Oleskool’s Shitkicker Grow Show. Navigating the Fog

I’ve tried putting a heater in there but a 1500 watt heater blows a breaker every time. I’ve got them loaded up with shit. 1500 extra watts is apparently too much. Bigger breaker maybe? Maybe an electrician could help me out. Any out there? @GMan? Any thoughts?
@ReikoX?

I know your wiring has to support it. You could put in a 20A breaker, but the romex in your wall is probably matched to 15A. You never know until you check.

I’m going to have to check. I think it’s a 20 amp breaker. Is that standard residential? I used 12 gauge Romex to run power to the shed

Thanks!

20A should run a 1500w heater. My wife runs one on a 15A and it only sometimes trips, usually if something else gets turned on the circuit

12 gauge should be good on a 20 - 30 amp breaker, huh?

I have a heater in the grow room with a humidifier, and it has two power settings, but also has another knob for thermostat. I can back off on either the high or low mode with less load and less electric load.

We’re supposed to get a few inches of snow tonight and tomorrow with lows going to near zero tomorrow night. Gonna be single digits here tonight. Zero tomorrow and the next night. I’m flipping my Space Monkey tomorrow. I’ve been bringing the lights down an hour a night.

I’ve been lucky with some good work lately. I won’t be working the next two to three days due to snow and near zero temps. Next week will be much milder and I’ll start it back up.

I hope to get my crop fed and flipped, and hopefully sexed, while I’m off. Hope y’all don’t get to bad a weather event. I talked to my oldest sister tonight (my step brother died from Covid yesterday) and she said west Texas was supposed to get some snow. She’s back in Bama but has a couple of daughters who still live there.

Man, I’m sore af, and tired to the bone from the last two days. Thank God for a couple of days off to recuperate.

Stay warm and sleep with your plants in case they need you to spoon with them in the cold. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: peace and warmth

Excellent! What sort of work? New construction or remodeling? Oh man! That’s tragic about your step bro. We’re you tight with him? Fuck Covid! I’m vaccinated to the max but I carry my mask with me. Lol. Don’t always wear it unless I’m in a crowded place. If you’re like me my dad spewed kids all over Texas in his 3 marriages. I’ve got steps and halves all over the place. I’m as nervous as a whore in church about the next 3 days of freezing temps. I’ve got a heater for the shed but if I lose power I’m fucked. :flushed: We will have ice but snow isn’t likely. The high on Friday will be 28.

High today is supposed to be 15. It’s 10 now and going to -2 tonight. My space heater is running full blast in the old bedroom. I’m feeding them the first bloom food and full flip tonight I think. It’s still snowing lightly with about 4-5 inches on the ground from all night. Today is Groundhog day, so, no shadow here. I didn’t hear what the veteran groundhog saw this morning.

He saw his shadow. 6 more weeks! Nasty little bastard!

Good luck, man. Ice is the kicker here, 1/4" and stuff starts cracking.

Maybe heat up some rocks on the barbeque, caveman style, lol!

In my quest for heating sources for tents I came across this. Interesting I thought.

That’s a pretty cool site. I subscribed to it. There are a lot of homeless people in Colorado. On another note, Jeff Bezos will give you a ride in his space ship for around a half million dollars (?) for about 30 min.

UPDATE: current temperature in my little burg is 3º.

One of the kids got one of these for his tree cabin

I think those Buddy heaters are the preferred heat source for van/RV dwellers.

Those things work great, I have one for those cold fall days when hanging outside at the lake and it’s down to 3 or 4 deg. They suck up a ton of propane but produce a great amount of heat.

Well, it’s past 9am and the temp is still -4 with sunshine and no wind. Supposed to go to 20 today and mostly cold nights all week.

Did you guys get that bad ice storm in your neck of the woods? Looks like it’s a bad one.

I wouldn’t want to use one in anything that was too tightly closed up, though.

They do make it toasty, and there’s a 20gal tank (or even bigger) adapter for an all night burn.

I was looking at those too. One of my top pics. A little pricey but worth it I suspect. These cold snaps that last 3 days or so are survivable. The Freeze Out last February lasted 9 days. It’s been in the 20s for 48 hours now. I’m still as nervous as a Republican at a BLM protest and will remain so until it gets above freezing on Saturday. I haven’t been out to the Shed yet to check on them because there’s not a damn thing I can do and it’s better to keep tents closed. I strung an extension cord from the house to the shed so I could run a small 1500 watt space heater. After running it on full blast for an hour the temp increases by 1 degree! :slightly_frowning_face: The floor of the shed is dry cedar mulch so fire is a concern. So far it’s 29 inside the shed and 35 inside tents. It’s gonna be a long cold night in the Shitkicker Shed. A lot of nice plants in harms way. I might have to take @GMan’s advice and spoon with my Goats tonight. Won’t be the first time I spooned with a goat! Lol

Are you sure the thermometer’s not set on C°/ Yikes, that’s chilly… I’ve had plants outside, under some plastic, covered with snow that made it. I’m rooting for 'em!

That didn’t involve a rubber boot, did it? :grinning:
