What do you think killed it, a power surge or just crappy diodes? Seems strange all but one strip have died.
It’s a good question, that im not sure how to answer.
There is a risk it’s the driver that crapped out, power surge or something.
But to be honest, I think it’s just 6 months of me abusing them.
If you look thru the early part of this lone thread, you will see I am abusing these strips hard.
Removed all the resisters and bridge soldered all the gabs, then been running them at 1400 mA.
Im not mad if it’s the strips, im impressed by the results. If it’s the MW driver that have crapped out, after 6 months use I will be less happy.
Will know once I try to light up the COB’s!
Day 41 in the Cheese cabinets
Ec 1.8
pH 5.75
Flowering on!
Anyway the COB light is up and running, or most of it is.
Not sure why, but I wasn’t able to run 16 COB strips.
They lit up but only used 50 Watt total, then removed one and it jumped to 100W and was a lot brighter.
Removed another strip and they lit up for real, power use was 197 Watt and it was slowly going up as the COB’s where heating up.
Or the driver is fucked!
Added the dimmer, but running them full strength
Dimmed
And plants under the 14 new COBS
The new light draws 207 Watt at the wall
Day 43
Middle cabinet
Lowered the pH a bit today, as it had raised a bit since yesterday.
Ec 1.8
pH 5.54
Transplanted the weird little triplet, that I seperated from that “squid” seed with 3 tap roots.
The two other sisters where too intertwined, to seperate them from the start.
This one have been developing slowly in the shade of it’s bigger sisters, but it was time to give it some space and light to develop.
Dug it up gently
Placed it in a cup of starter soil, and gave it some pH adjusted water.
And stuck it back under the light, elevated next to it’s siblings.
They have streached a bit under the COB lights, but looks healthy.
I also just upped the nutrients a bit, so that might just be new growth.
They are mainly bottom fed now, tho I still give them a good douch.
To keep the top of the hydroton, and soil rootball moist for now.
Man you run a tight ship there. Sucks about the burned out strips, are you gonna ask for your 5 bucks back?
Even if they only lasted 6 months every time they would still be cost effective really…crazy
Absolutely they write there is two years warrenty, and nothing about that I can’t remove all the resistors.
I think Im well in my rights of a full refund!
Okay I will let it slide, it’s been a fun trial and the 700 mA light is still working.
It have a few dead chips here and there, but I will see how long it will last for now.
Thank you, im trying to get into the rythem.
On the other hand this is still not full steam, it’s build and test phase
Once I am done, with the whole build. Not just the LED flower cabs.
But the drying cab and moved the veg cabinet, then I will get into full production mode.
I’m looking forward to seeing what full production looks like. I need to build a drying cab myself, I don’t like using my room but it works for now. Hurry up please so I can steal your build tricks lol
Sorry to say @beacher, but there is still a bit of time to that build.
On the other hand, I will be needing it before the new veg cabinet I think.
So it’s prolly the next build, once im done with the flower cabinets.
Day 44
Topped the res with tap water, the Ec had jumped to 1.9
Ec 1.8
pH 5.80
I also pressed some of the handpressed kiff, I have been hot curing the past 4 months.
Im running low, so diggin into this again.
But stuff had happend in the little jar, I keep at 32C 24/7 stuffed behind my boiler kettle.
C5 x Mango haze IBL
Something have deffently happend, as it wasn’t inflated last I dipped into the jar.
The color have changed, and it feels much more sticky.
This is how it looked, right before I vaccum packed it.
Final pressed puck
Turned out quite nice, very oily, sticky and smokes very smooth!
Day 45 in the Cheese factory
Did nothing to the res today
Ec 1.8
pH 5.73
The COB strips seems to do a pretty good job in veg, the seedlings and cheese moms are looking green and happy!
And it officially summer 2019!!!
Happy Growing!
Lol that calendar man. Tickles me every month
Found this at Know your meme and thought I would share.
Was searching for that pic with Trump and a garden rake as the guy… My photoshop skills suck (don’t own it)
Building the FlipFlop
For thouse who might just jumped in, or isn’t sure what im talking about.
A flipflop is simply just a electromagnetic relay switch, that diverts power switching between two poles.
Im using this, as the cabinets will only run 12/12.
And the supplyer of the strips, ran out of the drivers incl. in the price of the strip.
Anyway it will alow me to run twice as many strips, as I have drivers.
First I wired up the 12V coils, by mistake I ordered 12V DC and not 220V AC relays (will switch them later).
Why I didn’t use black n red wires to indicate 12V DC
When the timer turns on the small 12V “LED driver” all the relays will switch, from A to B position. Once it turns off, the relay will flip back to A position.
Next was wiring the Drivers and LED strips, made a small explanation picture, on the first driver connected to two strips.
Once everything is connected, it will look like a mess and hard for find head’s n tails in.
Im only breaking the positive wire, both the neutral wire from the Left and Right side. Is connected to the neutral wire, of the driver running them and tuged behind the relays. As long there where room, it is a lot of wires to fit in a small space and fuck it.
In the end, it will be covered up!
Yes it have taken some time, and it might look more complicated then it really is.
Cost of the relays needed for this was 36$, the 220V relays I have ordered to replace them is a bit more, but not much.
It basicly saves me 3 MeanWell drivers, and I do plan to switch the many indevidual drivers to a MeanWell or another quality brand.
But then I will still only need 3 drivers, to run 6 lights and less relays will be needed.
It have cleaned up really nice, getting the majority of the cables tugged out of the way.
Still not done, wiring the electrics but the FlipFlop is now working.
Totaly busted after a busy day building - just a quick update on the test grow in the LED cabinets
Day 46
Ec have spiked, haven’t had time to do anything about it.
Will look at it tomorrow, might be about time to start leaching the res.
Ec 1.9
pH 5.70
I considered this when I built my workbench. I’m interested to see how it holds up.
