Old School Heady Glass Appreciation Thread

@Dale Definitely take a look at some of the websites mentioned in this thread, they have a lot of glass from their in house blowers and sometimes others. I’ve had a few pieces from Chameleon over the years and I can say that when it comes to the “handmade in the US but more than a sole proprietor” range of companies they’re excellent and seem to have good ethics about their work conditions etc. They sometimes have pieces from outside blowers too in their Piece of The Day section which is archive stuff they’re pulling out:

I’ve had Zong and PHX. My last one was a Toro 3 perc tree welded w ash catcher. 750.00, but we all know what happens when a move happens and someone throws out a box that shouldn’t have been touched :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I realized that I started this thread off with some dirty bong pictures. Can’t have that. Snapped some nicer ones of the Keiki:

Lol I hope one of you dorks got this one! I went back to think again about buying it and it’s gone. That’s ok though, I’ve been talking to this David James guy @LegsMahoney mentioned and he’s got another batch of inside out spoons dropping in a week and I’m picking up a few because his prices were very decent and he asked what I might be interested in, so now I’m on the hook. Had him set aside one I already want and I think he’s going to make something else I like, and it’ll be about the same $90 or less for two.

Chameleon Glass seems like a pretty chill company. I had got a Aragorn’s Briar pipe (hash bowl with glass wand included) from them and then had talked to and suggested to the lady running support (Allison I think?), that they should make their Gandalf pipe into a hash bowl option as well. Not just because Gandalf pipes rock, but because the added distance for cooling the air through the glass pipe seemed like it made it a perfect candidate for a hash pipe. It took them about a month to get their ducks in a row and have the artist make a run of them. I now have one of these Gandalf hash pipes (Still have not used it yet honestly lol), so A+ to them for listening to a good tip from a passionate customer :+1:

That’s great to hear! I still will probably get one or two of their production pipes as beaters, that’s actually the one I’m closest to pulling the trigger on. You like yours?

I haven’t bought new glass since I’ve started spending money on seeds.

Here’s a few of my nicer 18mm bowls.

Both the hash bowls I have from them are pretty cool. Honestly I use mine for rosin and not actual hash, so my needs of function are a bit different than people using normal hash. That being said, the Aragorn’s Briar hash bowl (clear) is quite fun to use for taking some sips of rosin when I am sitting at my computer :+1:

Only con was they only had the hash bowls in clear.

Up next is the Strawberry Glass hammer, got this one from Mountain Jam Glass online when I decided that I needed a hammer in the arsenal. The color change on this one has been real crazy from what it looked like before it started filling in, super comfortable shape, super reasonable price.

Next time I’m at my friend’s house I’ll take a photo of the sidecar he’s had since he traded wicker baskets he stole from his job for it in the Phish parking garage back in 2002. It’s not breathtaking glasswork but it sure is heady and old school

@Dirt_Wizard definitely do that, would love to check out your buddy’s glass.

Morning everyone, figured I’d kick today off with a couple photos of my second JBD pixie:

This was the first one I bought, and she chugs pretty good, although nowadays she mostly sits on the shelf. The other pixie I have has a little bit taller bubble which allows for more water, and the downstem reaches all the way to the back edge of the bubble, vs this one which lands square in the middle. The effect of that is that this one has a tendency to spit water up at you if you pull the slide too fast, really not a problem, but I tend to favor the function of the other pixie or the Keiki, so this one stays clean for display your poses at the moment. Hope everyone is doing good out there :v:t2::call_me_hand:t2:

What an awesome thread Legs! My only regret is finding it when I’m out of likes :sob: lol. Much love though

I miss my all my old school glass pieces

I had a few really nice ones. My favourite was a zong where one of the bends was the perfect handle, and it hit like a champ. A tear was shed the day it broke.

I had a Jerome baker bong way back in the day spent like $300 on it that I left at a friends house to go drop off a bag came back and was shattered on the tile floor. I was payed back for it but very upset cause this was right after operation pipe dream when they busted a bunch of glass blowers including the guy that made my bong.

@EugeneDebs420 what a tragedy! especially if you go on ebay and see what the pre-op JBDs fetch nowadays, some unreal prices out there.

This is a piece I bought when going into a new to me glass shop in my area. The work sold there is made there for the most part (they carry very few Cali pieces for the sheep lol) and now that COVID restrictions are finally easing I need to see if they are back to offering blowing classes.
I digress though,
Here’s my favorite fanciest one person piece.

Photos don’t do it justice. The whole piece also has something like a glitter effect to it along with the fuming. Idk for the price of $35 I couldn’t find a better deal on a nice piece that’s hit concrete once or twice  and still going strong… even if no classes I think I’m going to talk to him about a small custom piece instead of a premade one. I have an idea of what I’d like in a pipe…
