The issue with that being that I don’t know any basements in this area that don’t leak. We have lots of clay soil around and it expands and contracts so much with wet/ dry cycles that it is hard to keep them crack free.
Edit: cracks in the cement is what I meant. Kids, don’t do drugs!
I feel you, our soil here is the same. The only reason our basement doesn’t flood every time it rains is our sump pump. As soon as it fails there’s water down the walls.
Oh I use to have a tent in my bedroom next to the bed. The fiance was never impressed but then I tried to use a air pump for my hempeys. That didn’t last long haha.
Anyways, I got to work drilling 6 holes on the bottom of this 112 liter/ 27 gal container…
Coverd the holes with some air filter cloth and added some plastic beads & volcano rocks to keep the soil from cloging the holes for drainage ( I have the container lifted off the floor with 2x4 posts to allow good drainage)
Filled the container 3rd of the way up and added all nutrients;
Worm Castings (4 cup)
Organic Raw Coconut Chips (2 cup)
Organic Kelp Powder (2 cup)
Seven Sea Veggies (3 Tbls)
Gaia Green 444 (3 cup)
Gaia Green 284 (3 cup)
Volcanic rock (4 lbs)
Mixed the living soil out of it and took my time slowing moisturizing the soil with bottled water untill spongey and damp (not sopping wet)…
Repeated the same steps again BUT with;
Worm Castings (4 cup)
Organic Raw Coconut Chips (1 cup)
Organic Kelp Powder (2 cup)
Seven Sea Veggies (1Tbls)
Gaia Green 444 (1 cup)
Gaia Green 284 (1cup)
Volcanic rock (4 lbs)
Again repeated the same steps with:
Worm Castings (2 cup)
Organic Kelp Powder (1 cup)
Seven Sea Veggies (1Tbls)
Gaia Green 444 (1 cup)
Gaia Green 284 (1cup)
Volcanic rock (4 lbs)
Finished this off with a 3 inch layer of soil and topped the whole thing off with Soil cover:
Promix Orchid mix = (Western fir bark mostly)
Organic Apple wood chips
Bamboo charcoal = (smell reducer, pest prevention & microbes refuge)
Organic Bamboo charcoal (3 cup)
Tottal soil 112 liters/27 gals approximately
Tottal Amendments;
Soil Airration Amendments:
Lava Rocks 10 lbs & (Pearlite already in HP Pro)
For now I’m finishing off the micro plants I’ve got growing while the soil settles in and the microbes start to make this home… Soon as the current ones are drying . I’ll be dropping some new beans.
The 2 pales on the right side is for a “micro compost” to add items in to make super nutrient filled top dressings ,).
Oh, wow, so you’re gonna do a no till grow in that Rubbermaid container thing? Did you drill holes in the sides of the container or anything? You’re probably gonna have to water a lot less than if you were growing in airpots, like probably only twice a week.
I keep all of my excess soil in 65 gallon Rubbermaid containers and just for storage, I drill little holes all over the bottom and sides of those containers. Way more than six holes in the bottom.
Yeah I got just 6 holes drilled in the bottom. But they are 1/4" in size. I’ve already watered it to make it mushy, not sopping wet and not dry. Just a nice moisture level. . I’m glad I won’t have to water alot actually lol I only use bottled water and that gets costly if used alot.
Good news update… found someone local to me to deliver Red Wigglers “Eisenia Fetida” 🪱
I get a nest of 200 worms, some bedding, microbes and some advise on caring for them for $20… good Deal
Okay, cool. Are you gonna log your grow here in this thread? I wanna check it out.
If you can afford it, you can get a decent reverse osmosis system for like $200. I actually just bought a second RO unit for $225, but it’s like a three-stage “under the sink” unit. If you’re cool with having an RO system sitting on your kitchen counter, you can get a countertop unit for even cheaper than that. Think I’ve seen them for around $150.
Yes. I’ll log info about the worms here. This thread is all about the microbs & No Till stuff.
I used to have a 5 stage RO system here. Actually had a 3 stage also… they really didn’t help much and we go through water faster then it can produce. Shit PSI here. I also have a water cooler with jugs and also put that to rest. Now we just buy 10 cases of 48 water bottles from Costco ever other week. We use it for drinking, cooking, pets and plants.
Ah, okay, yeah, shit PSI will definitely make your RO work harder. Still, might be worth it just to have SOME RO water on hand, to supplement the bottled water if nothing else. 480 empty bottles of water getting recycled every two weeks is a LOT to recycle.
