Ohh man. Your plants look terrific & Iā€™m sure all the chocolate strains are smelling strong right now.

Seriously tho fella , Iā€™d like to work with some of your crosses to make Milk Chocolate strainā€¦

What does each strain smell like right now?

Still no chocolate smells from anything. The Koffee seems to be at least leaning more towards that dark, earthy tone. The Chocolope were slower to start flowering, and I suspect their smells to start getting louder, soon. The Chocolate Chunk has a sweet smell. I still canā€™t really describe it. I need to spend some more time with them to pinpoint the scents on all of them. Overall, still nothing that screams chocolate. Which goes with the point of this whole hunt. Chocolate isnā€™t a common flavor. Itā€™s not as easy as popping a couple beans of any strain that has ā€œchocolateā€ in the name. Iā€™m not a fan of people crossing strain names. Instead, cross the individual plants. The plants that actually represent what the name implies. I want something chocolate!! Not something that has chocolate in the name, or a bunch of so called ā€œchocolateā€ strains mashed together. That still doesnā€™t mean that the offspring will have any chocolate smells or flavors in it. I donā€™t believe that finding & stabilizing a real chocolate profile is going to be something that will be done quick & easy. I have a lot of beans to go through in hopes that I will find the keepers Iā€™m looking for. Only then does the breeding begin. So, pack your lunch. This is gonna be a long ride. :chocolate_bar::chocolate_bar::chocolate_bar:

Chocolate Chunk #6 is looking solid, though. She has a super pungent & sweet smell that I just canā€™t put my finger on, yet.

Love it. Your description above is exactly how I think as well. I understand finding something that actually smells like chocolate will be not Easy or quick but makes it so much more rewarding to actually make something this specialā€¦

I tend to build flavor profiles based on how I make vape juice recipes, it sounds far fetched but believe me itā€™s pretty closeā€¦ vaping juice flavors works the same way, just because itā€™s called Blueberry doesnā€™t mean thatā€™s what it actually tastes like lol

For the chocolate taste/smell as a base Iā€™m lookin to combine these flavor/smell profiles:
Vanilla/Sweet or Carmel, Coco/Coffee/ chocolate types and a cream base like Malana Cream Landrace Hash because itā€™s tendency to be ā€œwetā€ with resins that have creamy vanilla profiles. These are all chosen from known characteristics of each potential strain involved and of course we would have to repeatedly breed towards these features in offspring over generations to hone in on this specifice flavor/tasteā€¦

I think its well worth this effortsā€¦ I do believe that Chocolate Chunk X Malana Cream would be one of the most logical 1st attempts at thisā€¦ Of course anything that stands out as coco/coffee/chocolate overall is certainly a strong contender .

Itā€™s also kinda like cooking, you canā€™t get chocolate flavor without vanilla, sugar & coco.
Otherwise you get a dark chocolate bitter taste.
So we combine a few Items together to make it more favorable to our senses. This essentially what we can do here.

It doesnā€™t matter if it takes a few years or longer itā€™s ok and expected. If you wanna work with me in the background to make this happen, letā€™s do it since your already growing and probably making seeds of a few different chocolate types and Iā€™ll be growing Malana Cream this year to get the most vibrant, resinous vanilla style base this will be fun

Small Update
:seedling::seedling: Still hanging onto backups of everything, minus Chocolate Chunk #2 (female) & #7 (male). The #2 clone wasnā€™t much from the start, and dudded off. The #7 clone was dumping pollen in veg. Heā€™s managed to make over half a dozen extra crosses that I didnā€™t intend for. Nothing major, but slightly seeded several of my moms that I have flowering, nearby. So, I had to cull him. :axe:

:eyes: Pictured is Phinestā€™s cut of Ice Cream Cake :birthday: and Terp Hogzā€™ Zkittlez :rainbow:
Those are only 2 of the 9 clone only cuts that got sprinkled with Chocolate Chunk pollen. :man_facepalming:t2::grimacing::man_shrugging:t2:

Happy accidents :man_dancing:t2:

Update
Start of week 7 of 12/12 light schedule.
The indoor Chocolate Chunk open pollination started getting ugly. I havenā€™t been getting in there, because Iā€™ve got some moms flowering nearby, and Iā€™m trying to keep the pollen flying to a minimum.

Iā€™ve chopped out the males, and got in there to clean everything up. The ladies look much better, now.

Theyā€™re all really starting to come into their own, now. Each one smelling a little different than the other. Thereā€™s a few that really stand out, though. #6 is a monster and smells super sweet and piney. #11 has some solid spears, very sweet smell, and looks like sheā€™s gonna finish earlier than most of the others. #8 is something different than the rest. Similar in structure to #11, but the smellā€¦is nasty putrid chemical burn smells, that grab you as you walk by. All the others are some kind of sweet, pine, earthy combo. #8 is interestingly gross.

Bean Update
Iā€™ve acquired a few more ā€œchocolateā€ strains to play with. I should be able to find some good stuff to work with from these. :chocolate_bar:
Iā€™ve been wanting to get into the Cocoa Puffs, but Iā€™m curious as to what everyone else would choose to hunt through.

I grew the blueberries and chocate from Useful seeds. I loved them tbh, super easy to grow. We had 1 really nice blueberry that finished early, and 1 with nice chocolate terps. Iā€™ve contemplated grabbing the chocolate diesel from their IG auctions, but they get out hand quick.
