Strawberry Fields once upon a time

thought i 'd post some pictures from the outdoor cannabis as it was back in the day in switzerland. some of these pics were on the old OG in different threads…

some might have heard about the swiss strain “Erdbeer”. Around 1999, Erdbeer was available as clone only, and grown in large quantities throughout switzerland.

at the time i used to work on a farm, where we had a couple of thousand Erdbeers. one day in autumn, controlling the crop for eventual botrytis, i discovered a plant that grew one single male branch. from this plant i was able collect selfpollinated Erdbeer Seeds.

wich i was eager to test the following season…

the offspring of these seeds produced vigourous, very similar to clone Erdbeer plants.
the earliest & sturdiest one’s got pollinated, with pollen from 4 or five different males.
one exciting cross was the erdbeer#purpurea ticinensis. maybe paddohead can find some photos of that one? because i don’t

another cross was the erdbeer#litziskunk, the testplants grew on a rather unusual site:laughing:

That is really crazy! Seems like impossible nowadays!

I know that at the time they were growing under umbrella of producing seeds and producing smokables was not allowed - am I right?

Umbrellas were a few different ones back then…
Scott (Shantibaba) was producing scented oils by “extraction​ from stems”… So he had all those “special waste” buds to “destroy” …
Steve was a different thing , if I remember well he was openly doing genetic research.

So the production of buds was licensed industry? I remember hemp tea (quality dried flowers ) was sold in ounces very cheap at apothekes/pharmacies pretty regularly at 2001. It must have been produced in Switzerland legally somehow…

buds were sold in transpirating bags as wardrobe parfumes in shops too…
what I do remember is that scott was supposed to destroy the buds and utilize just the stems of the plant… and that was one of the issues that led to his jailing…

You can buy hemp on amazon in the uk. So stupid that we cant have hemp tea.

if the plants/harvest were/was not intend to be manufactured into “drugs” marijuana or hash, it was
legal. of course it did end up as such, in most cases.
there were alot of loopholes. the people who sold the endproduct openly in shops, were very creative. selling dried bud in so called “aroma-bags” or “bath-accessoires” or pillows for good sleep. i remember one shop, who even sold “Hanftaler”, beautiful ornamental “coins” made out of pressed resin glands…for collectors purpose only of course.

You are right… You helped me to remind that…

They have effectively eliminated any cannabis black market. The only dealers on the streets at night were selling hard drugs.

Probably in same way as Amsterdam coffeeshops they had to pay income tax from whole goods price in practice having no way to legally utilize buying costs. Pretty fair price for gov “blindness”

Oh I remember that strain from back in the days in Amsterdam, strawberry taste.

Spent ages looking for seeds, like a fool, only to find out its clone only.

I think the clones may have something to do with varieties such as the starwberry kush’s and strawberry hazes available now a days.

Are you swiss local? Switzerland has got pretty unique direct democracy… there is strong ability for reaching compromise… can’t be seen anywhere else.

i gifted alot of different erdbeer seeds to different growers in different countrys. some used them in their own crosses. like for example: esben from zenseeds, john from green hornet seeds… or paddohead.
i did many different crosses and selections with erdbeer variations through the years.

(yes, i’m swiss) yep, the concept of direct democracy we have here, is pretty unique. a good opportunity to have

got some erdbeer crosses going this year… first plant should be a lemon larry x erdbeer or shishka x erdbeer… cant remember lol… very curious how theyll turn out ! these were made with knospes erdbeer , thanks again !
