@slain ive seen ones like in your second picture (the big tall type) years ago being grown in png. Those look excellent. Did you manage to try much of these, if so did they turn out any good please. Thanks.

Hey mate, Yeah the PNG was pretty common shwag around the north, I was just lucky to get to know some old timers still growing the skinny leaf and so I got to wander through a big patch picking for seeds lol. Rare as rocking horse shit to find them these days so I was fairly stoked. These will probably have been in oz for decades so I expect them to be a bit different to the originals, but by the same token they are probably not as rough around the edges.

Yeah I smoked a fuckton of it if I’m honest lol… it’s amazing smoke, super clean and energetic and it’s got a really tropical fruit/almost but not quite pineapple smell and taste. Not as earthy/cocoa as the other SE Asian types I have… but no paranoia or edginess and no burnout. Some of my favourite smoke.

That sounds familiar to what a couple of people have said to me before, that tropical type. Sounds good, well it must be if its one of your favourites. Thanks @slain

Im not sure auto flower is the correct term to use on the described plants ,

maybe if we went through a list of questions to diagnose the trait
we could better label it ??

for instance , do these plants show sex at 18 hours only ,
or will they go through their full flowering cycle and finish even with days that long??

can the plants be revegged
i had some zamals do something that sounds similar to the description used in this thread ,
i just assumed it was heavy pre flower , because they didnt go any further into flower in the long days they were under , just threw out a bunch of pistils and kept growing ,
is that the case with these plants ??
could it simply be said to be heavy pre flower ??

the other thing i think its important talk about is ,
if they are landrace plants , where have they come from , wht is their origin ??

if we were to look into the history of cannabis there , i think some hemp was grown in the early 1900 s and that perhaps aussies going there in the second world war took some stuff with them too ,
likely thai , but i think its a good idea to do a little research in order to know the origins of the weed from there … i have spoken at length with a chap who did some study with cannabis in png , ill try to find it and put it up here if anyone is interested …
i have a little background with png myself too , i lived there a few years when i was a boy and i went to school there, i have fond memories of it , we used to sail around the islands a lot on weekends , and the school i went to was just across the road from the beach , so i was at the beach every day , looking at all the coral and creatures amongst it at low tide every afternoon …

, sometimes on my way to asia i fly air niugini and they stop in Port Moresby along the way , i was there a few weeks ago , just at the airport and a lot longer than i wanted to be due to delays , lol …
there is a thread on icmag where that study i mentioned is copied too , but ill look through my emails to find what the guy sent me too when i get a chance …

Hi Wally
We discussed ad nauseam how tropical strains can autoflower from stress when first brought indoors. Interestingly, a grower named CTG grew out some of these seeds and they did indeed flower under 24 hour lighting.

Maybe read this thread and get caught up because the origin of these PNG is in the thread.

Here’s a quote from a Spanish Breeder of sativas concerning the PNG semi-AF pheno: "they tend to autoflower once they are sexually mature and they feel rootbound in small pots indoors, even with long photoperiods, i like to call these type of strains semi autoflowering, as they are not fully autoflowering since clones can be kept indoors for long term (not without trouble) but they show some kind of autoflowering tendencies under the mentioned conditions.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoy the PNG that I shipped to you all!

I have some Maruf Kandahar Black pollen from Indian Landrace Team and plan on dusting a PNG.
Also, PNG pollen will be hitting an ACE Seeds Zamaldelica x Kali China, AK Bean Brains Northern Lights #5, and Amnesia from Seedsman. Should be an interesting hybrid spring.

im sure being out of the natural climate causes them to behave differently ,
so its not really a natural thing , so therefore , not really a trait imo ,
no where in the tropics can those plants get 18 hr days ,
i think this affects the flowering day length too ,
judging by what i see in the tropics vs what we see from folks growing the same plants indoors,
do you have a link to this ctg grow?
did the plant flower fully and finish normally under the 24 hour schedule ??

im just trying to make sure traits are not being mislabelled because it causes confusion,
i remember when autos first came on the scene and describing my short day scenario to folks , they were recommending auto varieties for me because of my shorter days,
its exactly not what i needed because photoperiod hybrids tend to act like autos a bit in the tropics as far as flowering goes , they can flower on the longest days , and shorter days they produce just a miniature plant often ,
but to label them autos would not be correct just because of how they acted in my climate ,
one of my friends does it and im always correcting him and telling him auto plants are a different kettle of fish all together …
i dunno who has the png u sent , we have some between a few of us , but they are not from your stock…
i grew png gold as a lad and was very happy with the results ,
i wish i had those same seeds still …

If you had read this thread you would have know what region this PNG came from, who was gifted PNG, what caused one of them to AF, why AF was in quotations, what forum CTG is on and other info. But it looks like you just wanna bloviate your way around this thread like a pompous forum prick. Let’s move on Wally because we’re repeating info that was addressed two years ago.
Plenty of fun PNG grows and hybrids to look forward to!

ps Are you duck74 from another forum?

I read the whole thread and I’m aware of where the seeds were collected
I was referring to origins of weed in png, not where theses seeds were collected,.
Knowing origins can be helpful…

Im always keen to use correct terminology that’s all, too much incorrect terminology is used on cannabis forums so if we can I think we should use the right ones… hence my reasoning for addressing this semi auto and auto labelling,
As I mentioned it could be explained more correctly as heavy pre flower …

So are you duck74 from another forum??

Y or N

Do you believe your opinion of “heavy preflowering” is more correct than breeders that call this characteristic stress induced “semi auto flowering?”
If that’s the case, you know what they say about opinions.

No im not duck 74
Im wallyduck, you know him right, ?
Remember ducksfoot?

Yes I believe that would be correct terminology because semi auto flowering isn’t even a thing

I recognize duck74 from another forum. Thought you two might be the same guy.
I don’t remember a ducksfoot or a wallyduck.
I do remember Worcestershire_Farms aka Diggy Soze
So some breeders have the opinion and call this behavior semi autoflowering and you call it heavy flowering.
Perfect! Sounds good to me.
Let’s get back on track to the current PNG grow and its hybrids!
Hopefully I get a cat piss pheno again. That was good shit. I mean piss. haha
