If all my lights are at full power, it ends up being about 920 watts including the supplemental lighting. I use an LED controller, so it ramps the lights up and down to simulate sunrise/sunset. And in veg, I only run them at 70% power and bump it to 100% when I flip. This keeps the DLI similar.

I’ve read about folks that build a controller that has a multi-point sensors all aimed up at the sky mapping the luminescence.
This means that the lights in their tents waver as if there is cloud cover!!! If it’s overcast it’s dull. It was a build for an arts installation he decided to then apply to growing plants as the idea was to match what was happening outside exactly!

This controller has a similar function, but it works off of local weather data. I have never tried using that feature, but thought it would be interesting interesting if I was going to transition the plants for outdoor growth.
Honestly I’ve been using it so long, I don’t even k own if there is much of a benefit other than saving a few dollars on the electric bill. It does allow me to run my far red for 15 minutes before lights on and fifteen minutes after lights out.

I know I few folks with insane tanks and yes lighting is indeed one of their many high costs lol
They sure are cool to look at though. I have had a few good size aquariums over the years but nothing crazy or high tech.
