The Dwarf of Damascus

Thanks for the in-depth reply!

I agree for germination the devil is in the details and I appreciate all the info. Cool to know what greenhouses do… I’m sure they go through more plants in a year than I’ve done in my life lol…

Yeah I agree for sure… Rockwool cubes specifically are not great. I really don’t think they are intended for expensive seeds. I’ve taken a bunch of them apart and there are all kinds of inconsistencies with them. Sometimes the holes are so deep there is barely any cube under the hole. Sometimes the holes are so narrow the seedlings are almost guaranteed to spin themselves to death trying to get out.

I throw away about 1/8 cubes after widening the holes to check the depth.

I mainly kept using them because they were the easiest thing to transplant into larger rockwool cubes. However, now that I’m messing with coco I’m eager to leave them (and all their problems) behind.

Thanks again!

Just some sprouts at the moment. I potted them today, and gave them first nutrients. Kind of winging it on the mix, but doesn’t really matter at this point.

1 gallon, 1.0 ec
1g calcium nit
0.5g potassium nit
0.5g mkp
0.35 epsom
0.15g micros

A little splash for each, and we’re off. A few weeks of observation in these pots. Not a whole lot of differentiation yet.

You hit them hard from the beginning but they seem to enjoy it … beer3|nullxnull

You should see what I do to tomatoes. :joy:

It’s definitely more than they need, but usually isn’t an issue. Saves me from having to remix in a week or so. Pure laziness at its finest.

Ooo I’d like to follow this one if that’s ok! I like catching them from the beginning and follow in real time, it’s spicy and stuff! I wish I did coco for my seeds I just dropped, the soil I got packs pretty hard after the watering and couple of the seed tails are struggling. But I look at it as survival of the fittest, the others did just fine so if these don’t make it I’ll be heartbroken cuz they were an OG gifted strain! Keep up the fine work southpaw :grinning:

Happy to have you on board! I’m a big fan of coco for that reason. There’s no compaction to it. You can also run it in smaller pots because it has great air holding. I’ll be running in 2 gallon for this grow, and that’s plenty for full size plants… well despite being a dwarf :joy:

Glad to have you back! :grinning:

Looking forward to seeing what you find in these F2’s. Happy hunting and hope you find that Dwarf!

What I really hate are those starter sheets. Who came up with that idea? They’re so hard to separate it’s ridiculous. Plus I hate to handle the stuff too much with my hands. I don’t always have rubber gloves around.

I transplanted them from coco today and it was pretty easy. I transplanted them small, so I didn’t pull on the stem, just pinched the bottom and let them fall out into the coco. Then I just scooped up the plug and set it in the pot. Delicate operation, but not difficult. I think I’m officially off the starter crack.

I have missed ya. I know you have been busy. Got a few bowls packed.

I don’t see why you couldn’t use the grow bags. I don’t know you guys are more about experimenting. @MumenRyder lol

I only tried those once and never again lol… Experience was the same, they don’t easily tear down the lines. Infuriating little things. They are a lot cheaper though so I imagine everyone tries them at least once.

Glad you got the transplant done without too much difficulty! Always feels good to simplify your system. One less complication from the starter cubes.

I’ve seen a couple of you guys using those here, and they do look interesting. Being able to put the bag straight into the final pot is definitely a plus.

It makes it so easy. If I have some that don’t make it I just reused a bag again.

What I do is. Grow bags to one gallon containers. Do the flip see my sex. The 3 gallon containers. But if I see that they’re not going to make it in the 3 gallon containers I’ll go ahead and put them in 4.5 or 5 gallon. I do this all in the flowering stage.

Ho wanderer and well met! Nice to see you out, about and schooling the masses as usual. I’ll try to be quiet.

That would be a lot of sprouts LOL… I think almost 300… Is that what you are thinking of using next time??

I’ve been spending time recently breeding tomatoes. Micro dwarf is double recessive (1 in 16), so I’m about to germinate a lot of seeds.

Very interested to see that man…

I don’t 100% know what double recessive means, but I imagine it will be a lot harder to breed towards a trait like that… Maybe the dwarf gene in these won’t be recessive like it is in tomatoes🤞

I’m doing my first ever project and I’m sure I’ll learn a lot about selection from what you do here.

I’m trying to find the best cuts from 24 plants and I only have 8 square feet to flower 24 sativa dom fems. I’m going to try to grab clones from all of them. Keep the best 1 of each strain and cross the number 1 strain to the other 3 using STS.

Amateur hour in my tents lol… Despite growing for a decade I’ve never taken any clones, and each plant only gets one quart of root space in a pot full of coco/perlite. So I haven’t exactly set myself up for success, but I’m hoping maybe I’ll learn something… :grimacing:

Psyched to see more about how your process works!
