A friend of mine recently gifted me with a very special clone which I have been pampering and doting over. The stem rub tells me all I need to know about this girl. The strain is Chem91 Skunk VA and she will be part of my next seed run. I have taken two cuttings off of her and have them in my Turbo Klone and hope they root in a short enough amount of time. She’s a beautiful plant and so inspiring to watch grow.
I just grabbed a couple pictures of the HBMS plant while inspecting her. I love it when the plant outgrows the diameter of the pot.
Well my time to start treating this plant with STS is nearly upon me. So it’s time to talk about mixing up your ingredients. I know the first time I did this I was so nervous, it seemed like a daunting task. But it’s SO SIMPLE you won’t believe it. So let’s get started.
Tools and Materials You Will Need
The other day I provided photos of the Silver Nitrate and Sodium Thiosulfate Pentahydrate I bought and use. There is a difference between Anhydrous and Pentahydrate Sodium Thiosulfate.
Silver Nitrate
Sodium Thiosulfate (Anhydrus and Pentahydrate Both Work)
Distilled or Reverse Osmosis Water
A Digital Scale Accurate to 0.1g
2 16oz Brown Glass Bottles
16oz Brown Glass Bottle w/Black Sprayer Top
33 Gallon Black Trash Bag…Many cover their spray bottle with the black plastic trash bag where I use electrical tape.
Tape if using plastic…Electrical black tape if not using the plastic bag
60 cc/ml Syringe or other method to accurately measure the water.
Surfactant (Yucca-Extract) to help the STS adhere to the plant. Many use a drop or two of Dawn dish soap. I like the Yucca extract myself.
A Cool Dark Place for Storage (Fridge)
Nitrile Gloves even if you’re a manly man be safe.
500ml/2 Cup Glass Mixing Container
Small wire whisk
Safety Goggles …please be safe
Basic Safety Recommendations
The following steps require careful measuring, along with basic chemical safety. It is strongly recommended you work on a flat surface with a plastic sheet or several layers of newspaper to protect it. Silver nitrate does stain brown to black, so gloves and safety goggles are recommended.
Sodium thiosulfate has a very low toxicity, make sure you still wash up any spills well to remove all concern. Both of these solutions can be safely rinsed down the drain, when followed by a large amount of water.
Measuring and Mixing Stock Solution "A"
Fill your 500ml measuring cup with 250ml of distilled or RO water
Measure out .25g of Silver Nitrate
Mix the silver nitrate powder into the 250ml of distilled or RO water thoroughly with the wisk.
Pour the silver nitrate solution into a brown glass bottle and seal tightly
Label the bottle “A” Silver Nitrate
Thoroughly clean the 500ml container and rinse with distilled water
Measuring and Mixing Stock Solution "B"
Fill the 500ml container with 250ml of distilled water
Measure out 1.25 grams of sodium thiosulfate anhydrous, OR 1.95g of sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate
Mix the sodium thiosulfate with the 250ml of distilled water thoroughly with the wisk
Pour the sodium thiosulfate solution into a brown glass bottle and seal it tightly
Label the bottle “B” Sodium Thiosulfate
Thoroughly clean the 500ml container and rinse with distilled water
Keep Both “A” and “B” Solutions Cool and Dark! I store mine in the fridge.
Mixing and Diluting STS
The next step is to mix the two stock solutions together properly, creating the actual Silver Thiosulfate Solution (STS).
Before using the STS, it must be diluted to a weak solution for spraying!
Measure 125ml of stock solution “B” with the 60cc syringe and gently squirt it in the 500ml glass measuring cup
Thoroughly rinse the syringe with distilled water, or change to a new syringe
Measure 125ml of stock solution “A” with the 60cc syringe
While whisking solution “B” in the glass measure, slowly squirt solution “A” into the glass measure in less than 30 seconds
Pour the mixed solution into the 32oz brown glass bottle with black sprayer top
Add 250ml of distilled water to fill the sprayer the rest of the way, leaving room for a little bit of surfactant
Add yucca extract in small amounts and shake well
Test spray on a leaf to if solution still beads up and rolls off
Add additional yucca extract and shake well, until the solution spreads across the leaf instead of beading up
Thoroughly rinse all tools using more rinse water than usual
And that’s all there is to it. NOW I use a 1:1 solution of A + B to distilled water which is much stronger then the norm. Quite a few have commented on this, some not so gently. All I can tell you is that for me this formula works. 1 Part A added to 1 Part B mixed together and added to 2 parts water. Any questions feel free to ask.
My Part A and Part B were already mixed together and ready to go. I decided to add 50ml of Part A and 50ml of Part B to 100ml of Distilled water thinking that because I am going to be brushing it on by hand and not spraying it on the STS 1:1 mix will go quite a bit further. Because the final product does not like the light I treat my plants minutes before lights out.
Tonight will be the first night of treatment for the HBMS. I will be happy with 150 seeds and ecstatic with any over that amount.

Reading and following along brochacho
Excellent, well if at least one person is following along it’s worth my time.
Ya know I’m following…
Stalking… whatever…
Yeah but you make me pay you 1 seed each time you post in here, does that really count?
Ya gotta read the fine print ole timer…
That’s two…
I’m watching and taking notes. I was going to reverse my Bubba Kush clone this run but then I got my hands on Doug’s Blue Kush pollen and decided to do that instead. I’ll be mixing up some STS for my Motorbreath 15 and pre 98 Bubba Kush clones next run as well as anything else that I’m flowering.
Im reading along as well. Will be using this as my guide when I run my Aunt Ginny’s Elixer seed and pollen run. Possibly in Aug or maybe closer to Sept.
That is Mephisto’s new CBD strain? They ever given any percentages of THC or CBD?
Hey whatever works is the important thing and what you’re doing is obviously working.
It is, its 1:1 ratio. No real percent other than that.
I grew a really nice Super Lemon Haze CBD years ago from Seedsman. I want to say it was10-12% THC and 7-10% CBD. A very relaxing smoke. I hope you make a whole bunch of those seeds I would like to grow one out.

Tonight was the first application of STS on the HBMS plant. This for me is an experiment in that I am brushing on the STS instead of spraying it on. The structure of the plant made the decision to do this easier. It’s a pretty bushy plant with a number of branches all packed together pretty closely. If I were to go in there spraying the STS I would end up treating four or five branches and these would be branches I could pollinate to make seeds. So I brushed it on the selected branch which I marked with a neon pipe cleaner so I remember which branch to keep treating. Every 4 days now until I see an abundance of pollen sacks starting I will keep brushing on the STS. I need to get more Yucca extract,
I’d be more than happy to send you some seeds when they’re done.
Just reading through the thread…and i have to say,it’s pretty amazing how far auto’s have come since the low ryder days
Your instructions are excellent. I can’t wait to try this. Your plant looks super healthy and happy. I’m gonna continue to lurk in the corner here.
Continued good luck to you.
Nicely done. Following along with this project.
