Looking to find reliable sources for roach and cricket poop. Any suggestions?
Cricket frass source I had on ebay doesn’t think customer service should be a thing and messaging him that I’m unhappy with the lack of communication and ignoring my offers requesting 10% off($2) as a return customer that has sent many referrals his way and still no response but now blocked from his ebay store so obviously my offers and messages were getting through, just a seller that prefers to hide behind a device rather than give good customer service or communicate with its customers, so I’d hope other members on here also ignore his listings and don’t purchase from him even though I referred him in the past, customer service should still be number 1
Start a mealworm farm I have one going for feeders for my geckos but all the dead beetles and frass get blended up I have more then I can use and there super simple to care for not to mention fresh is best!
Already got that covered and don’t mind raising those for my fishing bait but I like microbe diversity so specifically looking for cricket and roach since I won’t raise those again
A moderate light npk but the main reasons is for its systemic acquired resistance or SAR response Systemic Acquired Resistance its a whole plant response that ups the plants defense by tricking its being attacked by bugs causing it to up its defenses also has Salicylic acid and a good amount of chitin in it
Chitin is excellent for the plants and having the microbes present from bug poop gives the plants more resistance to disease and pathogens cuz it “feels its under attack”
Here’s a great read I found on it that can explain better than I can but ultimately it’s just to boost my plants immune system
The Importance of Chitin
Closely related to cellulose, chitin is a naturally occurring molecule that is found in the shells of crustaceans like lobsters and crabs, as well as the exoskeletons of insects. In many cases, it is also found in algae and yeast. Chitin’s benefit to plants is that it causes them to be fortified from their cell walls out.
When used in fertilizer, chitin triggers the immune systems of plants. Thus, causing them to rev up and defend themselves against predators like root-feeding nematodes and disease pathogens in the soil. The presence of chitin triggers plants to think that insects are eating them. Thus, causing them to build up their cell walls and release natural insect toxins as a defense.
Though chitin doesn’t act as a pesticide, its presence prepares plants to better withstand a pest-filled onslaught, should one come.
Check your local pet stores and ask what days they clean their cricket bins. I work at a Petco and I have brought home the dead crickets on the bottom of the bin from cleaning them out. Sun dry them first!
Though, I know I’m taking the stuff home when I’m cleaning, so I don’t just dump the water gel and corn meal food in with the frass.
