Thanks for stopping by. appreciate the kind words and encouragement. it helps.
thank you, and happy thanksgiving!
Thank you. appreciate the kind words.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
weather still fluctuating here, but (consistently) warm enough to see some of the spring flowers coming up, and the clone i tossed outside 2 weeks ago didn’t freeze to death or flip itself into flower like i thought it would.
has been in low 80s F last few days.
so… with outdoor season coming up soon, was going to drop the list of “the chosen” for the 2024 outdoor run.
i have 10 7gallon pots and 10 5gallon pots. the grow will be limited to 12 plants total outside.
so.
on deck:
7gal pots
- Acapulco Gold (barneys farm)
- Gelato (blimburn)
- Blue Dream (seedsman)
- Cali Bay Dream (garden of green)
- Humboldt Dream (humboldt seed co)
- Purple Haze (garden of green)
- PPD (humboldt seed co)
- Sour Diesel (humboldt seed co)
- Super Lemon Haze (blimburn)
- Mimosa (growing up ganja)
5gal pots
11. Black Sugar (seedsman)
12. The White OG (seedsman)
this will pretty much conclude whatever i could get my hands on for abuela’s list (BEFORE i got to OG)
i got a lot of help from a lot of very generous OGs when i first got here. i need to start playing with the regs. i have a LOT of them now. i am also in the midst of a big GDP project with much pollen chucking intended. hoping to give some back to the community this year. lots of inspiration to be had here. seems fitting to jump in.
i dunno about the rest of you outdoor OGs, but i’m ready to get going… just gotta play by ma nature’s rules… another month.
Have you found any luck with finding a growmie in Texas??
sort of. army buddy is going to take some cuts from me and start his first grow outdoors.
only problem he is 3+hrs away… so not super convenient to visit each other.
but i’ll take it. get him up to speed right quick and we’ll be pitching regs next year.
been prepping my vegetable and fruit garden spots this last week. got 80% of the raised beds built and filled with soil. still have to build the beds for the melons. i ran out of scrap lumber… gotta go get some.
i pulled my seeds stash out last night and was intending to make the solo cups to start the ganja seed. was too tired last night, so left it for today. will get to it at some point today as i’m going to be busy with other things.
gotta figure out where i’m going to set the outdoor run up this year. i tilled and laid down new topsoil and sod in the back yard last month. i really don’t want to f*ck the grass up laying down the bucket frames… the sod was a LOT of work. going to have to come up with something clever that still allows the new grass to grow.
Do you really need wood for raised beds?
What does it change to have the wood involved?
Imagine you take the wood away from the raised beds you have.
So the edges of the soil tumble down a bit, is that an issue at all?
They’d still be raised beds…
Alternatively you can use loose bricks, if the amount you need is cheaper than wood.
Use chairs?
Outdoor Season 2024 has begun. I wanted to do this last night but wasn’t free till late and was too tired.
almost same scenario tonight, but needed to get it done.
On Deck:
This year had intended to finish up Abuela’s list of all the seeds i had been able to find and acquire (before i arrived to OG - many generous OGers have helped me cross some really tough ones to find off the list. you know who you are and thanks again.) some new acquisitions made me consider skipping the line, but i found myself holding firm as i am finding that my 32oz cup experiment is working better than i had expected. so i will be employing that technique to do more list strains inside with the cups.
last minute decision to only run 10 outside instead of 12. (this might change again)
This years outdoors strains will be:
- BF : Acapulco Gold
- HSC : Humboldt Dream
- HSC : PPD
- HSC : Humboldt Sour Diesel
- GOG : Cali Bay Dream (Bay 11)
- GOG : Purple Haze
- SDSM : Blue Dream
- SDSM : Black Sugar
- SDSM : The White
- BLIM : Super Lemon Haze
Candidates and their solos ready for planting
proof of concept with the 32oz cups outside. Gelat.OG clones in the cups. i tossed them outside a few weeks ago to see how they would do with the sun and wind and rain etc. looks like they are doing great.
my observation is that they are tall and require some stabilization in the wind. otherwise, you’re picking them up off the ground several times a day. the osmokote is pretty rad. prevents the plant from stunting and keeps on growing to fit the container. big thumbs up microkote.
i ended up putting both cups in a larger pot and put a brick in there to keep it from getting pushed over in the wind.
til next time
Thank you for sharing. I’m very impressed.
yes. especially with small seedlings. the rats, mice, moles and squirrels come and munch them like its an all you can eat buffet. i sometimes have to put screens over the beds to keep them out.
f^cking rodents…
i also don’t want the wet dirt to rot my fence away. so place a nice thick barrier between wet dirt and fence.
also prevents the rats from chewing thru the fence
no friggin rats. there used to be snakes and bobcats and hawks to cull the rats. now we have all these out-of-staters calling the cops and the snakes and the bobcats get blasted or hauled away. now the area has rats. and mice. and jackrabbits. and squirrels. we still have hawks, but their hands are full and we can’t shoot firearms within the city limits… otherwise… there would be little skulls on little pikes all around my property as warning to the rest.
the squirrels are feral and very clever. but not faster than the dogs. my dogs have harvested several squirrels over the years. they make great fertilizer for my trees.
the bricks would need several courses to reach the height i want. i’m REALLY not in the mood for mixing mortar and laying brick. not that close to the fence. the area i am planting over has NEVER been tilled or planted on. when we moved here the previous tenants (this used to be a rental before we bought and fixed up) had used this spot of the back yard as a trash dump. furniture, metal, clothing. the ground was hard pack clay and barren. the ground is no longer barren, but still mostly hard pack clay. so i need a bit of height before the roots hit that clay. by the time they do, the plants should be hearty enough to drill down through it. (that’s my theory at least and i’m sticking with it).
it’s a bit more complex than that. it involves 10’ 4x4’s that slide across rails as the season progresses and the sun gets longer and shorter. i move to avoid the shadows of the fence and trees. it is also modular so it can be torn down quickly if workmen or pest control or new clients for my wife’s dog boarding come by etc etc. it’s big. and heavy.
i need to build some kind of elevated platform or something to keep it up off the new grass and also tall enough the dogs can run under it. they dug a big trench around the setup last year chasing each other around it.
plus i’m sure my wife will insist that it be “pretty”…
sooo…
it’s complicated.
pictures of last years setup in the top post of the thread.
appreciate the compliment. thanks for stoppin’ by.
Outdoor '24 - Update
we have dirtburst!
7 of 10 have showed up to play.
for the record first to pop was HSC Humbold Dream.
Those Lagging Behind:
- HSC Sour Diesel
- GOG Purple Haze
- SDSM The White
Survivors of the Spidermite Siege of 24:
Plants infested by mites that survived the spraying and got tossed outside.
AC GDP master clone in flower. no tuning back. smells awesome and super sticky. the natural sun turns those orange pistils you’ll see inside, brown outside.
.Ken’s clone mom. redflagged itself outside.
solo survivors. t-dub and kens GDP clones. the GDP clones bounced back. i have no idea what the tdub clones are doing. they have survived, but not really doing anything forward or back.
Gelat.OG flowering in the 32oz cups. (wanted to see if the cups worked outside) getting some cool purple colorations to the fan edges despite the warm temps. interesting pheno. nothing like the others. smells sweet. quite sticky. getting a nice coating of frost coming in
Til next time
just went out and checked again. looks like GOG Purple Haze damped off…
the other 2 laggards i dug down to expose the seed coats. will see if they get warmed up/dried out and pop out tonight or tomorrow. if not, i have some more seeds.
will start another GOG purple haze tonight in the paper towel instead of straight to dirt.
Outdoor 2024 - Update
well then. we have dirtburst from all participants this season. i did have to re-plant 3 strains that damped off, but there were no weird delays and no full seedpacks of duds (like last year). everything going to be within each other’s timeframe. that’s good. going to wait til they have 3-4 internodes before the transplant.
the 2024 outdoor crew
i have one more raised bed to build for the melon patch and then i will start recycling the soil in last years 7gal buckets. we have had a lot of rainy days, so not getting a lot done outside. today is sunny, so will try to get a bunch of stuff done off the backed up list.
in other good news, both autos i’m planning to start the season off with have both popped and haven’t been weak in the full sun. this season begins with Barney’s Farm Purple Punch… it’s on abuela’s list, but it also happens to be a fav of mine. if either turn out as good as the first one in the pack we will be set. sun grown, larger bucket. so much win. may you both be branchy beasts with multiple DD colas.
BF - Purple Punch x2
AC GDP master clone is pretty close to finish. another 2 weeks i think. going a bit slower outdoors, but i am fine with this. it smells amazing. sweet, grapey, fuel. nice and sticky. still super healthy, barely showing fade.
counterpart Gelat.OG is fininshing up nicely and showing some fade signs in fan leaves. tips of fans and sugar leaves are showing purple tips. pretty. flowers are frosting up nicely. smells sweet, cream and fuel. pretty plant, lovely scents. whoever got clones of this from me are in for a treat.
Gelat.OG and AC GDP
and last but not least are Ken’s GDP and the solo survivors of the spidermite siege of 24. identified solos : 2 kens GDP and 3 2020mendo t-dub clones. these ALL had a hard time bouncing back. but they are flowering now so will see what they do.
Looking good, man!
appreciate your compliment. thanks for stoppin’ by.
Whelp… something got in the garden and munched one of the purple punch autos. i am VERY bummed about this. i like purple punch… and those were my last 2 seeds.
You guys are up…
@blowdout2269
