The Not Fridge - nothing to see here 👀

Project Back-Off

I been trying to find the time and opportunity to make the necessary mess for this ever since i put the Not-Fridge into service. Yesterday, instead of actually caring for the plants inside it like i probably should have been doing, i instead spent a bunch of time and energy Maybe helping a Little for Possible Theoretical benefit. To Future plants. Possibly :face_with_monocle:

Whatever, it was on my list and i did it. :star::partying_face::trophy:

The thing: remove the back off the fridge, dig as much foam insulation out of it as possible, light proof the back wall and seal up any exposed foam, all before 5pm bedtime.

How’d it go? Took all day (way too long, as usual for any “in and out” project i devise), and I Just made it. Slept like a baby (having no idea i was baking those babies like an urban turkey legend- see previous post)

Prelude to my collapse at 5:01pm

At the very worst, i shouldnt have made it any Hotter. I think.
At the very Best, maybe itll be able to shed some heat passively though the craft paper layer, whereas it had 0% chance to do that before?

I dunno. We’ll see. At the Very very least, ill have easier access to add more speed holes, or cable grommets, etc out the back if i ever need to.

Wish i had taken pictures of the epic mess this made. I was wearing gloves so most of these pics were shot using my elbows lol

LOL :joy:

Plants are looking great this time!

Interesting approach with the insulation removal. Presumably you have ~70F temperature in the room where the not-fridge-but-Ronco resides?

Curious how that works out, keep us posted

As always, enjoy your colorful writing style

Thanks FE
Room its in this time of year is about 79-83F depending on temps outside.
I should really have been tracking the delta corridor so i could see what, if any, improvement it makes. But - beware the shoulda coulda.

It’ll get ya

good work. I’d increase the air circulation. more vents. you could replace the tiny sgl fan with a 28CFM to a 4" inline–190+ CFM.

Girls look good albeit a bit frustrated in the latest pics.

Agree with the vote for 4" fan. It will make it much easier to control both heat and humidity. Make sure to get a variable speed. I would also consider a carbon filter w fan purchase.

Keep up the good work :green_heart: :v: :+1:

End is in sight for this chapter in the book of the Not-Fridge :open_book:

Frankenstein D76 F63 FW9
Scarlet Grapes D76 F57 FW9
Mug 1.1 D136 F63 FW9

Hard deadline to chop is next weekend.
Frank may be a tad underdone by then but i think Scarlet and Mug will be in a good spot.

Frazzle dazzle has encrispened with some ferocity the past week, especially on mug, but im not put out by it. This close to the end its like they’re just auto-pre-trimming old fan leaves for me :fallen_leaf: guessing its a little more payback for air frying them last week:poultry_leg:

Frank
Sucking the life force out of her leaves like theyre Gelflings

Hoping she fattens up at least a little this week (if not no big deal girl, proud of you for hanging in all summer :sunglasses:)

Mug 1.1
Fryleafer: The Encrispening

:beer:There can be Only 1.1⚡️

Scarlet
No notes for her performance. Stickyfat. Didnt break much of a sweat this whole trip. A joy to grow, both times i have (so far) :sunglasses:

Canopy East

Canopy West

Bonus behind the scenes :clapper:

Also did some organizing and prep for long term fridge storage of my seed library this weekend :file_cabinet: since a) i really want to grow forever, and b) its gonna take me twice that long to grow Half of what i got

Almost there!

Has the removal of the foam from the back dropped the temps at all? I’m with the other guys, more circulation may be more efficient.

All in all, looks to be a much more successful run this time, despite the heat and mild encrispening of Mug. Scarlet is a tough one :sunglasses:

I like the seed storage racks, are those all full of seeds? I have been using those a year or two and like the organization/compact size.

Have a great week!

Thanks man- help with temps? maybe by a degree or two, but nothing dramatic. It hasnt been too hot this week though. it really seems to depend on how dry the overall media is in there for the heat ceiling. Something ill keep an eye on going forward- getting a bit warmer than usual? Maybe time for a drink sooner than id guess.

Note: I’m measuring up the real estate back there so i can cut a game changing vent in that plastic tub add a mini furnace filter bay on the backside. Make it a better intake in every way.

Then add an inline fan and figure out a hopefully non-behemoth can filter solution without stealing more internal room than is strictly necessary. Ive never grown a plant that scared me with its size in there before, but jah as my witness - im gonna keep tryin :star_struck:

Seed organizer- 1-51 slots have from 1-20ish different strain seeds in them. 98-100 have some basil seeds and tasmanian chocolate tomato seeds i collected from my “garden”. Curious how they’ll turn out (true to parent or hybridy? Stay tuned forever- i might find out someday!)

Frankenstein D83 F69x FW10 (Dry1 Cure0)
Scarlet Grapes D83 F63x FW9x (Dry1 Cure0)
Mug 1.1 D143 F69x FW10 (Dry1 Cure0)

Shortened time toward end due to heat, went from 12/12 to 10/14 to cool down and prevent high 80s before it could build up that high. In the future (maybe Next run) considering running lights at night, even if my upgraded fan (see below) fixes my little Not-Oven® issue.

Frank probably couldve gone another couple weeks. Her rub smell went from a simple lemonhead sweetness to a slightly deeper medicine twang in the last couple days, and she had little swell this week (not a whole lot though) Maybe ill get lucky and she’s riper than she looks. will end up with some frosty and vibrant buds, all the same :star_struck::partying_face:

Noticed the stranglehold i put on her neck as a baby :flushed: she just worked right around it :astonished:

Mug 1.1 just a little spitfire of a foxtail cactus she turned out to be. The bud rub on this one went to, and im not even kidding, 100% tootsie roll. I even confirmed with my wife, to whom all weed, quote: “smells like weed, stop asking me to smell your finger”. So im not playing. @Illicitmango , you ever get this pheno? They both had an uncooked hotdog smell all through veg and flower, which you really have to experience to believe. Her sister (mug2) gives a piney slightly skunky Super happy and smiley vapor, excited to compare the two finished products :star_struck:. Cant wait to cure this :one: 🫵 :one:

Scarlet bulked the hardest and is frosty as all get out. Complicated candy, :jigsaw::lollipop: is the rub note. Excited to compare the end product to my previous dumpster inferno of an attempt at this remarkable auto strain. Bad as i did on that one i still thoroughly enjoy the wispy crispy cotton candy bud i eeked off her branches. Stoked as a joke to try the realio dealio :grapes:

Standard maglite butt for scale :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
She chunked up for real

Drying all 3 at between 59-61% currently
Shooting for 10ish days but we’ll see how long till snap.

Fingers crossed everybody :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Meanwhile
New exhaust fan came in today

Going to use the schwartz, and go from suck to blow

The size of the fan and filter is (i was already expecting this) huge relative to the cu footage in there so im going to try to run it fan and filter external. Suck from the fridge, blow through the filter. Would allow for maximization of the vertical real estate, should any plant of mine ever require it :joy:

I’m looking forward to trial and erroring my way through that puzzle :jigsaw: before i drop next beans

As to which beans, i think i’m decided on another Betty White OG, photo fem, (im obsessed with that flower i collected from Rose :rose: this spring). Curious if she’ll herm this time, or if it was a fluke?
And a PPP (Purple Paonia Paralyzer) photo reg. I got quite a few of these in the spring box so i dont mind burning through a few looking for a lucky lady :four_leaf_clover:. The plan is to use soil, same mega crop nutrients, and run the micro octopots again for as many as i keep for flowering (max max 4 but really hoping for a nice robust pair). With lower temps over fall/winter, better control over temperatures overall, more airflow, running at night (maybe) and possibly a better ph situation- if the igloo really was wonking it out of whack- im already feeling some of that sweet sweet confidence.

It helps to know the only real consequence for failure is just another lesson in a continuing education. Whether i’m asleep in class that day is another story…

Ta ta for now, updates will be when warranted, flip that coin, we’ll see how it go… IMG_1415

May the schwartz be with you. Everything is looking fantastic — I’m very curious what you think of Frank.

Hey brother! I haven’t run the ketosis x icc98 enough to have come across any hotdog like smells, but i did get tootsie roll/ chocolate/fudge and the rootbeer from previous ketosis i had run years ago. Never had any foxtail ⁶l)

Congrats on the harvest! Im excited to see how they turn out for ya once dried/cured.

Happy to report: Dry went well :relieved:

I managed to keep it mostly between 58%-62% humidity the whole way through, a few short bits higher and lower than that. Bought and put a Cloudforge T3 humidifier to werk, to keep the lungroom % up and brought in a dehumidifier to keep it down as needed. Humidifier was a gamechanger this go round :v::star_struck: very little to worry about. (Once i figured out how it worked!)

Frankenstein D97 F69x FW10x (Dry14x Cure1)
Scarlet Grapes D97 F63x FW9x (Dry13x Cure2)
Mug 1.1 D157 F69x FW10x (Dry13x Cure2)

Frank
12.6 g buds/smalls
3.5 g trim
55% rh in grove bag

I know many would see this (and worse! The next two ) as an underwhelming result, but i am ecstatic. As far as i am concerned, making even a tiny amount of weed is still an act of practical magic.

Yes, i’d still like to grow a big plant or two in my lifetime :crossed_fingers:
But i have such a low tolerance they can all be runty bonsais if they want. It balances out excellently for me

Frankie kept the complicated lemon candy smell all the way through the dry, excited for the end product!

When i was done shaping the first few buds i started seeing bud shapes and frost levels i remember being blown away by in a bag i once got back in the day - 1999 era white rhino - almost entirely made up of frosty horns poking every which way in the bag :rhinoceros:

Was quite gratifying to trim a piece of nostalgia/living history that i grew in my old refrigerator :joy:. Thank you to mister @JohnnyPotseed for bringing this dear lady’s seeds to the OG masses. I promise i will grow her again and again, better and better :v::sunglasses:

Scarlet
9.7 g buds/smalls
2.3 g trim
54% rh in grove bag

Scarlet made it through the dry ok. Not much smell on her this time around, hoping that will come though a bit more in the cure. Any way i slice it though, crushed the last run i did of her :100:% :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Loved this plant, a breeze to grow. Thanks be to @blowdout2269 for these babies, they are showing me the way of the auto, and i am finding - i really like it out this way :sunglasses:

Mug1.1
4 g buds/smalls
1.5 g trim
47% rh in grove bag

Mug’s tootsie roll smell stayed put, and added a touch of gas on the back end. I smoked a tiny bit (vaped really, but i just say smoked because dry herb vaped just plain missed the verb branding boat when it got invented) and Boy was my Smile tired  starts in the cheekbones, and spreads minute by minute, wider and wider…

Thank you again and again @Illicitmango for throwing these beans my way one fateful day.

Fridge room is powered down, officially, for this run.
I have good feelings about Project Megamaid, scheduled for deployment in the coming months :star_struck:

Then maybe a run where we don’t cook the golden geese before we can collect all their goodies
:deciduous_tree::no_entry_sign::poultry_leg::grin:

Bonus thank you to @DougDawson, who at some point casually mentioned how much he liked using chikamasa trimming scissors- first time i used them, i am instantly converted away from fiskar/cheapo scissors (except to cut through the stems :scissors::wood:). Coulda trimmed for hours more happily, with excellent precision. Very worth the pickup IMO

All in all, i consider myself REDEEMED! Lol

Status of project Megamaid:

Pretty good really :ok_hand:
Probably the easiest upgrade she’s ever had.
Maybe too easy :eyes:

seems to be moving a lot of air, quietly, consistently. I rather like this .

heat tests this weekend im thinkin.
And build a furnace filter slot for the intake next time im both wired and free to constroy…

Btw - @SaintAliasKnife and @JOHN1234 thanks to you guys for the fanward nudge . More than happy to have a little “gear pressure” every once in a while!

Any downside to using a 2" exhaust hole to a 4" adapter, other than the probable wear on the fan motor over time? Not looking to “fix” what aint broken (much!)

By the Other way, I just got that frickin sweet Overgrow magnet in the mail via 8 yr anniversary prize from @Neoangelo147, along with some sick pieces of OG flair they design and make. Pretty stoked :star_struck:
:sparkles:

More to come when it comes to be

Yay on the progress! I would avoid downsizing from 4" to 2" if possible. Any bend in tubing, smaller size inlet or outlet, filter, etc puts more restriction on airflow.

You can try it out at 2" and upsize as necessary. If the fan is capable at 2, all good. Just know you are going to limit yourself.

Have a great one :green_heart:
