Jacks site says calcium nitrate last. Thats what Ive been doing.
I thought concentrated calcium had to be mixed in Rez first ( with plain tap ) as if phosphate sulfate or citrate in Rez first , then ca when added goes thick and gel like , not mixing well
Im only going by what they say for their 321 nutes. It actually says its very important to mix the 5 12 26 then the Epsom salt and then the cal nit. It all dissolves when I mix them.
I may have dreamt that lol maybe it’s just some ca products idk if it all dissolves well then it’s all good
Out of curiosity do they say why that particular order , and why it must be ?
No at least not that I’ve seen, but they say its important. Sorry all I can tell you.
I Avoid all issues by mixing everything separately
Then mix together
Thanks everyone for there input

I saw some home hacks on calcium
For slow release this gardener suggested chalk
It’s basically all calcium and if pushed into the soil will melt slowly and release ( no N)
So if I add it to the promix when setting them up in the path of the roots
In the lower half of the Octopots the mix is wet at all times so it will dissolve
Also egg shells crushed then mix with 2 tablespoons of vinegar it will dissolve the egg shells then just add water
I wouldn’t add this to my res but any soil application should work in a pinch and no N
I may try the chalk
Mrs wages pickling lime…
2 tablespoons in a gallon of water, mix well and let it settle. Siphon off clear water it will be near 400ppm calcium. Add more water to what settled and repeat 3 or 4 times before you need 2 more tablespoons of pickling lime.
An old reef tank trick called kalkwasser… or German for calcium water
Great hack my friend thanks @Nagel420 how long can you store it
For the most part, indefinitely AFAIK. The pickling lime will precipitate out and settle causing a slurry (thats super high in alk / ca, so leave that be). And remember, pickling lime is used to preserve your veggies in the pickling process…
The clear water you siphon will be super-charged with calcium, pretty much the maximum amount of calcium that water can hold (I wanna say that tops out at 440ppm)
Its too bad we can’t use a Calcium Reactor to maintain Ca. Problem is it requires a pH of over 8.0 to work to dissolve the aragonite (coral rubble), in conjunction with a supply of CO2. That would also be a nice addition to the grow area, the off-gassed CO2.
I still have a calcium reactor from my reef tank days… need a new regulator / solenoid though. I’d be curious how it works at a 6.0-6.5 pH… Don’t think it would do very well, but did Edison say that with the first 200 filaments he tried when making the lightbulb?
Pic at light out first night of 12/12. Let the games begin in the main tent
Babies from my seed run testers will stay small and lollipoped.
Small tent
I’ll let this one veg for maybe 4 weeks I’ll most likely mainline her as well
Your like a machine paps that never rests , banging them grows out , great work : )
Thanks fish I can’t stop it’s in the blood all I want to do is crack seeds lol
Soon I will try those landrace of India seeds .
I may start with the Meghalaya ( is said to be a strong one ) not sure how long she’ll take so she’ll go in the small tent by herself next run never ran landrace before so this could be interesting
Deffinately lookin forward to watching that : )
Smoked up thoughts oh the day
I recently read an article and growweedeasy.com on pH I’ve always thought that Ideal ph should be good between 5.8 /6.2
But still there’s some problems although minor ,I believe that these issues are still pH related
The article stated should be no lower then 6 to 6.5
Now with the larger plants in the Octopots at 6 to 6.3 no issues at all
But the little ones in small pots (,promix of course )
Hate it : 6.3 ph at 400 ppm of jacks 20/20/20
So my conclusion is small ones like there ph at 5.8 to 6
Now Since they’re just about three weeks old maybe 400 ppm is too strong ?
But at this age they should be able to take 400 ppms
I would think
Interesting. Question about Promix HP and Octopots. When you use the HP in the Octos do you add more perlite or use it as is?
I’m caught back up. I recently changed my setting for my home page to be back on “Latest” instead of unread and I realized I have missed a ton of things over the past year lol. I must have read too quickly but what happened to the nyc sour? No females? I grew it out awhile ago was a pretty massive plant that looked like ECSD but the smell reminded me of a mix between 5 alive and mop cleaner I liked it.
The people on pro mix give a pretty wide range but it usually stops at 6.2 on the higher end as far as I’ve seen. Because of micronutrient availability apparently. I don’t know about the other ones but in the HP (one I use) there’s supposed to be lime or some kind of buffer already added to it that helps keep the pH in the proper range but I’ve never been sure how much it works. Maybe it’s not as effective in smaller pots? The 20/20/20 one also has a bit of ammoniacal nitrogen with the possibility of bringing down pH. Maybe it’s worse in smaller pots also.
I still get deficiencies with the 321 during flowering because of the high power leds. I usually run it at 1.25 strength and I’ve seen people run it even higher than that (with added co2 though).
I’ve fed full strength 321 from start during veg with little to no issues.
Looking good paps! Can’t wait to see these mainlined plants grow up!
I usually shoot for 6.0 with Jack’s 321.
This should be a good range even for the bigger plants.
I seriously doubt it, I feed full strength Jack’s 321 recipe from seedlings to harvest. I’m pretty sure it’s around 1.5 EC or so, my pen died.
