Also the mulch I am using in the beds is from one of their barley straw blue oyster mushroom logs. My log came super loaded with fungus and is actually growing mushrooms out the side of it right now even after I took some out to put a thin layer of mulch down. Their is also Trichoderma starting to form on the log. Should make a pretty nice passive fungal inoculant from watering it in a few times so I will also add some mulch for flowering for the fungal assistance. The stray was pretty moist and breaking down/matting down since I have had it around for a while since I got it, but ill just have to be mindful using it.
I like some of their stuff for sure. I’ll probably grab a few things from them for the next venture. I saw a mushroom btw about a foot tall today along a ditch line.I’m not sure if that’s normal or not for people but it was crazy for my parts. I’ll def grab some of that for sure! Maybe some compost teas for the soil/roots?
How long will that stuff last anyhow?
@OGSince03 Ya there are some large growing fungus that’s for sure heh. I will be making some compost, sprouted seed and fungal dominant teas for these beds. I am not sure how long the log is supposed to last, I have had it around for months before I busted into it and it just kept growing more fungus in the log lol. For me mainly buying it for mulching purposes, I think its a little to far along with the fungal activity because its not as easy to use compared to other mulch or less fungal dominant mulch. But that being said, I am happy it is how it is because I get to mess around with it a little differently and has changed some plans I have. I have a number of things from buildasoil that I will be using and have been using a little bit.
Well I’m back from a long stint so it’s nice to have comparisons as I go. I’ll probably start with Oly Mountain and Promix. I wanna do a couple different batches actually. I wanna let a batch sit as I build it for a few years. I’m excited to see you work!
I have used that, but thrips seem to love the clover. Someone on the Living Soil Conversations podcast recommended dichondra. It is not a legume, but makes a great living mulch. I’m giving it a try and so far I like it.
I wanted to get one of those but they were back ordered. I got regular barley straw instead.
Very nice. Should be interesting to see how that goes indeed.
I have heard that as well. I have not even looked at the prices of the dichondra but it seems pretty interesting. This log was gnarly even when I first got it. About 30 mins ago I cut off and cooked/ate the mushrooms that had busted through the side and started growing lol. I usually hate mushrooms but these tasted amazing with just oil, butter and fresh garlic.
I will be starting a topic for my no till beds here pretty soon since once of them is getting close to having plants thrown in there. Cant wait to get them up and running.
This is what I went with. Cheap enough.
Dichondra Repens Grass Seeds - 1 Pound Amazon.com
Sounds amazing.
Aah alright, that’s not a bad price. I cant remember off the top of my head, but did you make your fabric beds? If so, I am curious what material you bought and used.
Yes, the material is called Eco-Fi felt. It is made from recycled water bottles.
Awesome, been thinking about making a smaller one possibly and did not want to trial and error materials if I did not have to heh.
Make sure to use nylon thread, not cotton. I think I actually used Kevlar.
Good call indeed.
Nice fill on that plant there will be bud from wall to wall
Damn I need glasses it’s already wall to wall bud in that tent nice have to re read everything
