I never defoliate. I just let the plants grow how they’re gonna grow and wait until the leaves get yellow/crispy/gnarly and then pull them off. If they don’t come off with just a slight pull, I’ll leave them on. But I don’t ever have my plants squeezed together quite as tight as you do, either. Might make air flow better to defoliate a little bit. I just figure, let ‘em grow. Plus, I’m lazy.
I say let her ride, if airflow through the canopy is ok.
I’ll be the oddball and say you should defoliate heavily. Recognizing that SSDD is a finicky plant to begin with, and that there’s already a little bit of the yellowing happening up top in areas that developed frost early (which seems normal for SSDD and its crosses), I say defoliate all fans in the top 2/3 of the canopy, even the ones at the very top of buds.
It’s pretty thick in there and, if you let it ride, the growth of fan leaves is likely to choke out lowers. Plus, you may have to deal with airflow issues, since SSDD is a bit more susceptible to fungal issues than some. Lastly, you’re running bottle nutes so the plants won’t need the reserves in the fan leaves anyway, since you’re providing all the nutrition they need, when they need it.
Wish I could sample that SSDD!
Aint run into any of these problems with ssdd run. 11 plants
Excess leafage i suggest check your nute routine.
This plants a breeze.
Brought my chair…watching. …( Chicago )
I’m an experimental guy, so I kinda like @MimirKush idea to do a side-by-side. It’ll be day 23 flowering tonight, I think around day 21 to 23 is pretty much when it is recommended to strip the leaves, but correct me if I’m wrong? I think I’ll strip the right plant, as it’s not getting hit with the fan as much, and could probably use more airflow around the buds.
The Polynesian Thin Mint I have really gets a bump up in yield from heavy defol, so I’m hoping for the same here… guess we’ll try and find out
Open the one blocking the fan that way they both are getting good flow bro. Just my thoughts on it.
SSDD Non-Defoliated(left side) versus SSDD Defoliated(right side): FIGHT!
The right side was blocking most of the airflow from the oscillating fan up top, so I choose that one to strip. I may take a few more leaves here and there as I see fit. There was only a light defol done on the left side.
I normally do very minimal defoliating but I just did a nice one last night in both tents.
Everything is looking right in there, so many tops
Nice! It always feels like I’m hurting them a bit plucking all their leaves, but then I see 'em recover and it amazes me how resilient cannabis is! Your Sakura F2 is looking yum!
Kind of off-topic, but the oscillating fan you mentioned, is it a clip-on? If it is, what brand is it? I need to find some clip-on oscillating fans that last for more than three days so I can make more room in my tent. I’ve got those big oscillating tower fan things in there, which I like, but they take up so much space.
Is this your tent? Man I LOVE this idea soooo freaking much. All the fans blowing air in diff directions causing cross currents BADA$$ Can you lost videos of this thing working?
I’ve got a 12" box fan straped to the roof of my tent about 5" from the top. Lowest setting possible and I never have issues with heat/high humidity or mold
Mine touch my hood and glass how bout yours?
It’s not a clip-on… I’ve read so many reviews about the clip-on ones being junk that I never went that route. It’s a Holmes 'Lil Blizzard and I made a custom wooden mount for it. Not my idea, I stole it from Reddit…
Mine is kinda crappy, haha, I’m not the best carpenter. There was also someone out there that was 3D printing tent pole mounts for this fan, and someone who was making custom molds to pour HDPE plastic in, to make sturdier mounts. Mine’s been going 24/7 for about 2 years now.
Yes, I will try to do that for you buddy. The brother in law wants bigger fans.
Edit: hit me up in a week, and remind me if I forget. It seemed to be working great for everything but the middle plant. @CADMAN
The fans you got im sure will be perfect.
Only needs to move enough air to moderately gently blow through and under the leaves.
Any stronger and your risking wind burn…
I think of the air streams like waves in an aquarium. One wave hits the other mid stream and deflects and makes more random waves.
Cool beans… Maybe place 1 fan a few inches off the floor dead center blowing up?
Same here, haven’t seen anyone with a good word to say about any clip-on.
I’m using a 12" desktop (custom shelf). The oscillating function is giving up the ghost but it bangs out a steady breeze for 20 watts of power (2 years of near constant use). My next one will be a direct replacement ($22CAD) but hung upside down from the roof of the tent.
Cheers
G
Ah, okay, yeah, that’s a good idea. I actually just bought a new tent (Gorilla) and they were offering this sorta rack thing? They called it a gear rack and I guess it attaches to the wall of the tent and you can attach oscillating fans to it. I may get one of those twelve inch oscillating fans and use that. I haven’t read anything good about those little clip-on oscillating fans, either, but I have a feeling the larger ones may work well.
I like that 3D printer idea, too. My friend’s husband has one of those, maybe I’ll ask him to print me out a couple fan poles.
@Gpaw Yeah, I had a little stationary clip-on fan that I tried to use a long time ago, but it kept sliding down the tent pole. I ran it for like thirty minutes before I was like,”Fuck this,” and put it in the closet. Busted it out a couple months to put in my veg tent and it wouldn’t even turn on haha.
