Overgrow.com: Let's Talk About the Future

I also dislike the PM issue that @Cannabiscrusader mentioned, but did not realize i could edit title.

That would be my only gripe on forum features, im not difficult to please.

Nope, not what I was saying at all. partnering with someone who ships them is the same as Redbibble—secured pre-order. Just buy the equipment for Europe and North America. Run any money you make from overgrown through merch. sell the shirts for half of what they are now and still double your money. I don’t care either way just a thought. learn to screen. they must be cheaper than a grow light by now.

If there was a member who wanted a new project and wanted to start making merch, maybe that’s someone that @LemonadeJoe would want to partner with!

Some people want to make things as a side gig! Telling someone who has just said “the current side gig is a lot” to take on an additional side gig to help the first time-consuming side gig be successful doesn’t seem helpful.

Just the shipping is a massive hassle even if you had pre-made shirts magically arrive to his home.

Are there better options than redbubble? Quite probably! Are those options “LJ has to start making and shipping merch”? I feel like 30 seconds of consideration based on what has been posted on this thread rules that out.

One idea I had for revenue generation, though I’m not sure what the logistics might be:

All of these links that get posted to OG, especially ones to amazon, could you set up as an affiliate? I don’t recall noticing any tracking automatically added to links I post here, but that could probably be done.

Generally not a huge fan of such links, but most folks are pretty used to that kind, and if it helped keep the lights on, it might be worth considering. Just a thought, we’re all tracked on everything anyway.

If it was logistically possible to have it auto-added to the text of links, people could edit it back off if they desired, and for the folks who didn’t, maybe some money comes in.

Howdy @LemonadeJoe, it’s nice to learn more about your longtime history in the community. Massive respect!

The Icmag actual print magazines are legendary! I remember seeing them finally go out of stock on the Seed Boutique website a while back and thinking what a goof I was for never purchasing either of them to add to the collection. For a while they were basically giving them away. Many times had them in my cart only to remove them and instead use the funds towards seeds.

By chance, are the two issues available in high quality digital format? I’ve seen one of the issues for sale on eBay for a while but just haven’t really had much extra cash to put towards it. Before reading these comments of yours I was actually thinking of how awesome it would be if Overgrow had something similar. A physical format of some sorts as a reflection of the community. I’ve got some ideas ice been floating around in my head!

I think it’s great if you can transition to running Overgrow as your primary means of work. Wishing you well in those endeavors. Many blessings and much love

That’s a good idea!
It won’t generate an enormous sum, but definitely worth it.

Pz :v:t2:

You can change the number at the end of the url and go to different issues.

Yeah I was too. Did Gypsy ever frame his website from the beginning as something he was resurrecting for the people , only to turn around and start complaining that he needed the members to pay his salary ? No, he ran it like a business from day 1 but never put the burden of the cost on its members.

Even after the seedbank went downhill and he had his legal troubles. Did he ever suggest that his members need to step it up financially ?

I’m sure people want the best user friendly website possible. I was only pointing out that xenforo has many built in features as well as addons that don’t require development. They don’t even come at a huge expense either.

This website is the best user friendly website available for cannabis.

Name one forum in the past 20 years besides this one, that wasn’t ultimately ruined by greed ?
I’m not meaning for any of this to be taken disrespectfully but I’m serious. I’ve been on just about every forum since the original OG. Many were well managed but ultimately, profits were out over the well being of the community.

Why couldn’t you just use something like xenforo ?

That shit was ok in 2001.

Xenforo aka vBulletin.

Pedro’s, aka xbt music. It’s a serious, very strictly invite only P2P music trading site. The admin is a complete asshat that pretty much everyone hates. It’s also arguably the most exclusive trading site anywhere.

*Ahem*… Sir, such a site would be quite illegal.

How does one obtain an invite? :joy:

(Joking, honestly I shouldn’t spend even more time online than I already do!)

Yes it is. It’s hosted on it’s own server in Poland.

The only way to get an invite is to know a member who is in good standing. Not all members have standing to make invitations. Making it even more difficult is the fact that if one invites someone who gets banned, the invitor may also get banned. Also, only self-ripped uploads.

There is too much to unpack there but I would question your definition of greed. Making websites or open forums like we have here is non trivial. Sure the cost of hosting isn’t wild. Sure you could spin up a WordPress site in an afternoon. Sure sure sure, but have you?

Without outting myself too much I work in a similar space and HAVE made such things that support daily user counts in the low thousands. It’s wildly more effort than you’d imagine. Most of the bits that take up the most time and effort are essentially invisible to the user. Migrating from one platform version to another is a huge pain in the ass.

As of today I see no greed here. Let’s not toss that word around lightly

I can see we have different opinions on what a community is,

A community cannot run without business, nothing in this world is free, someone down the line payed our way. Everyone in a community shares responsibilities so everything can run smoothly.

If you were part of a commuinty and lets say worked in that community you would like to be compinsated for your time. Correct?

Every website on the internet is costing someone, somewhere cold hard cash. And is also paying someone behind the scene to make sure that things work everyday.

and that is okay you are entitled to your opinion, I guess I just interprited what LJ wrote differently than you did. I see a husband and a father that love this commuinty but has a responsibility to his family before OG and that the way it should be. So if we can help keep OG moving forward with the cost of a cup of coffee a month and give him some much needed time with family. Sounds like a worth wild cause time me.

Stay up

Not even the same thing. The xenforo software I bought 8 years ago was more user friendly that this site is today and was plug and play.

Yes I have. I had a small forum using xenforo. Was also apart of a bigger one that we all pitched in for. No one needed to pay someone full time to run it.

100% not true. We had one for a few years and it was member funded.
