Man, you’re making me strain my memory bank. I’m post '71 with any of my knowledge.
It seems like sensimilla was coming out of Florida around 75-77? I also remember some people out of Atlanta(Marietta) that were growing by '76. That was when I left the southeast and moved to the northwest. I was in the Navy in Bremerton Washington, and it had a ton of people growing outside. It seemed like everybody was. I don’t remember commercial sensimilla much then though. I lived a short while in Southern Oregon in '78 and we were growing outdoors but nothing serious. I moved after about 6 months though and ended up in Montana where I started seeing lots of good sensimilla I assumed was from Cali because we had a good many people from there originally. I was just not into the dealing thing by then. I was trying to make money working a legit job but smoked all the time. I just moved way too much with my job to get into growing or selling.
Wow, so many flashback memories but most likely nothing of interest to you other than what I was seeing. Looking back, life was like a fantastical story. The shit I did until about 20 still blows my mind. What a time to grow up. Best vibes on the search. I’m starting to realize how long it’s been since I’ve seen certain people. Holy crap. peace
I think I may have a photo or two from '75 when I still had my long hair… I gotta dig that stuff out and see what I can find
Wow I have a hard time remembering what I did last week and the late sixties were a blur . A lid was $20 a match box was five bucks mostly seeded Columbian sometimes Panama Red and brick weed from Mexico a lot of our armed forces were bringing home weed from south east Asia . A lot of mixed beans were sown so a lot of crosses . I know for sure we were growing seedless in the 70s just pulling the males . The mid 70s the Grass Valley and Nevada City areas of N. California had some large seedless grows at least that’s where my roommate’s said they were buying it for resale . I started growing seedless Indica types for myself in 1977 N California . I spent a lot of time crawling through Black Berries and poison oak right next to a state park lol .Times have sure changed I can take a short drive and with my medical card I can buy clones of endless types or seed and grow right out in the open . And I still have long hair just a lot thinner .
The black is some dank purple bud for sure.
Where and who first grew sensimilia is a mystery that could go back to Oaxaca or northern California depending who you talk to. I would guess that certain people in Mexico learned it from the Moores. They brought alot of varieties of cannabis to mexico and hops has been grown in the same fashion sense the 11th centuary. I would definetly agree that rafa spread the idea to the cartels early on. Did the beatnik rebel hippie types and biker outlaws of the 1960’s and 70’s learn it from him or did they discover the technique on there own is hard to say. I can imagine it happening either way. There were people in mexico who had been farming cannabis for a very long time and could have easily discovered or been taught how to grow sensi. I could also see some college botany or biology student / lsd advocate turn on tune in drop out type of people figuring out and putting effort into how to make cannabis better. The same method in hops is commonly learned In college classes and anybody who was interested in growing weed could quickly connect the dots. Either way it’s awesome your family was there right at the beginning when few had the nerves or ability to grow this wonderfull plant. It was those pot pioneers that helped stabilize and rid landrace genetics of there undesirable traits bringing us the foundation strains that have created the many high qaulity strains of today.
The first sensi I remember was just called “red hair” and it seems like it came out of Florida. There was the Gainesville Green but I can’t remember when that showed up.
Man this is so interesting.
Brings back memories.
When i came back fro Nam in 71,i planted 4 seeds that i brought back from Nam.
2 came up.lol
I pkanted them 30 or so feet from my dafs coon dogs lot
.
Weeds grew up and camouflaged the plants…
One day a State Tropper pulled up and hollered across the creek to dad telli g him those marijuana plants were above the weeds and drove off…lol
My dad was a constable and knew the Tropper…lol
He did not know they were there and got really mad at me…they had so.e pretty nice flowets but was already hermied and full of seeds…i took if down and dried it in a friends atyic and we split it…lol
I have had so.e big grows in West va…
I uave grown ever since
That funny as shit @Bigun. I know you have some stories as well. The shit was always going down in the Appalachians. I was living in the mountains in east Tennessee in '73-'75 and even then lots of the old moonshiners started growing and selling pot because the younger crowd at the time all wanted pot, not liquor, ha.
I’ve been greeted by someone holding a shotgun on their porch more than once back then, while driving backwoods roads. You could go out to the hills and get you some smoke and moonshine all in the same place… Cocke County, Tennessee. Anybody that’s ever lived there knows exactly what I’m talking about.
Great times in the mountains back then, huh Bigun. Glad you made it back from Nam. I got my 1A card to go in '73 but they stopped the war before I had to leave. peace
My grandparents began growing weed in Missouri in the early 60s near Jefferson City they didn’t hide it as most people police included didn’t give it a second glance I don’t know what they were growing but I would think Mexican sativa’s at that time (pre Vietnam)
