Here is my DIY Worm feeding chamber. .
In theory this will work, but only time will tell if this actually works.
The idea here is that the container is buried under the soil up till about the rim, leaving just enough room to cleanly snap the lid on/off.
Used a mini torch to melt some larger holes all over it, this is how the worms & Microbes will move In/Out of the container while in the soil.
Once installed, just place frozen smoothys or other food for worms inside the container, snap the lid in place and check it again a week later…
Could also be used to help airrate the soil surrounding it or help water deeper into the soil to make the roots of plants stretch a little more.
Since the lid is clear, I’ll just toss soil cover on it once the lid is in place…
The whole point of this is to effectively feed the worms & Microbes, have a hole large enough I can use my hand to scoop out the Worm Castings at some point & to not disturb the soil or create bug issues while feeding kitchen scraps to worms.
What ya think of this idea?
@ChemicalDependant
2 minutes later this is installed hole is about 7 inches or so deep, like the size of a larger yogurt container…
Ps. This is the first time since I started the No Till back in February that I’ve actually dug into the soil & happily surprised the soil is perfectly moist and not compacted at all.
Well I guess that didn’t last long. Decided I needed a larger container with a dark lid and many more holes. Ahaha thank you Mayonnaise container
I would reckon anything would work. Good call on the heat, any holes need nice soft edges so you don’t eviscerate them.
Yeah man. Heat = nice rounded no sharp edges.
That’s exactly what I felt like hahhaha
The new hole lol
I left it sticking out a little because I’m putting 10 gal of my Worm bin In here real soon. Actually added a few handfuls of Worm dirt & worms to this bin just now
Soon as this last plant is done I’ll drop 10 gallons of Worm bin goodness ontop of the soil cover then add 10000s of Red Clovers for a cover crop.
Then drop some more beans… but which one?
That is a brilliantly cunning idea!!
The worms go total orgy mode with smoothies. The small one should keep any no-till setup knee-deep in worms and castings.
With the clover?
You can have too much of a good thing…
Cheers
G
Glad you like it. This morning it had lots of moisture inside the container with the lid on all night. Within the next few weeks we will be able to test this out will all the worms in this bin. Only putting food in this container so it draws them all into it. I’ll be sure to plant the Clover a little more spareingly
@firehead I got mail from you today. Much appreciated
@JustSumTomatoes you around bud?
Holy nuggets
This is the No Till Bed soil cover full of dead leaves, Wood chips, activated Charcoal, neem leaves ect…
Now with 8 gallons of earth Worm bin contents dumped ontop.
Sprinkled red clover seeds all over
So this tent now houses;
1 cannabis plant close to finish
1 two foot edible Chives (choped before photo)
1 chocolate mint
1 Orange Mint
1 Rosemary bush
10 gal of worms 🪱 & everything I’ve added to in the last 6 months.
Wish me luck lol
Just dropped some Photoperiod Feminized Seeds in water.
#26) ( 2 ) Girl scout Cookies - Seedman
#27) ( 1 ) Sour Diesel - Orginal harvest seeds
#43) ( 1 ) LowDak @LeftHandSeeds ( Pre98 Bubba x Afghani Kush ) x (Lowland Afghan) = Lowdak takes 54 days usually to finish Flowering.
I have 3 LowDak in the ground right now. Good luck on the next grow!
Ohhh. You got any pics up? How are they to grow so far?
The only way to find out if this Worm feeding device actually works, is to use it. @ChemicalDependant
The food; Bannana peels & Strawberry
In the hole it goes, covered with some soil & screwd the lid back on. Will check a few hours after lights out and see if any worms 🪱 made it inside …
I’ve been looking around for mine, think I’ll use a peanut butter jar. Or I don’t know, do you think pipe down toward the bottom would be even better? That’s my current hang up.
