So whose house can I come to April 8th

just because it’s math doesn’t mean it has a pattern. see pi or other irrational numbers for this. calculating the positions of things doesn’t give them a pattern. they’re never in the same place twice since everything is moving together and apart. you can tell where something will be and was, but it’s not a pattern because it will never repeat again.

good movie. i was gonna watch it one time but didn’t and forgot about it. thanx for the link. but still just a movie. like all good entertainment it has a foundation of truth, and obviously an exciting storyline, but we did not solve the mysteries of the universe.

I feel like the second paragraph of the first article you linked to nicely sums up reasons why there may have been a biological advantage to having a strong ability to see possible patterns in things (quickly adapting to a new environment, figuring out how something works, problem solving, etc).

I hear Watertown NY is lovely in early April.

One of the bad parts of living in oregon, every time we have an astronomical event it’s either cloudy or raining lol

The “Bummer of Record” analyzed 20 years of cloud patterns for 4/8 and concluded Texas is the best bet in the US… if this year follows the trend it’s likely the northeast will be cloudy. Way too early for a reliable forecast though.

St Albans - the first Roman British martyr.

Come. On. Down.

I’m going to Hot Springs Arkansas for the eclipse. My little sister lives there. Right next to a lake Hamilton. Unless the weather is bad we will have an outstanding view.
The best place would probably be in South Texas. But the longest duration of totality will be Russellville Arkansas and Morrilton. Its a must do. Next opportunity to see a TOTAL eclipse is in like 40 years. I will be long gone.
I’m pretty excited to go. Have not seen my sister in several years.

Even got me a shirt.

We are arriving in Texas on the 6th and staying until the morning of the 10th to head for home. I hope that gives folks enough time to clear out of the way.

I live in the path of the eclipse! But my area’s prediction is “30-35% chance of clear skies” so I’ll be really sad if the clouds completely cover the show :frowning:

im pretty sure no sun dwarfs clouds. Animals are reported to start their nightime behaviors durring the short duration.

Apparently it’s still cool, but only very briefly so (synopsizing the linked article, it suddenly gets very dark at totality, and then very quickly gets light again).

that’s a pretty accurate description of closing my eyes.

Either way, I already got my NASA eclipse glasses months ago! Gonna be prepared and make a great day of it. It’s basically an extra holiday this year :frog:
