Show Me Your Numbers!

I enjoy the growing aspect of this hobby as much as anyone. However, I also really like spreadsheets and tracking numbers for my grows. It’s especially rewarding to see how much less I can produce my medicine for than what it’s being sold for commercially. That being said, below are my numbers and if anyone else is doing something similar, I’d love to see yours!

Grow Cost
Grow # # Plants Elec. Cost Material Cost Seed Cost Total Cost Yield (g) $/g $/oz
1 2 $66.72 $315.18 $0.00 $381.90 93.5 $4.08 $114.37
2 2 $80.98 $5.99 $0.00 $86.97 228.81 $0.38 $10.64
3 2 $101.37 $300.49 $0.00 $401.86 449.99 $0.89 $25.01
4 2 $96.04 $20.00 $0.00 $116.04 272.46 $0.43 $11.92
TOTAL $986.77 1044.76 $0.94 $26.45

As a note, in my area prices are, on average, $12.57/g ($351.96/oz).

A few additional notes on my numbers.

First, the material costs. The first grow contains my initial set up costs (tent, fan, etc.) and a DIY off-the-shelf LED bulb light. That was in place for the first two grows until a flooded basement took out everything. Thankfully insurance covered replacements for everything, but I also decided to upgrade my light, hence the large material cost for the third grow.

Electricity costs are somewhat conservative in that I use the full rating for the fan and light and don’t reduce that if I’m operating at a reduced percentage (rarely do with the light, often do with the fan).

Finally, seed cost is $0 as I’ve been fortunate enough to get a lot of free seeds from Seeds for Vets.

Also, I do not factor in watering costs as water is so inexpensive (0.004 cents/gallon) that it wouldn’t impact the results at all.

I did the math once and accounted for depreciation of equipment also. I figured my labour is free. I also included seed costs even though they tend to be free.

Each grow costs me $225 with a low acceptable yield of 300g is less than a dollar a gram.

For the price of a cup of coffee a day…

I’m so fked up already doing that math would drive me insane

Either my costs are negative, or it’s too complicated to figure out; depends whether I account for my initial investment in solar panels and depreciation thereof. My electric bill is about $3/month and I sell renewable energy credits for ~$2500/year, but the panels cost $35k after taking into account tax credits - which I also can’t fully take into account because I haven’t been able to use the whole credit 6 years later.

Trying to do the math… uh, yeah. :exploding_head: Alpaca bowl?

“Hey this guy has alpaca money!”

I love the idea of solar offsetting my grow. But the initial outlay is a bit of a kick in the ass.

Love the spread sheet.

Wow! Went from 93.5 g to 449.99 g. That is quite impressive.

Do you have pictures of the grows you could share?

We love cannaporn here at the OG!
Plus great pics always seem to get a bunch of :green_heart:

Yep, have some pics of past grows which I’m slowly posting in “throwback” diary threads. My first being here: My First (Redneck) Grow

Gearing up for a big autumn grow (have to wait until after the summer as I have a few vacations planned) and will definitely be creating a grow diary for that!

I saw your post yesterday but unfortunately was out of likes.

I would imagine that going from 93.5 g to 449.99 g’s was a great achievement and would have definitely cemented my interest in growing as well…

I love the trash can setup. I used to hide stuff in the trash can as a kid as my parents never once looked in there to find out what I was up to. Of course, all the wires and such might have given you away back then.

If you are are ever needing or just plain want some more seeds shoot me a PM and I will get them out to you!

After all I am here to overgrow the world :call_me_hand:

I truly appreciate the offer. At this point I’m beginning to look at doing a seed run this fall. Other than that, I’d always be up for potentially trading seeds. I have some good strains, but still need to grow a bunch of them out.
