I think the mildew in general takes a shit on your plants. Hurts their productivity overall! I read that in studies and it aligns with the things I saw on the pumpkins that got infested VS the ones that were clean. All grown on the same farm lol! Hey that’s got to be startling to some people. The fact I could grow infested and clean crops on the same farm just meters apart.
Joe, you put up a paper with a list of plants effected, name of mildew, and something else. I thought I saved it, but I think the pm ate it, lol!
Could I trouble you for a replay?
here’s a really good primer on powdery mildew.
Thanks Joe! That’s the one… I book marked it twice, lol!
I have a pm problem with my butternut and gem squash…but on my cannabis plants nothing, they are growing in the same area in my yard…So I’m assuming that my plants are resistant to the mildew.
They aren’t effected by the same tribe of pm, I believe.
@3Deee They are different types of mildew that affect squash and cannabis. The species of mildew are host specific, they only grow on the plant they have evolved to infest.
Definitely correct!
LOL thats an edge made from an Ancient Roman sword. Sulphur use is as old as cuts lol.
naw, the sulfur isn’t the cutting edge, but actually eradicating mildew outside is!
Yeah, sorry, that struck me as funny…I didn’t actually ever use it indoors, when I was a wee lad helping my Dad in the garden. But immediately remembered it when I had a go round with pm 6-7 years ago…oh and last week LOL Seems safer as wetteble than in powder dust or a burner type thing (which gives me the creeps, lol) I don’t really get much residual odour after things dry, and haven’t detected it when smoking plants treated in veg, both bonuses. Still careful when mixing it and wash thoroughly after. Wife is allergic to Sulpha drugs, so another reason to keep reading and learning about other options and techniques like yours, of course.
Actually you know what was funny though? When I initially told people sulfur would get rid of the mildew, there was a chorus of shouting about how 2 treatments could never get rid of mildew because of personal incredulity. I told 'em one real careful application could do it, as well. heh heh, everyone except the pros acted like it was a “new idea” they never heard of. I mean, that’s funny but also ha ha funny? Yah I don’t vaporize the sulfur due to the fact it gets everywhere. It’s way easier to clean up a smaller mess made by targeted spraying. Outside I just avoided spraying the vegetables, but during application there weren’t any pumpkins started only cucmbers. I attack early so there are no veggies around, that way nobody eats that shit lol! I would never suggest eating or smoking it. Nasty!
Yeah, wash them veggies and my bud after harvest LOL Washing bud another seemingly weird practice…then I remember…rain LOL.
A few days ago, I thought I saw patches on the plants I sprayed… twice.
Of course I couldn’t find my handy dandy UV flashlight, I think some gang of fungi got it
Got one today, and… it was sulfur, lol!
26 days and counting… a record
Me waking from a fungal attack nightmare and sleepwalking to growroom at 3 am
…sees hard water spot masquerading as PM on leaf
then frantically mixes potion with essential oils garlic and alcohol. Decide to check with mini microscope.
Then Me… swears, says fuck it, chugs mix instead and goes back to bed.
lol, yah I call that hyper vigilance. There are definitely lots of crazy things that look like mildew! I mean to the human eye, but they are white molds or mineral stains.
Have you done the second dose @HorseBadorites? How are you liking the uv flashlight to find the mildew colonies? It was a brilliant idea proposed by @schmarmpit.
Yep, I did the 2nd exactly 2 weeks after the first… trying to follow protocol, lol!
I’ve had a UV mold spotter flashlight for a couple of years… as long as I’ve had pm, come to think of it… just can’t find it!
This new one is much bigger and brighter, and rechargeable. I’m thinking of hiring out for murder investigations, and pet stain spotting!
I’m definitely getting one for my garden hijinks. Can you see me out there at night shining it around looking for the colonies? ohh my But on the other hand it’s really good for people who want to find that last bit of mildew colony. Shit glows at night under ultra violet like any other nasty fungus. Makes it easy to spot eh? At night you can creep on it like a ninja with your ultra violet flashlight, planning your revenge on the parasite.
If you want to get really crazy, get one of these.
I hope I don’t have to use mine anymore!
That thing is f-ing bright!
I think what I’ll do as one of the things, right. I’ll use the ultra violet flashlight and I’ll show the immediate effects of spraying whatever the fuck on the mildew colony. I have neem oil, peroxide, sulfuric acid and regular sulfur water. I have been thinking about a sodium bicarbonate one as well. Just so everyone can really see the effect. I’ll douse the colony under the microscope and in real life outside. I’m hoping the mildew will be on the peas again, but the location of the peas has changed since the infestation, so I’m not sure about that. I’ll be able to find a colony though, don’t worry about that. I can even import one from the neighbors if I can’t find one here.
