Starting up a cannabis farm in ontario

Has anyone seen what it takes to setup and get a license to get a farm going…

Its bloody nuts imho, anyone else feel the same?

It’s very convoluted and will likely cost ya thousands just to get the application in whether it gets accepted or not. Someone told me there’s a website or company that you can pay to help you through the process, seems crazy but probably better than shelling out the cash and time to end up rejected!

Thats cheap, There was an article I read, that produced figures for each step of the licence depending if you just wanted to grow, package, transport or sell. each part of the licence costs between 20 - 30,000 and there are 5 licences I believe if you wish to do from start to finish.

Because of all the technical jargon, usually always present in Government licensing they estimated another 50-100,000$ for lawyers to explain what it all meant to the average lay person depending on the particular lawyers used.

Thats how they keep it all in the big league money peoples hands, and out of the hands of people who just want to have a nice sized grow and make a bit of money at the same time.

They said it takes about a year to get the licence if everything goes smoothly, so your money will get tied up and you wont see any profit for at least 3 years.

My nephews misses has a brother who makes Naturopathic medicines, she works for him, he already has most of the licences required, for distribution packaging and handling, just needed the licence for growing. he asked me if I wanted to manage his facility, this was 3 years ago. He gave up after a year, and he has government connections in Nova Scotia. He wanted a 20,000 sq ft grow, worked out it would cost around 5 million all together, but could not get the backing to lay out all that money, and no return for 2- 3 years.

Ya that jives with what I’ve been hearing as well. Also keep in mind that many legal weed businesses are hemorrhaging money right now, so you could potentially be spending all that cash and time to go banko in 2 years anyways.

Canada is a feudalist country designed to maintain and grow the wealth of a select few (many of whom aren’t even Canadian nationals) and prevent any regular people from encroaching on that. Our country hates free enterprise, we’re the chattel and we’re meant to remain that way.

Yeah, I expect he is glad it never happened, seeing how it’s turning out, another year of losses and there may be a price war bringing weed prices down in non gov run retail province’s.

It’ll cost a guy between 750K to 1M, here in California, just to open a dispensary… and you’ll be paying 50% in tax between the government and the state.

Ya California and Canada have alot in common, the main difference being their GDP is around double ours with only slightly bigger population.

We’re sitting on one of the largest stockpiles of resources in the entire world and a single state manages to generate more wealth than our entire country…there might be some slight mismanagement involved lol

The United States has the worlds largest economy, California has the 5th largest economy… and Canada comes in at 10th.

Canada has an economy similar to the state of Texas.

True but the problem in my thought is for people who want open markets and the political red tape that you have to go pass is nuts. The question I really guess I’m asking is how can you get past the red tape and setup shop.

I wasn’t trying to make this a political thing at all. But I also am not disagreeing with what’s been said.

I was very disappointed with the legalization here in Canada. They spun it as a way to protect citizens.

The law as is stands has created an oligarchy of big Cannabis. The prices of legal herb has remained at pre legalized levels ~$10CAD/ G

Black market prices have plummeted to $100CAD/ Oz for herb that puts the legal stuff to shame.

Its botched.

They should have taken the approach of making it a tax issue, anyone can grow and sell whatever, just pay taxes on it and let the market decide winners and losers.

It’s a truly canadian way, nanny state. I cant even buy a bottle of rum outside a Governemt monopoly run store, so I expected nothing different with cannabis. Just a shame.

Sorry for the rant… just putting my two cents out there and airing my frustration.

If anyone has information on becoming a licensed producer that would be helpful. Would even love information on being a provider. I dont smoke much anymore and end up giving away most of what I grow. Would be great to connect with a network to give it to those who need it most.
