That would most likely be bud rot. AKA botrytis. A fungus. It is not safe to consume the infected portions.

You’d want to carefully do some surgery to remove the infected portions. Otherwise it will spread.

Do a search for bud rot here for examples and suggestions on how to mitigate the damage.

FWIW, this is a common problem. Don’t fret though you will need to act.

Cut it all off. No mercy.

Start spraying lemon juice and water. You can find the recipe online.

Agreeing with botrytis because that’s what it is. Any budsites that shows signs must be removed and destroyed in its entirety. If you’re seeing sites infected at numerous budsites throughout the plant, it shouldn’t be considered safe to consume… gotta compost it.
Hope you can save part of it, but if not. Don’t risk it. Getting high shouldn’t cost you your health.

bot :frowning: the path to success is in the genetics. make crosses, save seeds from ones that dont rot.

DO NOT COMPOST!!! The fungi will continue to live and affect your Compost Pile. Remove affected part of plant, or ENTIRE plant, place in large Garbage Bag, and dispose. Those spores can become airborne and contaminate your other plants. SS/BW…mister :honeybee: :100:  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thanks @misterbee I was not aware of that! (Haven’t had to personally battle that one) I just assumed 140 degrees would kill fungal organisms!
Edit: some quick and dirty Google scholar research does indicate that hot composing will destroy diseases in plant material. Fungus can’t physiologically survive those temperatures.
I know mine hits 150-160 before turning… cold composting/ mulching is what will spread the disease.
