You’ll fit right in then…cooking outside is the best, I love it…

I don’t have a fancy grill myself. I like them. I’m like you. Charcoal works for me. The secret with charcoal is not to use fluid. But if you do use fluid you need to let it sit for about 20 minutes. That’s how I was brought up. I try and use good lighter fluid and good charcoal. But don’t get me wrong I like wood chips. @BeeLady very nice. I had some stuff years ago. Seen a guy yesterday with something like that. @toastyjakes those firecrackers show look good. I had a dream about them last night. Plus I love bacon.

These work fairly for lighting briquettes or wood charcoal. Similar to a plumbing torch but on steroids. No lighter fluid required.

They can also be hooked up to larger propane tanks as opposed to the camping tanks, if you use it often.

I have one. Lol mine is a bit bigger. That’s the ticket. I got mine from Harbor freight hook it up to a 5 gallon propane tank. I use it for killing weeds and stuff. It is great to start a fire with.

Lol. I have a flame thrower. Almost. It’s used to burn weeds.

I have a little fire pit. Helps keep mosquitoes away.

@hemp totally agree mate :+1:, I don’t use fluid at all, I have a simple little charcoal chimney starter thing that I fill with charcoals and just sit it on a gas burner on high and in about 5min it begins to start really heating up I just wait until the coals near the top are sort of getting white and I know she’s ready and then just pour them in the weber&add more coals In.
I’d love one of these flame thrower jobs haha :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: but with my vision impairment I think it’s probably not the greatest idea

I’ll start some in one of those. With a few pieces of paper or sticks. I do agree with what you say. There’s a video where a guy burnt his boat up. I usually kill weeds. Is great for mold around your house like on your brick. You just run across it. It does get a little hot on your legs. For me it feels good because I have arthritis. That’s crazy how all of us are getting old and we have arthritis. Something needs to be replaced all the time.

@Hemp I hear you brother! & that’s a good idea for mould on bricks
And yes that’s the chimney coal starter I have, works a treat :ok_hand:

I just love the old Coleman camping stove. I have a couple myself. Takes me back to camping with my parents growing up.

I have a tiger torch, lights them coals up before I’m done about 3 inches of paper. Before with my little torch, it would take at least 3 inches of paper X 2.

Has anyone here ever cold smoke a Salmon filets? Or cold smoke at all…

Having a couple of those charcoal chimneys on hand is highly useful! If you are having a large/long cookout, you can have one chimney packed and ready to light when you need to add a bit more to the fire! And… No need for lighter fluid! Just a few pieces of scrap paper.

Obviously you dont use a lot of coals, what temperature should I be aiming for?

Yea… if I remember correctly it was around the same ambient temperature outside… about 85-90… I would try to stay around there. As much as you can offset your smoker box to keep heat away!

Cold smoked: Below 90
Hot smoked: Above 120

I’ve been thinking of trying a cold smoke but I don’t have a dedicated smoker. Although, something like this might work in a Weber or a Kamado:

Figure it won’t create too much heat by itself.
