Untouched? I have my doubts
Reports from the few in modern times who put their hands on afghanis originating from different regions and dating from the 80s or older speak of an incredible diversity of smells, tastes and quality of high few(none?) talk about these days.
Robert Clarke, a visionary, a mentor and infatigable man of science warned the world in the 70s of the coming extinction of old world landrace cannabis due to the hippy trail, trading with farmers etc.
Do they still exist? Of course. Are they commercially available? Unlikely.
Our good friend Tom Hill seems to think differently. This post was after he had worked extensively with deep chunk and many paki/indian/afghanis landraces, only to give up. A walking talking encyclopedia who has access to pretty much any genetics and can run high numbers. Gave up.
Saying the elusive skunk “isn’t as hard to find as you think” is something I simply can’t roll with. Plenty of older growers, respectable and very capable growers came to the conclusion its probably people having a faulty memory. Embellishing what they’re young brains can remember. This alone tells me it’s kinda rare
You said skunk is subjective… well that’s one problem. It’s not. A lot of growers describe skunk as carcass, body odor, cat piss, shit and all kinds of odors that have nothing to so with skunk. This certainly doesn’t help finding specimens that could move us in the right direction.
Another thing is sweet and rank aren’t mutually exclusive
I’ve ran massive amounts of afhanis back when I cared(lol), thousands of them. Some better examples had a spicy stinky aroma but still smoked with a characteristic sweetness.
Another example would be skunk#1. It can be stinky but there’s no denying the in your face sweetness haha
Finally, please don’t take this post harshly. I know you had my best interests at heart when you proposed these banks. An immense thank you for the kudos too, I’m gonna need it as I’m entering the part of my grow where I have to isolate pollen, judge and cross what I think will take me to the right place.
Do tag me when you get to your Iranian run, I’d love to see it.
