- syzygy's journal - the clown show

I will be documenting all of the female SSDD here, so if I happen to have the pheno you’re after I’d be more than willing to send cuts (if in the US).

Hey @ABushOfKush so 2 peanut butter breath finally showed their sex last night!

One was female, the other was male. So I guess that doesn’t really help settle anything, huh? :joy:

Very happy I at least have one female.

The one plant in the pic above started getting that claw shape to the pre flower (the back leaf elongating) so I’m assuming it’s male.

The other one still wasn’t showing any pistils but it sure looked like a female calyx so I decided to use a toothpick to try and pull the pre flower away from the stem just slightly so I could examine it closer with my magnifying glass and I found one short little white pistil hiding inside. That’s a new one for me! lol

Wanted to add a few more pictures of the Chem 91 , TS G , & TS F. TS F is just the old mom added to the flower room after a new mom has rooted. Since IAY somehow magically has a cutting of F I figure I probably should make an attempt to document it from the start.

Chem 91 -

I don’t see this one sticking around long term unless the flower is incredible. Had to clear out the tent so I could pick off dying fan leaves and that’s why I was able to take the dark shots of the big pots yesterday. It’s clearly unhappy and probably slightly over-watered. Nothing else is really showing any signs of stress and everything is being treated similarly.

Triple Sunshine G - I’d say this is probably the frostiest plant in the flower area at the moment. Hard to say for sure. Lav jack radiates odor more, is sharper and less offensive than the TS plants. TS G / A / Pinesoul are all pretty frosty, with lav jack close behind. Lav jack appears pretty leafy and reminds me a lot of a mix of my “sativa” and purple pheno of lav jack.

And here’s the Triple Sunshine F mom - flipped to flower. To me the node spacing seems tighter on this than the A, C , E , G, or H. Appears to have more what I think of as “indica” branching when compared to A or G. They all sport funky 3 leaflet leaves periodically, but this one seems to do it more frequently than the other 2. Interested to see if there’s any difference in the flowers on this one.

I like the big ol’ fan leaves on her, though. The flowers themselves do look like they’ll be a pain in the ass to trim, but maybe that’s just because it’s early, I dunno. Maybe they’ll fill out.

That one looks pretty cool, too.

Despite the trouble, that chem91 is basically same potency as the TK. Just slightly heavier type effect. I like working on TK, I don’t like working on straight 91. After work trying to relax on the couch, I generally don’t want TK, but I DO reach for the 91 then.

If the 91 doesn’t turn out as keeper for you, I wouldn’t even bother with the other chem cuts

I feel like I could probably find some easier to grow high potency narco herb in my remaining black triangle packs though. I’m not pre-emptively writing it off or anything, but I will have to cut down on mothers in the future, and so if the flower doesn’t seem substantially better and different from the others it will probably get chopped. I’m going to give it a fair chance either way.

If 2 strains have really similar effects then there is no need for the redundancy of both moms. That’s where superficial traits will shine for me. Calyx to Leaf ratio, aroma (do I like it, intensity), plant hardiness are probably going to be the 3 biggest traits I focus on to narrow the moms down after sampling effects. So IF I find the c91 / tk comparison is accurate when the time comes then that choice will be a no-brainer for me. Have to see for myself though whether or not my experience lines up with that of course.

Ya it’s definitely possible that they will fill out, and it’s absolutely true that they could be grown better. I’m not so sure I want something sensitive like that long term but again we’ll see, if the flower really impresses me it may seem worth keeping around. My typical grow style isn’t really conducive to growing sensitive plants, so that is always an important consideration for me.

Ideally would like to drop to no more than 3 or 4 moms. I’m beginning my process of internally judging plant traits that don’t have anything to do with the final product or effects. I’m not writing anything off or culling anything based on any negatives I say in the coming weeks. This isn’t me reviewing or judging the strains either just to avoid a debate on the merits of all that. Too many for a hobbyist tent grower.

What’s up everybody. @syzygy was kind enough to gift me some Triple Sunshine x SSDD to test out.

I started six seeds.
Three sprouted tails in 48 hours.
A fourth sprouted at 60 hours.
The last two took 72 hours.

All six are now in dirt.

I am familiar with SSDD but not the TK. I’m anxious to see how it comes through in this cross.

Thanks for testing them out, hopefully you find something worth the space & time! Read your sun-ra F2 review the other day and it’s cool to see you found some good plants there. That’s been one of my other favorites from Bodhi (sun ra F1).

More pictures. Mostly everything is still doing well. Bubba Kush looks very nice considering it’s in a 1 GAL pot. Doesn’t smell too strong but the bud structure looks really cool.

Chem 91 - nanner spotted - think I saw a few more when in the tent area as well. Going to consult with higgins before I do anything but I’m thinking it may end up in the compost.

Sucks that you found nanners in the C91 too

Everything else looks good though!

Ya, I was thinking about how you said in your thread that you were picking them off your c91 as well. Can’t think of any serious environmental stresses this round other than night time temps hitting high 50s & I watered the c91 fairly heavy once.

I’ve been checking the Bubba thoroughly every-time I pull it out of the tent and nothing. Seems happy and stable in my area.

That’s pretty interesting. The 91 only threw late nanners for me, like week 9+, but was otherwise stable. The bubba hermed at 3-5 weeks all 3 times I ran her.

That pinesoul looks very happy! I think you’ll really like the high on her. I really get the warming, mood enhancing qualities from it, and it hits the spot any time of day.

Is the bubba cut that I have the same one you had? I know both are supposedly the berger cut just wondering if it’s possible they are different. Either way both of mine seem good so far and we’re at day 38-40. I guess different environments will stress these genetics differently as well, hence the early c91 nanners.

Ya I’m surprised that it seems to enjoy the 7 GAL pot & tent conditions. Smells just like my Goji F1 mom did but the pinesoul has better bud structure, node spacing, and more frost as well. Seems like a quality plant!

Yeah they should both be the same.

Decided I’ll keep the c91 for now but I may still toss it later on if it keeps throwing them. Plucked off what I could see today and had to take Lav Jack, Bubba and TS-G out of the tent to do it. Chem 91 barely has any smell and the buds are very small compared to everything else. The leaves look unhappy in person beyond the typical rust look you see on c91 flowers.

I know people are probably getting annoyed by the daily photo dumps but it is what it is.

Chem 91 - plucked the male parts that I could see after taking picture

Even the pinesoul lowers are about 3-4x the size of the c91 tops and the pinesoul smells stronger as well.

Lavjack

Lav Jack next to Triple Sunshine bud. Triple sunshine is a bit frostier and less leafy than lav jack. Lav jack smells a bit stronger.

Is the Chem one of the ones in the bigger pots? Or is she in the one-gallons?

I’m sure you’ve already thought about this, but maybe she just likes a lot of space for her roots? Or maybe you have to feed her more stuff? Haha. I’ve read that plants bred in hydro situations don’t do as well when grown in soil and vice versa. I don’t remember for certain what exactly the deal was with Chem and how she was bred or whatever, but I feel fairly certain that she wasn’t grown in an “organic soil”-type of situation.

Put a bunch of stuff in your water and see what happens! Haha. Fulvic and coconut and, um… I dunno haha. Something else, too. Maybe some kelp or some SEA-90.

Just kidding about all of that at once, but maybe one of those things might help haha…
