Tents full of happiness and love ft. Bodhi and friends

How is the taste of the herb using Canna A & B. My issue with using salt based nutes in the past is that the terp profile was pretty mediocre.

Honestly it’s a hard comparison for me.

My first few rounds really getting my feet wet growing, I used a simple organic soil recipe from this ICMAG thread. I had pretty good results, and really enjoyed the effects and taste of the herb. Eventually I want to go back to this style of growing, with a big bed of no-till living organic soil.

When I trialed coco out, I kinda expected a lost in quality, as I’ve def smoked some crappy salt grown herb before. I was really kinda surprised with my results, to be honest. I grew some of the same cuts I’d grown in organic soil and really the difference was minimal in my nose and mouth, but there was a difference. I’m more of an effects guy, so those things do take a lower priority sometimes for me. I let some friends try and tell the difference between organic and non-organic grown and only like 25% got it right, which could’ve just been guessing. The difference is there, for sure, but you’d have to have a really trained eye, nose, mouth to spot it.

I’d guess I’d really like to do a side by side comparison, using the exact some clones, same lighting source, etc. Then see which one is better in the end. I suspect the organic is better, especially if dialed in. But in my current situation, I’m forced to use bottled nutes…

Oh interesting… I haven’t really noticed a difference in quality with salt vs organic. I get more weight and can better control things with salt, but organic is just so easy to do.

I’ve trialed one plant, I grew it and took a clone, grew the original out in DWC with canna aqua and then finished with House and Garden, and then later I ran the clone in organic soil.

There was no difference in potency or effects for me between the two plants. The organic soil clone smelled just a little more complex but nothing major, nothing you could tell without both side-by-side, but the terp profiles were completely reversed!

In DWC she had a strong berry smell up front, with a little musky hash at the very end of the scent.
In Organic Soil she had a strong musky hash smell up front, with a little berry scent on the backend.

Both smells carried through in the cure, the dwc smelled pretty berry-ish, and the soil ended up with musky hash. Again, effects were the same, potency was the same. I did pick them at the same flower time.

I haven’t had a chance yet to retry with different strains to see if I can reproduce it

Okay, that’s interesting. I don’t know anything about coco or bottled nutes or anything. But that Purple Wookie is making me think I should do some reading haha! Just kidding, I love my soil.

@HolyAngel That’s also really interesting. I’ve found that everything I grow has a very “earthy” thing going on with the flavor, no matter the strain. But I’ve gotten to the point now where I can tell if the earthy flavor is coming from my soil or if it’s part of the terpene profile (I can’t believe I just typed the words “terpene profile”…).

At least, I think I can tell…

Pura Vida F2 #1

Bud Structure/Bag Appeal - 9.5/10

Dense, but not rock hard nugs, that are just coated in crystals. Breaks up easily into little chunks and grinds nicely. Low leaf to bract ratio and was an easy trim.

Smell/Taste - 8.5/10

When you crack the jar open, you’re assaulted with this pure “clean” smell. It almost reminds me of petrichor, or some other unique smell. Upon examining and breaking up the buds, a lemon/lime soda smell escapes, when you really grind them up the back end has some sweetness with hints of vanilla in there. Very feminine smells, nothing skunk-y or acrid or noxious, pleasant to the nose. The nose carries over nicely to the taste, with notes of citrus on the inhale and smooth sweetness on the exhale. Very pleasant to consume via smoking or vaping. Vaping seems to let more of the sweetness in.

Effects - 9/10

I find this one to be an almost perfectly balanced hybrid. Within about 30 seconds of consuming, a warm happiness filled my heart. Warm relaxation moves through my body to my spine and behind my eyes. I was listening to Snarky Puppy - Lingus (fucking awesome band, what a keyboard solo at the end!) and my ears started picking up things I’ve never heard before, my brain felt wired into the music and I could feel the vibrations move through me, so much energy! I felt goofy and I started playing with my dog in goofy ways, I’m sure he was pretty amused with me jumping around on the ground with him. @nube actually mentioned to me that he connected with his pup on another level when smoking one of his Pura Vida. Interesting that I shared the same experience and did so without evening thinking of what he had mentioned when he smoked it. Maybe it’s good for feeling connectedness to other beings? My girlfriend got home a little later, I was still in a good mood and acting goofy, she asked “Are you stoned?”, which she never asks, cause I pretty much always am, but there was something different about the PV that put me in a happy/lifted place. Effects tapered off after about 2 and half hours, leaving me relaxed and hungry. Pretty much what I look for in a hybrid, very nice mental expansion effects, with some body relaxation thrown in there too.

Looking forward to trying the other ones… gonna smoke on PV1 for awhile a report back with any changes in effects. Glad I kept the PV1, she revegged easily and have a clone of her now getting ready to go into the big tent next round. Will be cool to see her under the big light!

Loving all the great smoke reports today!!

Glad you found a keeper! That’s a kickass outcome from only 4 females. Seems like the strain was aptly named.

Thanks for the the musical selection. I loved it! Reminds me of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, or maybe some of Stevie Wonder’s stuff, or Erykah Badu. Really fun jazz jam band.

Finding a keeper outta four is pretty awesome in my book!

Snarky Puppy is really good, if you like jazz fusion funk rock at all you should give them a listen. They have a grammy nominated album “Live at Royal Albert Hall” that is good and their album “Tell Your Friends” that was recently remastered is what got me into them in the first place.

Sunshine Daydream tent - Day 40 of Flowering

The buds didn’t quite stack as much as I would’ve liked this round. Not sure if I stretched her too thin with too many tops, or there was a period where I had to stop my dehumidifier and they were not drinking as much, and possibly not cycling thru as many nutes as they should’ve been. Not sure which side is gonna win out weight-wise, looks like the right side has a little more bulk on the lowers. Will probably take this tent to day 65 or 70… we’ll see.

Left Side:

Right Side:

Not sure what is going in this tent next. I’ve got some Black Lime Special Reserve going, 8 of them ended up popping, but one is badly deformed, not sure it’s gonna grow out of it. Depending on how many girls I get, I may run them all in this tent.

Also have two GMO x Black Triangle going, as well as a clone of Pura Vida pheno 1, another SSDD clone, Purple Wookie V2 clone, and Polynesian Thin Mint clone all in veg getting ready for the big tent.

Just tossed some of Sebring’s Maui Wowie in the big flower tent today, I will throw up some pictures tomorrow.

Big tent was cleaned and sprayed down, ready for another round. I have been stuck in trim jail, so I’m trying to keep other parts of the garden going when I can find or make the time. I wish I could retire already, I think’ll setup a hammock in my grow room when I do, and have my lights on a simulated sunrise/sunset so I can go chill with them in their morning and evening… haha living the dream!

Anyways, in reality… two of @Sebring 's MWCB going into flower. Put some tomato cages over them this time. Seems like they can stretch from the reports I’ve seen. They should fill out in no time :yum: Everything seems to love the Timber, more so than the MarsHydro. I’ve been vegging under a TS600 and they perk up when I put them under the Timber. I dial the Timber down some at first, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Let the show begin!

Hope everyone has a great day :green_heart:

They look great as usual, and I’m curious to see how the cages work out for you. MWCB is quite the mashup!

I think you’re right about the Timber lights compared to Amazon brands. They’re just better overall, better spectrum, better quality, and dimmable makes a difference. Better to dim than waste electricity by hanging high and losing photons & intensity. When you’re ready for a new light, let’s talk before you buy. :+1:

Mars Hydro…well you know their reputation. You can grow a plant under just about any light, even candlelight - they are weeds after all - but some are better than others. I hate to see people spend their hard earned money on low quality lights.

Short anecdote. I bought a Mars Hydro tent, thinking the higher price compared to Vivosun and Apollo Horticulture would give me a better tent. Out of the box it had light leaks from 100% of the stitching around the zippers - it’s like a white halo around the zipper when the room’s dark but the tent is lit up. The materials quality is waaaaaaaay lower and junkier feeling than every other tent I’ve ever bought, and I’ve gotten the cheapest tents Amazon has to offer. When I reached out to Mars Hydro in email and on the forum, they refused to stand behind their product. I assume, based on the reviews of people who know better, that their lights are the same low quality.

Yeah, I agree on Mars quality… cheap Chinese junk mostly. I don’t really believe their PAR maps, but their drivers do put out the advertised wattage. I have a Citizen/Cree COB light that I built years ago and it seems to do as well or better than the SP250. I use it for my mom tent now with the Cree’s turned off and the Citizen’s dimmed. Good thing I got the Mars on discount and didn’t pay full price…

Haha, that’s funny about the Apollo tent, I have an Apollo and it’s held up surprisingly well over the years. I like the looks of the AC infinity tents, but haven’t seen too many reviews on them. I know to steer clear of the MH ones now…

I will definitely be consulting you guys for my next light… hopefully to build something that covers the 2 x 4 entirely with LED strips. Need some more cash! Where’s my $600 government!!!

The MWCBs are looking really good today, I had to snap a pic. I love this stage of growth in early flowering, they grow so fast now that you can almost notice a difference each time you open up the tent. Cleared out the lowers a bit and tucked everything in the cages. Running the temps around 83/84 in the tent, they seem to love it.

We love our ac infinity tents. I need to do a light leak check and report back.

Right on! I really like how they have a mount for the fan controllers on them. I wish they made a 4 x 8ft…

They still have new sizes coming out the last time I looked. It was a 2x2 or something tiny and another odd size I think.

There is 4 x 8’ is under development, no ETA though.
How do the zippers look? That’s always a critical component.

Cheers

That’s great news… I eventually plan to upgrade to the 4 x 8. The zippers are pretty important and even the ones on my Apollo Horticulture have stood the test of time. I run my tents in a dark room anyways, but light leaks are never good!

Trash to Treasure

Cold and rainy afternoon here, so I decided to press some rosin. I like to do these with almost every plant I grow to see how it presses and experience the rosin high. Today I grabbed some of the Purple Wookie V2 larf that is still hanging on the plant, trash nugs that are almost un-smokeable. I find it is best to press buds that are fresh, the older they get they get, the darker the rosin gets. The rosin consistently seems to change as well.

Larf get put in the press (in the back left of photo) and smushed. This:

Turns to this:

Goes through this (don’t laugh!) at 200-210F for 1.5min:

Then, you’re left with this:

Not too bad of a return for my janky-ass rosin press, haha. One day I’ll build or buy a proper one, but for as rarely as I take dabs, this suits my needs.

Early thoughts on the Purple Wookie V2 - WOW! The smells coming off this plant are some of the best I’ve ever smelled coming from cannabis that I’ve grown. Insanely sweet grape-y/lavender smells at first, but this funky sour backend that is just fucking delightful. The rosin is really gooey and almost runny at room temp, which I think means it’s full of terps… it sure does smell it. The rosin smells like a piece of candy that makes your mouth water… can I just eat it?

Hell yeah. Tutorial on that press? I’ve never dabbed for multiple reasons but rig prices, press prices , etc.
