?
