I use insect frass in my soil mixes, in my top dress mix as well as mixed in my foliar teas and feed. Generally the NPK is a 3 - 2 - 4 or 2 - 2 - 2. @Sunvalley hit the nail in the head personally I’v not had to use it ,it’s know to increase the plants SAR, I use crabmeal for the chitin component of the soil mix coupled with good compost that has( hypoapis miles mites )and worm cast really keeps soil bugs away!
It’s the chitin that’s converted over to chitinase performed by microbes that the plant uses.
