Pua Mana 'Ohana Seedbank

oh, you found the pua mana ohana thread here. yerks! it’s an interesting read through, although if you’re just interested in weed and seeds, it’s not gonna be found in this thread. there is some out there drama though, but it’s since been tamped down.

thanks for providing your perspective @Sodapop. i hope this doesn’t start another flare up of wild back-and-forth on this seedbank.

If it does, I’m sorry to the community and I’ll take all the flack for starting it up again. I myself have looked at the seedbank tons and just have never felt confident putting in a purchase.

I ran a few of their products. They were nice, but I never felt they were from the islands.
I had bought island weed once. It came to me sealed up in a pineapple can, labeled and all.
I got it from a friend in Dolton Ill. around 1980 81 or so. He had a friend at Dole.
Paying $250.00 is todays world is nothing, in 1980, a freaking fortune.

Pau’s work does not live up to that even remotely.
I can not really complain about the gear I got, except the Kona Gold, was just rubbish, working 3 beans at a time, none cracked. I told them about it, and got sent another grip, but they were shit to.

MW was ok, I’ll see if I can find some pics.
98Aloha was very nice gear.

I’m happy to see you got something out of it. It’s sad hearing that especially since they vulture off the culture a lot. Idk if they’re Hawaiians but as a native Hawaiian born and raised on homestead kine, it’s a shame they aren’t doing better.

can you give us any perspective on what you’ve found to be the best hawaiian bud you’ve been able to get your hands on?

I’ve only ever got my hands on Hawai’i bud from people not from here who have moved away early before the days of Green Harvest. I’m too young to have experienced but during the 80’s and 90’s in response to the drug epidemic our HPD and state feds cracked down hard on Marijuana instead of say ice, coke or heroine. Lots of our older genetics like true Kauai Electric, Puna Buddah, Duckfoot, the blood, and Hawaiian 78 are hard to source. 808 says he has an original Krippy and has crosses with Hawaiian Heritage strains but that’s only his word. I myself have a hard time finding actual Hawaiian genetics from the old days and so far it’s only been Jimmy Spliff’s Kona Duckfoot which was hosted by Ke Ano Kokua seeds. If I had to recommend breeders out of here right now it would be Moloka’i seed co and hawaiiangrasshoppergenetics. Dark Heart Nursery also hosts the Hawai’i seed company but I also don’t know the credibility of those genetics.

hey, thanks for sharing your experience @Sodapop. it sounds like some shit went down in hawaii and people went running to the hills. that’s too bad, but it does seem like legalization is sweeping the nation and the globe as well. so hopefully in a few more years weed will be as accepted as alcohol. then maybe the breeders and growers who managed to sneak away with prized genetics can come out of the shadows and we can really get the weed party started! one can dream.

i haven’t heard of these companies before (not that i’m some old wizened grower or anything). can you share any other thoughts or information on why you recommend them? have you grown anything of theirs out or perhaps you appreciate how they do business?

I recommend them both because they function and are solid growers and breeders as well as actually owned by Native Hawaiians, there is a difference between locals and the Native population, grasshoppergenetics is working towards establishing some really nice genes and is a solid guy who believes in reasonable prices for cannabis and that it should be available for everyone! I haven’t met the Pakalolo seeds crew who are based out of Moloka’i personally but outside of 808 they’re one of the beloved companies by locals. Right now they’re main plants available are all G13 crosses that I’ve been able to sample and love the taste of. Their packs come at $60 a piece but have a high viability rate. I’ll drop both links here

I have 3 of grasshoppers genetics, I sent him $60 and he sent me about 118 seeds in total. I think he mostly did that as a favor to me but that’s the type of solid guy he is. I plan to include all 3 in not only my future growing but breeding both to keep the OG genetics and cross.

That describes my experience with growing the Pua Mana Ohana Maui Wowie. It was ok… ho hum.

Hey Sodapop, thank you for the links, and your words.
I already have my beans ready for this year, so the garden calendar is full, for a bit. I will be looking real hard at these outlets to run something they have.
I kind of feel bad about supporting Pua, as I now know, it was just a FOMO scheme, for those of us seeking Hawaiian genetics. I can not say, I got nothing, and I got what I ordered, eventually.

I’ve grown out a few strains from Pua Mana.

The Puna Buddaz was freaking delicious, as was their Hix5.

I had some germ issues with their white elephant strain, which they said they’d replace but never did.

I’ve heard great things about their GDP Electric.

Pua is unable to reproduce white elephant anymore. I plan on sending him some fem beans from my keeper eventually.

Okay, now I truly am confused after checking your profile…lol

He’s going to get his Hawaiian genetics from Missouri?

I bought genetics from Pua, kept in contact and sent him Pics of white elephant. It was earlier this year he told me he could no longer reproduce white elephant, when asking permission to reproduce and to freely give away white elephant S1s.

I think that means someone there is sending beans and no matter what I say that means someone is doing the work. I don’t think they’re bad, I just have no idea if they can actually back up their claims.
