I like what you are thinking. I personally would like to see vortex taken to a F100…real long-term project. I envision the original F1 stock taken this far without any selection made.
The Flav too!! Vortex and The Flav should both be run in such a manner.

I totally agree with you, but the F4 we are working on will take us 5 to 10 years due to our strict selection then testing process. No shortcuts to quality. I have to agree with you tho on Flav. I LOVE the Flav, the Subcool Flav I got from TGA in 2010. I LOVE that plant and i’ll never see her again. Yes Ms Jill remade it but she used a different Romulan mother!!! I have a pack but I have no illusions its the same thing, it might be close but it wont be the same. Then there is this person I know who has the Flav F3’s and unfortuantely when she had them available I had no money adn couldnt’ get them and wasted her time, so I don’t think she’s happy with me. But I will reach out to her once I can afford to play and i’ll get a pack if still available and not long gone. The Flav was the first Subcool strain I ever grew and it changed cannabis for me forever. I love that strain as well.

I’m psyched to hear someone is working Vortex with long-term goals, one of my interests in reproducing this strain is that it is reported to be so wild in its structure and effects that I’m curious to see how people segregate out different traits over time and find the phenotypes that they can stabilize.

Yeah, they had some F2s from your group but it was decided to go strictly with the F1s for the biggest gene pool. After the preservation run there should be a ton of F2s for folks to go hunting through.

He got his from others exactly the same as everyone else.

Just want to note that my comments in this topic are very out of date. I don’t personally see any ethical issues with reproducing any TGA strains at this point, but I would try to buy from Mz Jill, if she has what you want.
Mz Jill’s website says she will have Vortex available in 2023 (https://mzjill.com/strain/vortex/). I guess she has the original parents? Even so, most TGA strains were never stabilized, so a project like what @Tardis808 says his group is doing potentially has a lot of benefit over the original Vortex seeds.

Just to be transparent MzJill has released Subcool strains using different parents in the past (querkle, flav. Etc) so its 50/50 if she’ll use the original parents.

Ya know I don’t know her personally, but only through the association she has with Subcool. Is it possible that she actually has the strains and is just saying they are new to sell more? I’m also appalled everytime I hear how much of subs stuff was lost… disheartening. I’m still inclined to think that all his gear is still available.

She wasn’t able to source the originals i’m told so she remade them using different phenotypes. For example the Flav has Peach Phenos. She labels them as such. Now i’m not saying they aren’t fire, I bought her stuff because i’m sure its very good. Its just not the same thing. That being said i’ve heard people say bad things about MzJill but I also have a friend name Titan who speaks highly of her. So at the end of the day I don’t know her so I don’t judge her. I just meant that I can’t get excited for pure Vortex until I see she labels it as such then i’ll be happy to buy a pack.

Probably also worth posting this from the 2019 High Times article and interview with Subcool just before his death:
“On February 20, 2019, Subcool and MzJill met in mediation to officially separate. Subcool surrendered TGA Genetics IP to her and officially became the Dank, the same name of his two books. He also gave up the rights to the following strains: Jillybean, Agent Orange, Brian Berry Cough, Orange Velvet, Ace of Spades, Plushberry, Black Dahlia and Time-wreck, and he and MzJill agreed to the joint use of Space Queen.”
I read that as those being the only TGA strains off the table that aren’t being currently sold by Badger or Joel IMO
Or if Dioxide or SunyCheba was still selling Sputnik, Bloodwreck, Qrazy Train or Chernobyl but I think one of the the other guys is making more Chernobyl maybe Bloodwreck? SC seems to be up to some newer things with cultivation not seed sales nowadays, IDK about Dioxide:

@Tardis808 I wanna chime in and say that @Guitarzan is a standup guy here and a major force in the genetic preservation work we do. He sent me his last five Vortex F1s as the starting point for the whole Vortex co-op we’ve got going now and does a lot of work organizing the Freakers Ball Seed Collective, which is a sub-group within Overgrow separate from the coop box organizers, but often working in cooperation with them. They specialize in preserving landraces and early heirlooms and have an incredible collection for active members to grow and share back. Anything you send him is gonna be in the best of hands when it comes to getting genetics held safely and spread generously.
And for me, I’ll send you that shipping address sometime today because I am also interested in seeing your selections
