The Central American landrace and heirloom thread (Part 1)

The Volcán Barú (also Volcán de Chiriquí) is an active stratovolcano and the tallest mountain in Panama, at 3,474 metres (11,398 ft) high.

Elevation: 3,474 m (11,398 ft)

Last eruption: 1550 ± 10 years

Prominence: 1,354 m (4,442 ft)

Parent range: Talamanca Range

It’s a real hard climb…nearly killed me …around six-seven hours…definitely need a guide or you can get lost easily…it’s mandatory you have one…and you need to sign in at Rangers office…we camped overnight in a tent…

at least my hope has been renewed thx. ive browsed on the landrace team’s website before they almost have the same selection as therealseedco except the real seed co doesn’t have a lot of south/central American genetics, has anybody on here got seeds from them?

@Upstate have you ever worked with Papua new guinea landrace? I feel like that crosses to the authentic lambsbread would be some awesome smoke!

Grown Goroka Highland just once. I’ll be trying more Png at some point and will try to get an official cutting room set up to keep my favorite Lambsbread, Goroka and other longflowers. I agree … Lambsbread and Goroka would go Together very well. You would need tall ceilings LOL. I can only imagine the Goroka vigor amplified in any manner. It would be a branchy beast

I’ve done business with both and they both have legitimate genetics. The Landrace team has some questionable and appears to have sold others work without giving any credit. The Real Seed Company does not and is cheaper too. Also if your seeds don’t germinate Angus from the real Seed Company is good about giving you Replacements if he feels there is a possibility that what he sent you was not adequate… and you cannot expect the same treatment from the land race team and I speak firsthand here regarding both companies. When I have the choice I deal with the Real Seed Company…

How big are those containers? You might be able to fuel a bbq with those stalks after harvest😄.
That Chocolate/ Garlic smell sounds really interesting. I hope it sticks around!

For all you landrace/heirloom cultivators: are there physical or online resources you might suggest to a neophyte?
I’m loving the look and descriptions I see here, but I’m also pretty clueless.
I got the seed list from Snow High seeds and realized that it’s pretty much meaningless to me…and at 150-300 per pack, I definitely want to know more about what I’m getting into!
