Return of the Husky Hut

An Inkbird controller. I need to figure out a way of enclosing it better to make sure the water stays sterile. I think that might have been an issue with the last vegging plants that I culled.

I would also like to use distilled water to prevent a bunch of calcium chalk, but it would go through like 2 gallons a day and I don’t want to hook up my RO system / buy expensive filters just for a humidifier.

What temperature is your water?

The first box is the soil sensor and the second is the environment. Notice the 40% rh. I just gave them a good soaking with a lower EC to bring down the PWEC number. Which is the reading that takes the medium into account.

The room temp was lower, but it creeps up. It’s hard to give them enough light / heat without triggering my exhaust that sucks out the humidity.

So yeah. I need a humidifier in the winter.

I put the humidifier into the tent, and lowered the lights to be able to turn them down to keep the heat at bay. Hopefully I can maintain this until the flip.

After adding a humidifier along with doing a bunch of sensor and fan tweaking, I think I finally got my humidity situation under control. It’s still in flux, but this is promising data.

I worked hard today. I cut up and added coco mat strips to the trays, added panda film splash guards, chopped up a bunch of small cubes, filled the trays with them, and then added the lids. I’ll hook up the watering tubes tomorrow.

The plants are looking hella sad, but I have faith that they will revive and start branching out in a couple of days. I can see that their roots are exploring the bigger blocks, so that’s good. I’m waiting for them to “catch.”

I like this setup though. I wish I would have started using the coco mats sooner. I’ve had a huge roll for like 2 years and finally opened it up today. It’s hard to cut though.

Anyways. I’ll update on the plants in a couple days.

Your plants are looking excellent!

That’s kind of you to say, but they definitely aren’t thriving. They aren’t deep into the danger zone either, so they’ll pull out.

As a fellow rockwool grower who’s babying seedlings, I know the feeling, but I see where they’re going, and they’re priming themselves for explosive growth.

Today is our one year anniversary together.

They’ve become very thirsty and started to perk up a little. I think I’ve sorted out the environmental issues and am getting a handle of the watering data. The roots are still digging around down there.

I’ve also started their automated waterings.

It’s hard to tell, but the plants are perking up.

Continuing to improve. This little one had root rot so I pulled it. It’s the only one that has stayed stunted. I’m going to give them a couple more days and then I’ll top them and lower the scrog nets. I’ll flip them to flower about a week later.

They were looking a lot better today, so I topped them.

I think I’m getting the hang of crop steering. I wish my watering system had more options for feedings. Right now in spritzing them every 30 minutes with 200ml until the evening, then I’m watering them once every 4 hours. I’m watching the drybacks during the night and seeing a Nike Swoosh with the EC lowering and then swinging back up once the rockwool’s moisture level dips low enough. I can’t tell I wasn’t feeding them enough because of how fast they are eating up the nutrients.

Amazing the grow tech, confusing to an old manure farmer. Lol

Same pretty much. I hand watered 3 or 5 gallon pots of coco once a day for years. I didn’t even have a fancy EC meter, I just used crappy PPM pens. I still have to convert the numbers to know the exact EC.

I don’t know much about soil aside from what I learned from the residential organic / mathematics / hamburger / stinkbug / titty expert over at rui.

Have you ever seen a tittied stink bug?
