Early samples have me really excited for the Triangle Kush x Triple Sunshine. Initial impressions are very promising. Early opinions are subject to change but so far it appears a bit stronger than TK (1-2 hits being a bit stronger than 2-3 of the TK), great flavor, and the same type of effects. Seems slightly more euphoric but I’ll wait until I’ve had more time with her to speak more on that. Either way, it seems like it has a ton of potential. I definitely want to go through more of the TK x TS E seeds… Hopefully this plant is from the E pollen.

The TS and TK have been great too. Both are hitting a stronger than my soil plants I feel. Will give it more time before I form a solid opinion on that too. I haven’t sampled any of the CSI stuff yet.

You like the grove bags? I’m debating getting my cheap-ass to budget for some next round. I’ve checked out some flower stored in them from a few buddies over the years and they always seem to really hold the smell exceptionally. We use them at work as final storage but I honestly don’t even handle the final product anymore.

I like not having 20+ bulky quart mason jars. The bags collapse down and take up no space and are light. Good for gifting too. No matter what I clean the jars with they seem to retain some degree of odor on re-use, which I don’t like. They are close enough but I think glass jars are probably better if you really care. That said, I’ve never tried vacuum / heat sealing the grove bags. Maybe then they would perform better. For my uses they are good enough.

Do you guys add anything to the bags like Boveda packs or nitrogen gas? Every time I’ve tried Boveda packs they seem to reduce smell and quality, but maybe I was doing something wrong haha.

I’ll drop in a boveda 62 if the RH in the bag is below 57 or so. Like if I waited too long to trim everything up and bag it. Can’t say I’ve really noticed if it gets a bit muted after that or not  Maybe

For me in jars it’s muted and slightly altered too. I’ve noticed it in side by sides, but it could have been error on my part. I got some bud from a dispensary that came w/ a boveda / humidity pack and that had the same type of smell to it. Almost seemed mellowed out or not as sharp if I remember correctly…

Yeah that sounds right. I stopped with the jars after my first round with the grove bags. Convinced me right off.

The storage space isn’t something I had considered. I guess it would be a lot lighter than all the huge jars I have as well. I recently cleaned a bunch of jars with baking soda, hot water, and some dish soap. After a lot of scrubbing I couldn’t detect any smell. Was a lot of work though.

I’m not sure about them adding anything to the bags. It’s possible but the room they’re held in is controlled at 60F 60% humidity so I don’t see the benefit they would add in that case.

Ah, OK ya I’ve tried dish soap, Star San (sanitizer), boiling water, bleach, alcohol, and all seemed imperfect to me. Maybe it was just the lids though haha… I remember ruining brushes trying to get the trichomes out of the jars too…

Here in OH I thought I’ve heard many of the producers would inject their mylar bags and jars with nitrogen gas to improve shelf life. Not something I’m able to do so never really delved into it though.

For grove bags I’ve tried a variety of sizes and I like the 1 oz and 1/2lb bags depending on yield of my plants. The TK & TS went in 1/2 lb bags because there were multiple plants, the rest went in 1oz bags.

I picked up some 1/4 ounce bags for gifting and they seem pretty nice too. Flower quality has held up well in those that I’ve tested from my winter grow (~8 months or so).

I just rinse everything out and then put everything, the jars and the lids, in the dishwasher. Gotta be sure to rinse them out first, though; if you don’t, the dishwasher’ll REEK of weed when the cycle’s over haha.

I still use Bovedas in my jars. After about eight months everything smells the same, no matter what’s in them, but they still taste different from one another. I dunno if the smell thing is because of the Bovedas or if it’s just because the weed’s old. If my little hygrometer things still worked, I’d just throw those in the jars and only add the humidity packs if I needed to, but since I can’t tell what the RH is inside the jars, I play it “safe” and just add the packs.

I assume you are speaking from experience here haha.

I’m going to keep using the grove bags over jars just because of the space issue alone. After using jars for decades it’s really nice being done with them. Having a backlog of filled bags is easier to deal with than quart and half gallon mason jars. The grove bags aren’t that expensive and they are local to me anyways. It’s my patriotic duty to support them.

Yeah that bothers me, but like you said it may just be because the weed is old and a particular strain doesn’t retain terpenes as well as others may. I remember I had a tiny bud of REJ in a jar that I found a year+ later and it still had that extreme intensity of when it started curing.

I’m not a fan of the Bovedas. Back probably 10 years ago now I spent some big bucks on a set of those C vault things (big ass stainless steel containers). The lids on them have a spot to keep the Boveda packages. I noticed after awhile that it was messing up the smell of my bud. I would put in something that absolutely reeked like gorilla glue and in like a week the fuel from it would be completely gone. Stuff in a jar or a bag would still smell strongly.

I’ve told quite a few people over the years and made a few posts on it but weirdly some people including a few people I know in real life straight up don’t believe me like I am imagining things. They say things like “it’s not possible it’s just salt and water” or something along those lines. Like I hadn’t tested it on many pounds of weed before coming to that conclusion haha. I’ve also heard things like “you aren’t smelling it because the terpenes aren’t evaporating off of it like crazy” or whatever, and that when I grind it or burn it the smell will come back which it never did. Gone for good, muted.

Now my pricey C vaults are relegated to storing my seed collection in the freezer (I don’t store my weed in them because they leak smell). I personally just use zip zag bags to store my stuff. Almost as good as a vac seal and relatively cheap if you buy a bunch. I’ve also been trying out zippy seals which are also pretty decent although hard to close.

For very long term storage (a year + ) vac seal in freezer works well. That same batch of gorilla glue that lost it’s smell with the Boveda I froze for a year and a bit and when I took it out it still reeked up the entire room like it was new. Just gotta make sure to let the bag thaw out before opening it, I usually wait overnight.

Grove bags seem interesting but I’m too much of a cheap-ass to buy a bunch.

Well one things for sure, the quality of your flower will not improve over jars using grove bags. Never used other types of bags but wouldn’t be surprised if they are just as good as mylar / grove bags.

Very interesting to read your anecdote / experience with bovedas. Lines up exactly with my experience. I’ve read the same things in various threads about superior preservation because of the lack of evaporation or off-gassing. Seemed like gaslighting to me more than anything.

Yes.

Haha.

Right. I’m inclined to believe that it is the Bovedas that’re making the weed smell the same after a while in the jars. Like I said, I don’t really wanna use them, but they don’t seem to affect the flavor or the high, just the smell, so…

I’d like to make that storage container thing that greenhighlander uses, it’s like a cooler that he altered somehow. Think he injected insulating foam into the lid or something. It sounded like it worked well, anyway.

I appreciate that perspective because you acknowledge that the odors are changed or reduced, but it’s not something that concerns you. Why do you use them, if not to preserve the terpenes? Do you find they provide smoother smoke or something like that when @ the optimal RH?

I tend to only use the boveda’s long enough to get the RH back up in range. Once it’s like that for a few days I usually take them back out. The grove bags seem to hold onto the RH level once it’s set.

Just so the weed doesn’t dry out. I guess? Haha. Although this:

Sounds like a better idea. Just keeping them in the jars long enough to get the RH to 62% and then removing them. I think I’ll try that.

Seems nobody uses ball jars anymore. Whats the benefit of these bags? I keep seeing gowers on here use them

Turkey bags… i switched from glass to turkey bags, its convenient, takes no space to store, and u can control the ammount of air left when u close it…

Also cheap as fuck

Beautiful buds/grow @syzygy Thank you for sharing!

We still use Mason Jars and sealable cannisters. But…I’ve stopped hanging plants and am now freeze drying it all. Gonna be a bit different in that there’s not that “cure” thing going on per se’…but there’s no HAY smell at all in the mix either. Everything smells a whole lot like it did on the plant. You crack the jar and it is an instant smack to the Olfactory. No “Hmm…I think I smell Blueberry in there under the grassy smell/smell of weed”

I was skeptical…but after years of growing outdoors and storing the take over the next year…only to watch >some if it< “cure” and then go beyond that into a mode where you cannot distiguish what it was unless you read the label… I’m sold. Works well. Woulda been a shitshow here this season with the WARM temps trying to hang dry/trim 20 big plants and keep up on each one’s moisture content/etc. So much easier…
