Question for you as a glass blower… Can you work with crystal instead of glass? Is there colored crystal?

I’m thinking it may work for a longer lasting pipe. There is not one glass pipe I’ve owned that I haven’t broken!

Hey @Kabuddha im actually not a glass blower myself, just a big fan of the medium and a collector. Not sure about working with crystal, I would imagine that would depend on its melting point as to whether or not it could be worked with typical glassblowing tools or not, but they’re making bangers out of quartz so I have to imagine it’s somewhat possible, just not sure of the “how” myself. You might want to look into some of the old school pipe makers though because their stuff tends to be wicked thick, I’ve got a spoons from Vassily Crettol and Jerry Kelly that I could probably drive nails with and not break em

If anyone is in the market Hermit Glass is having a little sale on his pieces, I just bought a new spoon from him because I have no self control :joy::joy:

The box with my new hermit glass spoon showed up last night, had to share some shots of it. Beautiful piece, from the spiral murrinne to the chaos fuming, lots to look at once you’re done hitting it:

The only thing I’m not 100% stoked about is the size, way smaller than I though looking at photos on IG, it’s on me for not asking about it, but I expected a full size spoon for the price. That being said it’s not a big deal and it’s still a gorgeous piece of work, just need to remind myself to get some scale references next time:

As a collector of glass, do you have and Snodgrass, or Badtram pieces? Just curious. I have so few pieces from before that I wish I still had. Stupid life.

You probably have seen this image elsewhere on OG, but here was my birthday present from my buddy last month.

Oh… I made the marbles while he made that piece. It was an amazing bday gift. One of the best ever.

Also, if your interested in his work, check out his IG.Brad Chun on Instagram: "Collab set with my good friend @mitchellglass . This one stayed in the friend circle. Thanks y'all for the support. That is a gorgeous piece!! Sadly I don’t own any, but I am a big fan of Snodgrass pieces as well as his family’s work and his apprentices, I’m on glassjunkees site weekly drooling over stuff I’ll never be able to afford, I’d love to own a top hat or some other kind of super heady hammer someday, just gotta out those pennies away I guess

Yeah man! Great stuff, but $$$. That hermit piece is pretty sweet! Looks nice and heavy. And that cane in there is gorgeous.

Spunchun apprenticed with snoddy back in 95ish. He’s got some great stories. :yum:

Well it’s cool you helped and got to watch the pipe evolve. I worked for a Mexican glass company years ago and one of their specialties was crystal, glassware and figurine’s. I was always amazed watching the craftsmen shaping the leaded crystal into animals with minimal tools.

Oh yeah! Those figure guys are amazing.
He taught my wife and I years and years ago, and I just loved making vortex marbles. I still have a handful somewhere. But I’ve moved a couple times since then and haven’t built a spot for my torch again. It’ll happen one of these days. I need more art time in my life.

It was awesome that he let me have so much input on that piece. I could of spent days there.

There’s a head shop here that offers lessons, I’ve been wanting to take one to learn a little bit about glassblowing

It’s so fun. And not too tough to get the hang of. But mastering it takes some time. There’s some amazing techniques out there that used to be close guarded secrets. Now they’re shared more openly. Thankfully.

I just won a pipe! A friend of mine was doing an Instagram Christmas giveaway where you bought a shirt he printed for $20 shipped and got entered to win a pipe from his collection, I won and got a tiny little hammer from BT Glass, who’s a Snodgrass apprentice from Eugene. Super excited to see it in person, I love tiny pipes when they’re well made and don’t burn my finger through the carb, this one looks dope:

Hell yea @Dirt_Wizard congrats man, that’s a beautiful piece. I’ve got that Vassily Crettol mini hammer that I’ve been using a lot and really enjoying myself, still wish it was a bit bigger though :joy:
