Shipping Cuttings

Is it practical or safe to ship cuttings by mail?

I do not believe it is legal to ship across state lines within the US as of yet.

Not legal, no. But practical and safe, yeah, I guess so.
There is always the chance of importing bugs and pathogens that didn’t exist in your area before so it’s usually not encouraged, even for legal plants.

At the end of the day, you have to weigh the risks to the people around you as well. How far away, and how different is the environment where the clones are coming from?
Are you living in an area with a large farming population? If yes, are there large monocultures? Most farms run the same few cultivars across vast plots of land, and you could unintentionally introduce something they have no resistance against.

Holy shit! Dont think I’ll be doing that! Thanks for the perspective. Good stuff. Besides, far be it from me to do anything illegal! :sunglasses:

Even if you cut the fan leaves to resemble something else, would it survivor shipment or a shipping delay?

Reminds me of a story I read on icmag, where a dude literally kept his bonsai mom with him just in plain view, and daily snipped the leaves to resemble a houseplant, was very small, 3-4”

yes they will survive no problem, have even seen unrooted cuttings in a 500ml coke bottle with a bit of water survive 3+ days without light… just send 5 cuttings and hope 1 lives… now about the cold weather i’m not certain… @Swampthing has more experience sending clones

Man are those Salvia divinorum? pass me some pleeeease

Very true. And some states like California have very strict laws about important any plant matter. They must be soil free, so bare root. They have a ton of other laws about plant matter, but a lot of it is to stop invasive specious viruses bugs and animals from getting in through the mail system. Its illegal so, i dont condone it. But im sure it would ve really easy to do it(if its ever legal) with 24 hour overnight mail and wet paper towels around the roots, or maybe in a red dixie cup taped all up with another covering it for protection.Possible heat pack depending on shipping location and time of year.

I didnt see the picture above, awesome!

That is how we lost ALL the ash trees in our area. People where told not to transport fire wood. But, they did and now there are no ash left. If we get the white pine fungus, I will be living in the open instead of woods. :frowning:

Also a problem in the state i live in. Also, mill foil on boats taken from pond to pond and lake to lake.

But yeah, invasive bugs are a large problem .Japanese Beatles and emerald Beatles. Winter moths populations have exploded. Its nuts seeing all these white moths flying around in december when its about to snow
