The Central American landrace and heirloom thread (Part 1)

Thank you for the kind words and for giving people a heads up. This is the kind of help I need.

This is a seed run
I REALLY DO HOPE for three to four :eggplant: 's so this can get uber rad on the expressions.

If they get to tall: topped and cloned :ballot_box_with_check:
If they lean: stakes :ballot_box_with_check:
If they get to heavy: stake support lines mounted via the tent :ballot_box_with_check:
If they get to thicc: WINNING. :ballot_box_with_check: :ballot_box_with_check:

The biggest :man_shrugging: is hoping all the pollen that gets sucked out the vents and blown outside becomes unviable by it being dumped out into a winter wonderland. :+1:

So open pollination then! Just think of your tent as a lead jacket around the reactor on a submarine and you’ll be fine.

Common wealth? Please forgive my ignorance , but do explain

“Commonwealth or former Commonwealth states”

The Commonwealth of Nations is a voluntary association of 56 sovereign states. Most of them were British colonies or dependencies of those colonies.

For example when I travel in Europe and do something stupid I say: “Apologies, I’m ignorant as I’m from the commonwealth.” which always makes them laugh if they understand English. :+1:

oaxaca in the ground since august 12th when it was 18 inches tall. Just to give everybody a dead-on marker for Upstate New York at 42° latitude Oaxaca starts flowering mid September. The nodes are alternate and the very first stigmas have just appeared.
One of my old heirlooms in the foreground
Yes I got cuttings off of the Oaxaca LOL

Also I have to tell you guys just because I don’t have anyone else I can tell. I always grew my strains out in the bush for years so I would never really get to pay attention to flowering time. I was a set em and forget em type of guy. Anyway flowering time is between 5 and 6 weeks!
The purple plant in the front is prime right now and had absolutely no flowers on it whatsoever on August 15th when it was planted from its cup into the ground.

Will that Oaxaca finish for you before it gets too cold?

No there is no way. I told my cousin and his son that it was an in and out door type of plant but they forgot and planted it. I took half a dozen cuttings a couple days ago and just put them in the bubbler. That plant is way too nice to not make any seed with and I thought I could give them a second opportunity to try again with it next summer. I might be putting this one in the ground myself. I like the looks of it and it got that big in just about five or six weeks believe it or not. It was maybe a foot tall when they planted it in mid-august. That’s a yield I can live with! It may even be a self silver sides plant I can’t remember. Looks like one but until it starts flowering and shooting out all those skinny branches you can’t tell

@Upstate my oaxacan is making pollen.
Our first frost us usually around mid October followed by warmer weather for two weeks then a down turn.
My plants are too tall to tent easily. Keep your eye on Oklahoma weather.
