- syzygy's journal - the clown show

The first TK S1 in the second pic looks a lot different than the TK S1 #2 in the last pic. I dunno if that’s the same plant with a different camera angle or what. They all look really good, though, TK or TS.

I think I like the TK S1 #2 the best, just because of that pale green color. The straight TK in the last pic looks promising, too. I like how she has those sorta “swirling” calyces, reminds me of Sour Diesel.

Real Sour Diesel haha, not the bullshit that I’ve seen online the past five years or so.

I popped 12 TS x SSDD seeds and got 100% germination. Now I just gotta figure out what to do with 'em because they popped before my soil test results came in. I don’t wanna toss 'em in cups yet but soon.

Apologies if you’ve already mentioned this but I’m curious if you use silica in your res. What about humic/fulvic acids? I realize everyone has a different starting point with their water but, at least in my case, when I started using silica and humics, I no longer had a need for pH down. Just a thought.

By the way, @syzygy , I want you to know how much I appreciate this thread. I find myself with little time for OG these days due to life being overwhelming lately. But every time I check in, I make sure to catch up here. Awesome photos, great discussion, dogs, etc. Good stuff man.

I don’t have a res - I mix up as needed. If I need a lot I use a 5 GAL bucket otherwise I mix in 1 GAL containers and use immediately. I never really let nutrient solution sit for more than 1 day (not going to set up a bubbler / pump - there’s no room )

That said no, I am not big on fulvic & humic acids in organic grows so I figured there’s no need in a hydro setup seeing as the nutrients are already chelated. If I’m wrong I’m open to a different perspective though. So far everything seems to be going well just following the instructions on Jacks/Peters website.

I always assumed potassium silicate would raise the PH, or are my assumptions off? Maybe fulvic is that acidic that it counteracts high PH tap water & silica? Interesting either way. Regardless, I’m not a big fan of the fulvic / silica additions and it’s easy enough to squirt in 1 ML of PH down from my 20ml syringe.

Appreciate you too - anyone interacting in this thread helps keep things interesting! I’m still loving the stir plate here and just used it a little bit ago. Made things effortless and perfect for my situation. Great suggestion!

will shamelessly use that as an opportunity to sneak in a few dog pics from our outing tonight.

:eyes:

haha… That’s good to hear you had a high germination ratio - hopefully you find something decent! I’ve been thinking about either growing out the TK x SSDD or the SSDD x TS after this run. I’m extremely happy with my TK x TS plant right now - it’s holding its own against everything else in the tent…

Yeah, different angles make the plant look diff. I got a handful of shots tonight of the TK S1 (and others)… Tried to do multiple angles of the S1 again.

First – the outdoor TS. Who knows if it will make it. They are leaning pretty heavily again… There have been lanternflies spotted very close to me as well, and they like hops. Has me kind of on edge because I thought I actually saw one back during that sugary sap episode on the TK a few weeks back… I don’t spend enough time with the outdoor plants to really inspect them…

Have you considered maybe harvesting in pieces? Like, just chop a few branches now, then a couple more in two or three days etc? I mean, she looks pretty ready right now, but even if she isn’t, it seems like removing her piece by piece would at least allow for better airflow, less risk of mold and all that stuff.

If I haven’t said it before, man, I love that plant…

…and that one, too haha. Just kidding, I know I’ve said that already. It would be really cool to see those two grown in bigger pots with a little training or something, though. They’re just so nug-y! haha.

Gotta love it when even the stems on the lowers are bending because of the “density” of the flowers. Great pic.

I think the TS should be the least prone to budrot / botrytis due to the bud structure, so I don’t think mold will be a big issue. I really don’t want to bring any of the flowers inside to dry though for fear of spreading pests and disease inside. I’ll probably just find someone locally to fill up a storage tote and take it home with them. I don’t need the flower and I don’t want to trim it even. It’s been raining for a few days here now so we’ll see how it looks in a few days as it’s going to start getting in the high 40s at night soon.

Yeah, it definitely has more passive odor to it than the 5150 #1 too. It’s a lot shorter and more compact than the TK mom and the buds are only slightly smaller.

What do you mean by training? I feel like single stemming produces more nuggy buds than when the plants sprawl out in a scrog or similar. I do have a mom of it in a tiny pot still for now, not sure how much longer though. Same goes for 5150 #3. I’ll probably keep TK S1 #2 around until I’ve at least sampled the dried and cured flower.

I wasn’t necessarily thinking mold specifically, but just, you know,”Let’s get her down so it all doesn’t go to waste.” I get growing outside just for fun, though. And I TOTALLY understand having more weed than you know what to do with haha. I’m in that same situation myself, just looking at jars and wondering,”What the fuck am I gonna do with all of this…?”

I hung the Bandaid Hazes that got aphids on them in my garage for a day, even though it wasn’t “ideal drying conditions.” I figured they’d all leave once the plants were chopped and dead and I wouldn’t have to worry about them moving into my grow room.

But I get it. You’re just having fun. That’s what growing weed should be: fun. I was actually really disappointed that the random weed plant didn’t show up in my backyard planter this year, always loved seeing that happen every spring.

Topping, maybe? Bigger pots? I dunno, really haha.

Interesting. Good to know.

The only plants I’ve ever grown that I didn’t top were those Pura Vida f2’s from nube and also, uh, something else haha, I don’t remember which one it was. But I did really like the way those un-topped PV plants grew.

Anyway…

Yeah, everyone’s situation is different and some people provide for others so I don’t want to come across as completely out of touch but I almost feel like your garden is a failure if you don’t come out with way more than you consume. Obviously this doesn’t go for the extreme medical cases or prodigious consumers among us… I have a low tolerance and consume only a few times a week. I’ll never even smoke the outdoor bud if I harvest it… It will be a big enough challenge sampling all the stuff I’m growing inside now.

I do top plants often - especially seed plants. Have done countless scrog grows and bigger pots too. I feel like single stemming fits my environment better than anything. A friend grew the Triple Sunshine in a 5x5 scrog and the buds were very high quality but didn’t really come out as big as my 1 GAL pot runs…

Haven’t seen him in a while - hope I didn’t annoy him too much with my Lav Jack comments… How did that cross turn out? I remember you grew it but that’s about it.

Here are some more shots since it’s too questionable outside to take the dogs

Yeah, I think he’s done. I’m sure your comments had nothing to do with it, though haha. He’s never struck me as the overly sensitive type,

It was okay. Both plants looked really good, noticeably different from one another, but smoked heavier than I was hoping for. That was during that crazy winter/spring we had two years ago, though, when it rained every fucking day and was overcast and cold until the second week in July. I felt so “blahhhhh” all the time anyway, not sure any weed woulda lifted my spirits haha. I’ve still got more seeds, probably check them out again at some point.

You trickster… haha.

Ya was mostly joking - I think I remember him saying on one of the threads we follow that he’s going to do some seed exploration and come back when he has something to share. May be misremembering though.

Yeah I think this is something we should always keep in mind when growing stuff - the whole set and setting thing. Never had HPK before and the only appy cross I’ve grown has been SSDD (and wookie crosses if those count…) so I have no good read on what to expect from that one.

Here are a few low photo count photo stacks - didn’t feel like retouching them because I wasn’t happy with them. Need to figure out a different lighting situation so I can take more shots without waiting forever for the flash to ready. Will try to get some good stacks before harvest if I can find time on my next day off - camera battery is dead at the moment.

That sounds vaguely familiar. I don’t blame him. If I hadn’t decided to quit following that Bodhi Seed Discussion thread a while back, I probably would’ve done the same thing. That thread was starting to drive me nuts. Even when whoever that was who tagged me a few weeks ago got me sucked back into it for a day, I was like,”I hate these people, I hate these people, I hate these people…” haha.

I wouldn’t ever truly bounce, though. I wanna see what y’all’re doing!

Do you have those seeds? The Pura Vida f2’s? Seeing as how they’re f2’s and all, you gotta figure that the plants are gonna be all over the place. One of the plants I grew looked pretty “HPK” and the other one looked very “Appalachia-ish” haha, but the smoke from both just didn’t do it for me. Which is weird, I think, just because I’ve always liked HPK, if nothing else.

But, like you said, “set/setting” and all that stuff. I didn’t even realize how much the bad weather was affecting me until I drove down to, like, Hermosa or somewhere in Orange County that April to hang out with a friend I hadn’t seen in 25 years. I actually had to call her later and apologize to her, just because I realized on the drive home what a downer I was being. My energy was way off.

I don’t like shitty weather haha, don’t know how y’all do it… It’s possible there’s some great stuff in those PV seeds, is my point haha.

No, the only seeds I’ve ever taken in from this site has been some Baba Kush F2s. I plan on popping more of them when I want to scratch a bubba itch - alongside some F1s maybe ( still have a partial F1 pack). If I had the PV F2s I wouldn’t grow them, not because of quality or anything. Mostly because I have way too many seeds and am too overwhelmed deciding what to get through as is.

Next round (after the seeds that are up now) I’m thinking about the following so far :

SSDD x Triple Sunshine or Triple Sunshine x SSDD

Kind of want to see what these are like since a few people are growing them. Unsure how I’ll feel about doing more SSDD stuff after this round of SSDD genetics coming up. Probably will want to change it up.

Deep Line Alchemy #6 - Iraq Ranya x 88g13hp

I bought this after reading higherthought’s review and every time I pop a few seeds I seem to get males. Not sure how many seeds I have left but I am interested in checking this one out still.

Gorilla Biscuit IX - only a few beans left I think. Maybe only 1 or 2…

The first “elite” clone I was gifted when I started growing was a devastating Sensi-Star pheno. The smell was very unusual and I’d love to find it again. It’s not the tropical smell that people seem to associate SS with - it was hard to describe but I’ll know it if I come across it again. I was given another SS clone later on which was not the same thing. That 2nd one did have a tropical / fruit punch type of smell to it. That one had larger buds but was nowhere near as frosty, smelly, or potent. Not interested in that one.

I was told these people were going to the HT CC and shipping seeds back to themselves in a creative way. Not my story to tell but as I understand it they were doing pheno hunts that would still be impressive today. I don’t have confidence that anyone claiming to have SS work actually has anything resembling this clone that I was given.

Nostalgia more than anything and hopes I can find that smell again.

Snuggle Funk (Black Domina x 88g13hp) -

I don’t really need sleep time meds but ever since I started growing I remember looking at offerings of Black Domina at the banks. Kind of like Jack H and SSH. I’ve read there have been a few different versions released and I have no idea what I was looking at, but may be fun.

Pinball Wizard (SSH x Wookie 15)

Similar thoughts about this as the Snuggle Funk. Not as interested in the sound of a SSH / W15 pairing but who knows.

Redeye Jedeye (Skywalker OG x 88g13 HP)

Even though I seem to get nanners often in this line I really liked the plants I’ve found. Would be nice to have a mom of it.

Malawi gold - Either asking a friend for some clones to run or popping my own from the seeds he gave me.

Not sure what meets your definition of shitty weather but I kind of like the contrast of the 4 seasons here. I think fall may be my favorite time of year and sadly it seems like we don’t really have fall anymore. When it’s not raining it stays in the high 70s until December it seems now. Just feels like extended summer with cold rain sprinkled in.

 Really good sensi star IME has always had a metallic scent in there. definitely a metal scent of some type. Last one I had was a metallic pine, no fruity or anything.

The buds on the SS cut I was given almost resemble the Triple Sunshine from what I remember (not in smell though). Probably not as good of a bract/calyx to leaf ratio either. They weren’t as elongated but a similar kind of shape - more “indica” branching but performed well in a sea of green like the TS. Was very potent.

Who knows if it was actually SS. Maybe there was a miscommunication on the cut I was given. Maybe they got the seeds from a coffee shop and it was a bs rename… So many variables to consider and since I wasn’t the one who purchased or germinated the seeds (neither was my friend) I’ll never know. To date I haven’t smelled the same smell in Cannabis yet. I think one of my Black Triangles had a slightly similar smell, but definitely not the same thing or as intense.

I wondered if the people it came from had gotten it from that PhilCuisine guy here as a cutting - his ‘ogre’ cut. They did get cuttings too and so that was a possibility. His pictures sort of look how I remember the one I had.

Some of the people it came from actually grew in phototrons too. I got a phototron from one of them that I used to keep a mother in, but didn’t keep it for long. Ended up building a cabinet like the ones in that old bonsai mother tutorial. Never flowered in one and as far as I know neither did anyone else here. A lot of growers around here used them for moms at some point it seems though. When I asked him about the smell on his OGRE cut he said it was lemony, and that’s definitely not how I would describe the cut I’m thinking of. Pine skunky diaper spice is the best I can put into words from memory, but it’s not a smell I’ve smelled since (around 2002-2003). All a mystery…

TS looks really stacked up, more so than she did inside for me.

Yeah I’m in the same boat really, it’s tough because i would really like some of my outdoor stuff to finish so i can at least sample it. Finding some botrytis starting to pop up though and gonna have to lose some branches. getting the cool rain and then getting warm and sunny again really does a number on the plants.

haha definitely, i can grow for my own needs in just a 4x4, but it’s way more fun to have the space and grow lots of plants.

I think (hope) he’s just taking a break for awhile… I miss seeing him around here! I’ve been trying to stay in touch with him. I grew his PV f2 too, I got a really good plant out of those… still have a few more to look through.

Lookin good! Yeah the flash re-charge is a pain… maybe a constant LED flood or spot light?

This one would be cool, i heard that Iraqi is pretty interesting… i think nube grew out some testers.

Gotta keeping hunting!

Yeah that Iraqi has always piqued my interest after researching it. I don’t really know much on it but both bodhi and strayfox said the Iraqi mom’s high was ‘mind fire’. And it looks nice too :yum: not sure if nube found that pheno in what he ran of the dla version though

I remember nube grew out the TK x Iraqi which looked cool. No clue if he grew the DLA though. I’ll almost certainly grow at least 4 or 5 of them next round. I counted 3 Gorilla Biscuits in the Seeds of Compassion envelope so I may do all 3 of those too…

I thought about a dedicated light but I just really don’t have the space in my grow area. I think that is the answer though. I’ll have to figure out an area to do it in eventually. A flash really isn’t practical if you’re taking 20+ shots and doing multiple attempts / flower shots.

For sure. I love the gardening side of things and grow for more than just consumption reasons.

100%.

The auxiliary branches are like 2.5 - 3’ pure (small/elongated) buds. TK made much larger buds but also noticed the very start of botrytis taking place on it when I cut it down. I think TS would be a reasonable plant to grow outside but I’ll be sticking to indoors next year most likely.
