You don’t seem to understand that it’s not a problem of which software against another. You’ve been described parts of the many tasks it takes to maintain correctly a well used forum. It takes a lot of times, whatever software you use.
Now sure you can host a small forum without much care (not just at your own risk though). But a big one, that is secure, fast and maintained enough, asks for a lot of work.
I find you’re starting to disrupt this thread by taking a lot of room with a question you seem the only one to take that way. Maybe you should host your own xenforo to discuss that further?

The forum is not changing the underlying platform to xenforo, phpbbs, vBulletin, whatever. LJs response was thorough and explanatory with an eye towards the future.

Me replying to all the people tagging me in disagreement is disruption ? Sounds like you are trying to implore the typical cancel culture tactic to get everyone to jump on me instead of just letting me have my own opinion. Why does it bother any of you that I said something that was different than the status quo

Ok, so now that everyone knows very well you disagree (and a bit more about you), let’s move on.

Brother I just gave my 2 cents that’s all. It’s ok to think differently

It was a bit more expensive than that in term of power, bandwidth, storage, etc…

Pretty sure just covering operating costs are not the issue. See the 1st post

Hey man I do. I personally think it’s the best forum software available.

I’m big on transparency. Id be more inclined to donate with a yearly monetary goal in mind. This whole thing feels very “trust me bro we need more money.”
I don’t know how feasible it is, but it would be really cool to see a counter that shows $XX.xx raised out of $XXXX.xx

Maybe a percentage only. Hey we are 50 % to our current goal. Hey we are now running at 61 % self sustenance.

Yeah this is true. At the end of the day, it’s not really my business on what @LemonadeJoe wants to pay himself. I hope it’s a million dollars. But it would definitely be cool to see some sort of progress counter so it doesn’t feel so much like throwing money into a black hole.

Compared to the other places we throw our money, im really solid on OG. It is the path to the future, why not pave it ?

Hahaha. I bought a 20oz Dr Pepper from 711 for $3 today. I felt like a real asshole in the moment, so $3 a month for this endless enjoyment is a no brainer.

How about this. The ability to post images is a locked feature. Seed and clone trading is a locked feature. A higher dollar amount allows you to post images larger than 700k or what ever it is.
Im pretty sure I read some one else make mention of being able to anonymously sponsor some one that might be on a fixed income and maybe the extra $3 or $20 a month or what ever it susses out too is a big deal.
I feel like there are a ton of options to drive financial engagement from members and they would be happy to pay in the process.

No need to limit services for those who cant , or choose not to support. Thats not our way. We have many high level members , they will make this right. Frankly im surprised how few people are participating.

I thought the same thing when telling everyone I would support when I got my money right as I’m stuffing my face. Most of us are blessed beyond belief

I like the way certain things are currently “locked” behind participation instead of a paywall. Trading Post, Giveaways, etc being unlocked after TL2 encourages people to interact in a way that a monthly fee just wouldn’t IMO.

I would love to see a time where we have a fund set up in advance, where when bad things happened to members need help or a large donation could be made to charity using the OG name. I don’t know what LJ vision is but there is a lot of great people here that could make a change in more than just OG.
could you imagine OG cutting a check for $100,000 to st jude, and what that would do for the cannabis community.

Like a “drought fund” instead of a rainy day fund?
