Super Green Lab Ninja Bundle: the quest for independence!

Thanks for the support guys!

@ReikoX yup with such a small space you definitely have to adapt quickly, for the best and the worst

@BudSy you’re right, the overall quality is obviously better, all the colas have pretty much the same « trichomes state » (cloudy with maybe 10/20% brown) while on the previous batch some were really brown and other still pretty clear

I guess it depends on what you’re looking for too, either a consistent overall batch or a wider range of effects between the colas

Anyway I’m happy with both harvests :grimacing:

Also I was not able to put on the Scorg screen as soon as I should have, and the plants grew under only 2 lights instead of 4 for the first 2-3 weeks of Flowering, so I think there is still room for improvement :yum:

And the good old jungle keeps goin’

End of 6th week of Flo, so far not so bad
 :grimacing:

Hey man, your ladies are looking great right now. Props on the success so far!

I’m new to the forum and actually made an account so I could pop in here and ask you some questions about your SGL setup. I’ve been watching their videos on youtube, reading through the subreddit, and scouring the interwebs for more threads on SGL builds to get an idea of what people are able to accomplish with their kits. Yours sticks out as one of the best ones out there and you have also remained consistent which is an issue I’ve run into, because people tend to fall of their grow/build threads.

With all of that being said, what are your overall thoughts on your SGL setup? Pros, cons. Have you had to sink a lot of additional funds into improving anything about the kit? And lastly, how would you rate the smell and noise produced with this setup?

Hey @icecold, welcome!

Thanks for the compliment

I guess this « stay at home » period has had some good, letting me get back to growing after years and have the time to make a proper grow journal, kind of a teenage dream come true :joy:

The trigger was also for me when I discovered the SGL bundle with the videos and stuff (the French accent was so comforting to me ).

It looked really easy to use with the app to monitor the light/ventilation system, and indeed it is easy and fun to use, can’t lie :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d say it’s ideal to get the most of a small space, and also for beginners/occasional growers because it’s quite modular.

That being said, even if the price is good you « only » have lights, an extraction fan and a temp/Rh sensor, so I’d say you’ll have to spend at least the same amount on the actual cultivation part (pots, substrats, various tools etc) and the building of the box itself.

The biggest concern is the air circulation inside the box, and of course the air filtration for the outtake. I went with a thick hood filter that is doing a pretty decent job, although the plants I’ve grown are not the smelliest. I also noticed a slight decrease in efficiency lately (after 6 good months of use).

Better filtration might help, but you also want to be careful not to push the fan too much so it won’t become too noticeable. In a completely quiet room, you’ll definitely notice something over 20/30% of power.

As for the smell, 100% stealth is a chimera as you’re supposed to open the cabinet’s door to check and take care of the plants, at least every now and then

Also if you’re a grower, you’re probably a smoker too, so you already have a smell problem to begin with

To help with both issues, I bought an air filtration device that I’ve placed in the room  It’s running most of the time, from “night mode” to full power depending on the need.

After the summer I might go for a second round, this time probably with autos, and I’m thinking about improving noise/smell control.

I’ve been looking at small charcoal can filters and micro tents that would fit perfectly inside the cabinet, and I also would like to try and build some sort of soundproof box to place the fans in.

But maybe, at some point, life as we once knew it will pop back in and change our plans again

Man, thanks for the thorough response! You make excellent points about the smell
Regarding noise and additional cost, glad to hear neither are terrible - sounds about expected really.

I also took a look at the first picture of your box again and can see you added a lot of additional sealant, reinforced the cabinet corners, and have a pretty cool intake ducts. Haven’t seen that on other builds!
I’m pretty convinced on going this route man

@icecold I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun doing it!

Also it’s a constant quest for understanding, learning and improving so it’s a pretty pleasant hobby, regardless of the « consumption » part

Wish you all the best :+1:

Here we are guys, the last harvest of the season!

Definitely not the best in terms of volume, but I guess together with the 2 previous ones it will be more than enough for this summer :yum:

Also I wish I could have given the plants a few more time, like 1-2 weeks, but I will soon leave in vacations for a pretty long time and didn’t really have other options

I figured a « not completely mature » batch is better than no batch at all (yeah I’m kind of a genius :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)

I pushed the lamps a bit harder during the last weeks, now the trichomes are mostly cloudy, still some clear ones but also a few brown-ish so I think/hope it will be decent at least.

Hopefully I’ll be back in autumn with an improved setup and new seeds to play with :grimacing::crossed_fingers:

Stay hydrated :sunglasses:
