The Monster Mash

I have epsom salts on site, but I’m not sure when or how to use them!

What signs do you look for and how much per gallon? Foliar, or just add to the hydro nutes?

@Gpaw now THIS is late to the party! Look who’s shown up almost two weeks late!

I’m also curious about this.

When used in soil I will dissolve one, maybe two tablespoons per gallon of water going in.

:speaking_head: I mix Epsom salt at 1 tsp (5ml I know I know dry weight wet weight - grams Vs liters - stupid American system) per gallon. But you can use up to a tablespoon per gallon if you do a flush after recovery.

Being a mobile nutrient it will move as needed. This means older larger leaves will have more. As the deficiency progresses the plant moves the magnesium to where it’s needed. This results in an overall lightening of the plant and some very notice changes on older larger leaves which are usually at the bottom of your plant.

This will manifest itself in noticeable yellowing or lightening of the affected leaves which are often lighter at the edge and between the veins of the leaf. This is NOT the same as an iron deficiency in appearance and will NOT appear white or without pigment. At first it will not look like a calcium deficiency- if left to progress it will look very much the same as a calcium deficiency and is often perceived as such when it really isn’t. YET calcium too is a mobile nutrient and often appears in conjunction with a magnesium deficiency as the same larger older leaves are symptomatic first and symptoms can become similar; they’re sometimes intermingled in growers minds.

I hope this makes at least a little sense :v:

Note: the really good thing is - if your plants haven’t needed Epsom salt or it’s use is questionable chances are good that you’re doing something right.

There’s little to report (this is a GOOD thing!) … small updates and edits have been made.
There’s a new @Heliosphear Monster Mash update coming up tomorrow (Friday) and it’s (s)MASHINGly good. Be sure and pop back in for an OOGLE at the Amazing skill and talent available right here - At Home on The OG!

My wife sent me this clip - I can just imagine it’s very much like the conversation in the tent when Momma Hilda is in the house…

… more to come … :v:

IT’S FRIDAY!

Anatomy of an Edit … ( is it slow, or what?)

Original Image by @Heliosphear edited by me

Not really an edit but she did need some help. With a little assistance we’re four for four on germination. She’ll go in a net pot before days end :v:

Here’s the plan for the next week or so …

  • Get the new baby in a net pot (she’ll be sharing with Momma Hilda for a few days in an effort to keep the tub limit to 3). She will be in a net pot, but will be starting her life out in soil next to Mom. This will make placing her in a tub to replace a positive Olive ID a simple matter of removing the net pot from the soil, rinsing it off and placing in a tub.
  • At least one of the current candidates will be topped during week 2. i.e.; 14 days + old
  • All positive ID’s for the Olive Phenotype will be removed and donated to local growers
  • Finish up and post Page 2 (and/or 3) of the Frankenstein’s Daughter Phenotype Identification Chart
  • CLEAN UP THE GROW ROOM! It’s a mess!

Should it turn out that we have only 1 HILDA phenotype to start - that’s OK. As it turns out a 4 X 4 Monster will just fit in the tent

A bit of purple in the mix

Good Mornin old friend,

Nine degrees below zero here in New England, gusts up to 30 knots and the wind chill says -27 degrees. We may skip the morning walk today!

That purple is interesting, didn’t see that on any of mine. Is just showing up on the one plant? They all look pretty healthy.

Cheers,
-Grouchy
PS, and I thought my humidity was low here at 27% LoL

:speaking_head: @GrouchyOldMan Yowzer! Sounds like winter is in full swing. I think curtailing the walk is a good idea.

Re: purple. First time I’ve seen it too! And yep, just one.

Bottom bespectacled leaves have been removed. As predicted - once roots were established the calcium deficiency has not progressed upward to affect other leaves.

The purple appearing on one of the plants is a totally new development. It will be interesting to see where this leads. Is it a new phenotype or simply a small variation? Time will tell.

Here is the plant in question up close before removal of leaves.

The girls will each receive nutrients (aggressive growth) their roots will be thoroughly examined and I’ll be talking them up in preparation for the first topping that will be happening for at least one of them this week.

The training is about to start …

The purple looks like a bit of a phosphorous issue, what’s your ph?

Good call! Thanks. I just checked - ph is 6.1
The girls only have minimal nutrients currently. They will get more before the end of the day. The redness ‘could’ potentially resolve itself given time.
